  1. Went in house at a nonprofit in healthcare 8 months ago. Legal team is about 20 attorneys with varied expertise. Pay, benefits, and lack of billing make it all worth it. Better work-life balance as well. Nice to be the client.

  2. I would not count on us being ahead of OU even with a win unless it’s a blowout (and that’s unlikely). Depending on how the games shake out, I could see us moving up to 12-14, and OU falling to 10-12. They get the benefit of the doubt we seldom do (and haven’t yearned in years).

  3. I need some help with the best way to use credit cards to help with flights in summer 2023. Will be flying from DFW to Athens, and returning from Rome (family obligation cruise). 2 adults and 2 kids. Would ideally prefer business class. Only have about 90k American miles. Any suggested credit card strategies and carriers to partner with? Should only have 0-1 credit cards over last 24 months. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

  4. The booster discussed is officially only for Pfizer right now, correct? I haven’t seen any official directives on a monderna booster, but maybe I missed that.
I have seen moderna has studied a booster that is half the regular dose. So people getting moderna boosters now, are they getting the full third dose? Getting that booster without any official guidance/recommendations from any of the federal agencies?

  5. For the people who have done the study and had a positive COVID infection result, does it give you any antibody information resulting from that infection.  I know of an antivax type who had long haul COVID and whose "lung doctor" told her her prior infection probably would adequately protect her going forward.  Now I don't think any doctor told her any such thing, but if there were a way she could attach a number to that level of protection she claims, maybe it would at least cause her to adjust other habits and social distance a bit.  She's a nice person, but I'm not going to try to teach Egypt a lesson, as another friend of mine likes to say.  She was antivax long before COVID for dumb reasons.

Yes. It will give you results for vaccine antibodies and Covid antibodies. My SIL got Covid last October (she’s a nurse and as best we can tell, she got it from work). She then got the vaccine in late December. Her results showed both. The spike antibodies (from vaccine) were about 650 (Pfizer vaccine). Her Covid antibodies were 2.2 I think. But I don’t know that there is really good qualitative data on the level of protection those two types of antibodies provide, or how protection from one antibody compared to the other. I’ve seen references of being recovered from Covid and having vaccine provides higher protection, but not any specifics on that increased protection.
  6. Did mine yesterday around noon, just got results.  If you have not gotten the text (I have not), register an account at: http://www.cpllabs.com/sonicmyaccess  Results show up there first.
    Moderna
    Last vax date: 03/04/21
    805 on 08/26/2021

Just got the text with results. But when logging into the website for the details it says to allow 48 hours for final results to be uploaded, and 5 days from when the sample was drawn for Covid testing. Guess the CPL I went to is slow. Will post once I receive them.
  7. How long is it taking most people to get their antibody results from Texas Cares? I had mine drawn Tuesday morning and trying to decide if I wait for results or just get a booster this weekend. Second moderna dose was in late January.

  8. Allen is such an aggy place.

It sure feels that way. I live in Allen and have mostly enjoyed it. The new superintendent has handled all this poorly. And most people around here apparently don’t believe in COVID. Our elementary principal won’t wear a mask. Horrible leadership- knowing that the 450 kids that she is in charge of can’t get vaccinated and she can’t be bothered to even put on a mask. The district won’t mandate masks, but you can lead by example.
Just like this coach could have, but chose not to. I feel callous saying it, but I don’t have sympathy for someone who’s choices cause other people to get sick and/or die. This guy didn’t get to teach a class, but with coaching of the football team, likely contributed to the 26 (reported) cases at Allen High School.
  9. I don't have access to anything other than their ED

I have not seen a breakdown of that either. As f Friday (according to texas hospital association), there were 11,261 COVID hospitalizations in texas, with a total of 261 pediatric hospitalizations. They did not break down # of ICU patients for adults or children.
State organized staffing was supposed to start yesterday, which will hopefully provide some help in increasing capacity. But we are, at best, weeks away from seeing a decrease in hospitalizations. Daily/weekly deaths from COVID have been much lower that previous surges (thanks to vaccinations and younger people being hospitalized [larger percentage of unvaccinated dumbasses]. That may change as hospitals run out of capacity to treat patients.
  10. I've been saying for years, they need to take guns away from the street cops. Send them in pairs with OC spray and a taser, save the guns for the goon squad or SWAT team. They'll be a lot more respectful to the citizenry in a short amount of time.

I’ve said the same. Or at least have guns locked in trunk of vehicle for only a select number of cops, and require supervisor to remotely unlock them when given a compelling reason. And put the supervisor on the hook for the actions of the officer.
  11. Why are the section chiefs and captains not on salary? Would be interested to know which lifeguards are eligible for overtime.
I wonder if there is a union for LA lifeguards. It’s a topic for another day, but public employees should not be able to unionize. There are no negotiations with the people that are required to pay the benefits.

If we paid teachers overtime, I bet there would be after school tutoring out the wazoo (and also corrupt).

  12. Ah, newfangled construction technology!
Wonder how much it would increase the cost of a home if all the exterior walls up to the eaves were constructed like that instead of balloon frame?

I think most estimate it as about 5% cost of house, as opposed to closer to 2% for traditional framing. But you should get substantial saving on energy usage to offset much or all of those costs long term.

  13. that manifold system is only a few hundred bucks on supply house.  I know everyone is price sensitive, but I think production builders just don't want to do it and homeowners don't know it's out there.  it actually looks like less than $500 in additional material and labor to hook it up.

edit - you're right, she just said what you said.  you have to run every single line as a separate line instead of daisy-chains or loops.  she said though it's still a good thing to have.

I really wanted one When we built our house several years ago. Builder wanted to charge $8000 for it, which I assume was his I don’t wanna mess with this shit rate. Wish I would have done it now.
  14. I was able to get my shower heads going, as well as a toilet and cold water line on a sink. Still can’t get the hot water line to that sink running.

Team no drip outside faucets, and will leave them at least until Saturday or Sunday unless I spot a leak.

I also have a fire sprinkler system in the house. Not much I can do about it. I believe the pipes are steel, so hopefully they handle the pressure better than copper. We shall see...

Have intermittent power and regular water, so I can’t really complain.

  15. Yes

Follow up: when I do this should I turn off the gas water heaters as well? Would think so. Correct me if I am wrong, please.
Going to try to hold out until Thursday I think, and then do this. Will see what happens. Power has been on and off, so I am much more fortunate than most. Tried a heat gun and heater on one faucet on an outside wall for 40 minutes (until power kicked off). Didn’t make any headway. So I think cutting the water coming into house is the thing to do. May try to store a couple more gallons of drinking water (tubs already full for toilets) and cut off water Wednesday, but I am not sure it will make much difference to cut water now vs Thursday if it is below freezing until then.

Gas fireplace is keeping us comfy, so I can’t really complain. Whatever happens can be fixed. Everyone stay warm.
