  1. Trying to get an idea on how much a 2019 GTS is going for. A friend of a friend called me up last week wanting to buy mine (Got it in 2020) He'd read there wasnt going to be any this year, and was looking. I'm not even sure I want to part with it...

Any of you tried the Wathen’s Barrel Proof? The mixed reviews have me intrigued...

4 years old, MSRP of $80, I sure hope it's good, but have my doubts

Just has an amazing mail call Saturday. My Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend (batch 24) and Bardstown Chateau de Laubade just arrived. I received these in a trade for a Weller Single Barrel (Plus $50 and shipping).  MSRP on the Magnus is $150-$200 and for the Bardstown is $150 or so (and it’s not even distributed in Texas).  For the $50 MSRP I paid for Weller SiB, I think I did pretty well here.

The Bardstown is 12 year MGP sourced juice, finished 18 months in armagnac barrels.

It's great that you enjoy those 2 bottles, I've seen the Weller Single barrel selling for about $700 on secondary. To each his own...

So is this sold AT the Longhorn Steakhouse?

Nope, pretty sure this is over stock from their barrels picked for their Restaurant Group.

My thought process on that is that with the high price point on Cigar Blend they probably don’t order too many at a time.

It may just be a distribution thing. I’ve seen Cigar Blend all over Florida for whatever reason.  I wish our stores here focused on procuring better options than most of the local Texas shit they shill on us.

Cigar Blend was all over TWs in Houston earlier this year

Well, that’s the point.  The idea of ‘barrel select” has gone from a place working with a distiller on a specific single barrel product (which still exists at some places) to producing “select” for stocking 491 Longhorn Steakhouses (or insert any other mass retailer here).  It’s no longer “select,” it’s just more large production bourbon.  Doesn’t mean it’s not good, it’s just not unique.

You dont think that someone in the LS Corp chain went through the process to select a "specific" product? Obviously they had to select several barrels (2 or more) to support their need, (at aprox. 170 bottles per barrel) but with their financial clout, they more than likely chose from 10 or more cherry barrels. TW did this a couple years ago with fine results, as have other larger companies.

I could care less if they called its Jane's Fuzzy Butt Plug on the label,  if it has that amazing juice in the bottle...

    B is out there.

Someone found it in DFW.  not sure where.

Yep, just heard from a friend in Oklahoma that it is there.

  8. Interesting enough, a friend wanted to trade me his A119 about a month ago, I passed because I believe I already have one buried in the liquor cabinet. Love me some ECBP

    No doubt

Really? Haven't run across, nor heard anything about this year's B and C batches of ECBP around Houston. Found the A pretty easy.

  10. A friend picked me up a bottle of Doc Swinson' s batch 6, 15 yr old cask strength, non chill filtered Kentucky bourbon from NASA liquor yesterday.  Reviews I've read are outstanding.

  11. Pulled an older Stagg jr. Batch 7 (130.%) from the back of the Liquor cabinet tonight and compared it to a recently acquired SJr Batch 13. It looks like either the fill levels are different,  or some of the older one has evaporated, maybe a quarter ounce.

Anyone experienced this before? Is it a bad fill or evaporation? I'll hang up now  and listen.

I’m up to 25 open bottles on the bar which is a lot for me. But not for long if this quarantine keeps up. It takes me a good couple minutes each evening to decide what I’m gonna have so as not to run out of any one thing.

I need to drink the stuff I don’t like and get shed of it.

Or start a couple of infinity bottles, mixing some of the not so good/average with the good/great might raise it to a new level.

Final verdict on Larceny Barrel Proof, it definitely runs hot, but it’s worth it at MSRP. Don’t pay a premium for it.

I don’t care for the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof comparisons. LBP is a wheater while ECBP is a traditional mash bill. ECBP is 4-6 years older and  hell of a lot smoother. A good batch of ECBP might be the best pour you have all year. LBP is never going to do that, but I think future releases will be better.

Good review Bill, Considering that both ECBP and LBP are both Heaven Hill products, and this is the very first tri annual release for LBP,  I'm willing to take a wait and see attitude about the company that has turned out Henry McKenna10, and EC12 and now ECBP. I think they just might know what they're doing. Now, If I can just find a bottle...

I don’t know if it’s my palate/mood this evening, but I’m reaching for Evan Williams SiB over Larceny Barrel Proof.

Just missed on 2 different Larceny BPs a week or so ago. I'm ready to offer up a trade and risk the Corona, anyone got an extra? Or point me In the righ direction... Houston area.

Well I broke my own bargain guidelines today, and reached for the Pikesville over Rittenhouse. Pikesville is so good, I think it's still under priced in the low $40 range.

Low 40s at the Big Box stores, $50 at the Mom and Pop

One would have to think that some of the rarer bourbons won’t be gobbled up by bars and restaurants and actually make it to liquor stores.  I can’t imagine they’ll be buying as much as they normally over the next few weeks, so maybe some of us will be lucky enough to land some W12 or Blanton’s. Trying to stay positive in the COVID-19 hysteria!

I call BS, the MFers will continue to buy em from their normal allocation and sit on them knowing full well that they will sell them in a month when the hysteria dies down. It's not like there's dozens of  extrac cases sitting out there to be had. "Hey dont send me any of the good stuff this quarter, okay joe?..."

Interesting, how is the 2018-03 Kentucky Chew batch? I have an opportunity to pick up a bottle. I've enjoyed many previous batches.
