  1. Washington's a great team, but their SOR at #1 is a complete red herring. It's based entirely on the premise that the PAC was solid competition this year... Traditionally, their OOC opponents would've been decently strong...

But it gets really ugly if you look into it further:

-Washington beat Mel Tucker's 4-8 Michigan State (congrats)

-Oregon beat 6-6 "dark horse" Texas Tech by 8 on a last-minute pick six (lol)

-"#14" Arizona lost to a Zach Arnett led 5-7 Mississippi State (lol)

-Cal lost at home to a 6-6 Auburn team who got mudholed by New Mexico State (lol)

-Arizona State lost to OSU at home by 12 when Gundy was still rotating QBs (lol)

-Utah beat 5-7 Florida at home by 13 and 3-9 Baylor due to a controversial PI no call

-Wazzu beat a 7-5 Wisconsin squad who was breaking in a new coach

-Colorado beat 5-7 TCU by 3 with healthy Shadeur / Hunter and before Deion had put anything on film

-USC lost by 28 and Stanford lost by 33 to 9-3 Notre Dame

We were walking and talking to this guy from Europe who was with Georgia fans he met at his hostel. They were all singing some kind of Georgia songs. Europe guy asks me why he hasn’t heard anybody singing Texas songs. I told him he will be hearing them after the game.

The Georgia fans beforehand were incredibly cocky and thinking it was going to be a cakewalk.

This. I have never interacted with a more over confident fanbase than Georgia in '18.

  3. Texas is extremely well-positioned -- couldn't ask for a more fortuitous set up... UW is solid and the best passing threat we'll face, but they'll be traveling ~2,500 miles to face what'll be an overwhelmingly pro-Texas crowd in the Superdome... The winner of Michigan / Bama would then have to face Texas 7 days after their semi in Pasadena in Houston (our backyard)...

With the 12 team playoff introducing more variables, this is likely the best shot we will have at a title...

  4. If anyone is interested in an OSU booster take, one of my relatives is a mid-tier OSU booster with connections in the OSU program.
He mostly confirmed what we're all seeing and thinking, but with a little more detail.
    1) He is pessimistic and not going to Arlington for the game.
    2) OSU has been very mistake prone and he thinks this will bite them in the ass.
    3) Ewers is going to carve them up.
    4) Gordon is a beast, but TX run D is filthy. Gordon is dinged up, but nothing serious. Thinks TX defense will slow Gordon down.
    5) Bowman is wildly bipolar in his play, which infects the whole team. OSU is good when Bowman is on and awful when he's off. Thinks Bowman's play is going to determine the game.

Gordon had 38 touches against BYU… And 30 touches against Houston… That isn’t a sustainable workload — especially against this TX defense… Bowman will probably have 30-40 pass attempts, so Gundy will need him to magically overcome the turnover bug overnight.
  5. Ha, you must not follow acc sports very closely. Not a single student or booster on that campus cares one bit about their football team. Maybe that’ll change now that coach k has retired, but I doubt football will every be a priority there.

(All this to say that you’re probably right about the first bit and probably not about the last bit, in my opinion)

Ha, you must not follow Duke sports closely… The entire campus rallied behind Elko and the football team (see UNC last year or Notre Dame this year). In the rare times when Duke football is winning, they have a small but avid fanbase. Duke’s AD fully understands that making football competitive is the #1 priority. Duke Bball is obviously huge, but football is the main revenue driver (and expense) in college athletics. And Duke doesn’t want to get left behind in the next round of re-alignment…

Even with shitty refs how in the absolute fuck did we only post 3 2nd half points against this shitstack?

Oklahoma didn’t have to gameplan for their first ~5 opponents. RRS was their Super Bowl (they made T-shirts remember).
  7. Florida as a program has like 200 wins less than Texas. No, they are not "almost identical."

Hooray for us, I guess. Florida has won 2 titles in the 2000s (‘06 and ‘08). Texas has won 1 and played for another (‘05 and ‘09). Both programs have churned through coaches since then… I know you’d like to believe we’re special, but in the modern era, UF has achieved a similar level of success…
