UH taking the position that it’s H-town blue and was used in Houston in the 50’s before the AFL was in place. They are using the scheme and colors for all them sports teams not just football. And it’s a slight Pantone away from the oilers blue.

If UH can somehow get the civil trial in front of a jury of Houstonians, Amy Adams may get the death penalty.

  2. Yeah, I am not a fan of the color at all. I know some people love it, but I am firmly on the opposite end of the spectrum: Team Fender Pastel.

Also, Celery Man's picture smells like stale cigarette smoke.

  3. Also, are you flexible on color? This one is listed on Reverb as a demo at a brick and mortar store for $1279 and $50 shipping.

Usually if you reach out outside of Reverb, they may be able to do a little better on price.

I appreciate all the help and advice.

He has a PRS Silver Sky SE - that's the daily player.  It is played daily and by daily I mean at least 3 times a day.  He starts before school each morning.  He started 1 year ago and will not put the guitar down.  He's also a responsible kid (for 11).  He doesn't scratch or bang around on his stuff, keeps his room clean, basically the opposite of me when I was 11.  I'm comfortable buying him a $1-$3,000 guitar because he has proven he won't tear up his stuff.

Free tickets to Brad Paisley at the Houston Rodeo last Saturday made him a Telecaster fan.  It didn't help that BP played 10 different guitars during the show.  He made it appear as if musical success hinges on having a room full of gear.  Thanks, Brad.  Best part of the whole thing is, we don't even listen to much country music.  He likes ZZ Top and John Mayer.

There is a wealth of info out there and a lot of opinions - so far I like what I've heard here.

I'm kinda thinking about bumping up to one of these

Fender American Professional II Telecaster Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar Butterscotch Blonde | Guitar Center

It is rewarding when your child finds something they really like - I've dealt with my fair share of kid's sports bullshit and "I don't want to do my homework."  He's driving this and I'm happy to push some chips in to support him.

I have that guitar in black and love it. You can't go wrong with an American tele.

Is it the power band or the highest "gear" it will tolerate without slippage? The aim for mileage is usually lowest rpms that will keep the thing moving at the "selected" speed.  For an NA engine those two do not usually coincide and for a forced intake, the power bamd usually involves boost and that sure ain't no way to save gas. Not sure they attempt CVT with turbos.

Subaru WRX and the vehicles with XT engines are CVT and turbo.
Well, most of the WRX’s are manual transmission, but otherwise it’s a CVT.

Don’t take your kids to the Lego store unless you want to end up buying yourself a toy 932bb1c3922af9acfb62aec2d41a9442.jpg

Lego should card buyers and offer an alternate set of bricks for 21+ that say "Marlboro" for the back.

I'm partial to Hyundai for some reason, and I have lots of time on my hands here above the Arctic Circle this week, during spring break, -33 degrees in the morning, and I expanded my search just now and found a new 2024 Hyundai Tucson for 25k, $6500  under MSRP..huh?  Attraction of Tucson would be an 8 speed tranny instead of the CVT which is on the smaller sedans I've been looking at.  Elantra is the favorite, due to the 40+ gas mileage, but for instant equity of $6500 not including TTL and any dealer add-ons, I could see driving a Tucson.  Wife already drives a Kona, and younger son is buying the 2016 Accent this summer, under market value.

Anybody have experience with the maintenance on the CVTs?  I'm guessing the maintenance on the 8-speed is a lot easier and cheaper.

I have a Subaru Outback with a CVT. Maintenance has really been no different than any automatic transmission I’ve had in the past. Fluid was checked every 30,000 miles and replaced at 100,000. Cost to service the CVT seemed to be on par with automatic transmission expenses. I know Nissan and Audi had some 1st gen CVT reliability problems, but I think most other manufacturers are doing ok with them. I’m hoping to go 200,000 with this car.

Daughter is turning 16-- thinking about getting her an EV. Good idea? Bad idea? (e.g. range anxiety, responsibility with charging, etc.).

Looking at older Tesla 3's and other cheaper varieties (Kia, Mazda, etc.)

Anyone bought an EV for their kid and have any feedback?

Maybe consider collision repair costs as well. Not unusual for a teenager to have a bump or two along the way. I would discuss with your insurance company the cost differential of insuring a teen with a Model 3 vs a late model ICE.

You have to put it in perspective.  George W Bush’s legal team in 2000 was basically season 1 of Airwolf.

Trump’s legal team is season 4 of Airwolf.

We would have also accepted Blue Thunder the TV adaptation.

Buddy of mine bought an 82 Datsun to fix up for his kid.  Just got it back from paint - cheap paint/decals but good enough to look slick from 10' away.  All the black parts are rhinolined now as well.

That's a great truck. I considered something similar with my old 93 Toyota truck and my son. Then I started really looking at the thin A pillars, zero air bags, no crumple zones and how terrible the MT tires were in the rain. We got him a VW with pre-collision breaking and blind spot detection instead. At least it was a manual transmission and he will get to learn about VW reliability first hand.

Lots of people helped him out with money, rides for him or his family (he lived in Taylor), etc.  I just loaned him a junker Honda Accord.  Believe me, it was a group effort to try to keep him and his family afloat.  This is a legit community.

Fun fact:  the dude owned dozens of snakes.  His living room was like a reptile house.  Freaked me out.  I'm talking pythons, boas, probably some other dangerous snakes but I was already too busy backing out.  Snakes creep the hell out of me.
