There's still a lot of room between 0 and $50 million. Even if the buyout ends up being closer to the zero number, like @immamac already stated, I foresee this easily getting into the 10 figure range just to make it go away.

I didn’t see his statement at first so apologies for beating the dead horse. My only thought is that the situation does give us better leverage than most coach firing situations, if we actually go that route.

  2. I haven’t seen anyone mention it, but Tech fired Leach for cause for doing nothing and hid behind sovereign immunity. That is still a horrible move on their part. However, Texas actually has cause and the same sovereign immunity. I don’t think it’s a given that this has to cost Texas a ton of money. This isn’t the same as firing Tom Herman for losing football games and being a douche. Texas would obviously prefer not to use sovereign immunity in a situation like this, to avoid having a reputation of not following its contracts, but this situation is different. At worst, they will have better bargaining power for a likely settlement imo. I doubt beard receives all of his contract the way other firings have.

    To the criminal defense lawyers:

Is there any advantage in not turning over the recording of the incident on the spot if you really thought it would exonerate you? Aren’t the cops eventually going to get it any way once you’ve told them it exists? An accused says he has a recording of the incident for which he is charged with crime is surely a basis for a judge to issue a search warrant, isn’t it?

If you have concerns about the cops listening to the recording, then you probably shouldn’t say you have one in the first place.

Apologies if this has already been covered.

Civil lawyer here, but I have done criminal defense in the past. You have to remember he wasn’t with his lawyer when asked for the tape. You can’t expect him to think like an attorney on the spot. I would never recommend for a client to give anything to the police without me hearing it first. In fact, I would recommend as a general practice not to say or give anything to the police without first speaking to an attorney. Him not giving the police the tape shouldn’t sway you as to his guilt or innocence. It’s just good practice.

This reads like Charlie Kelly wrote it in one of the “it’s always sunny” episodes he’s trying to be a lawyer. Just idiotic dribble with legalish words that a good lawyer would never use in that manner.

  5. I wouldn’t read much into that statement as it regards to when we leave. If we breach the contract when the contract is about to disappear on its own terms, it could lead to some headaches. I’m sure we will opt out if the conference saves itself, but the conference isn’t going to save itself.

I like the dumbass aggy admitting that he's already cancelled his donation to the school. Like it's... the school's fault? that Texas is joining the SEC.

I really only went through posts with a lot of upvotes. I love that 13 people gave rep.

  7. This isn’t a horrible hire at this particular position.

    1. He isn’t DC like he was at OU.
    2. He will only be coaching inside linebackers. That’s at most 2 players on the field at any given time.
    3. He’s been in the Saban coaching career rehabilitation facility for years.
    4. His 247 profile shows he’s not a bad recruiter.

Assuming LSU doesn't fuck it up again - and Arnett to LSU goes through - who is left at DC?

Muschamp is taking a gap year

Freemen left Cincy for ND after fucking around with LSU

Odom decided to stay at Arkansas

    Quinn stayed NFL

    Derek Mason went to Auburn

    Kevin Steele to Tenn

Jim Leonhard is a Wisconsin lifer who literally has badger blood.

    DJ Durkin killed a kid

    Chris Ash is still available.

Not to be a boom or bust guy he he makes the most sense on this list at this point and the $9.95 crowd has actually admitted they have no clue. Sark has fired Ash guys and Boom has the worst excuse of all the guys on that list save maybe Odom.
