Bobby said this morning on Coffee and Football that Guervil went to Florida for seven figures.
That's insane, but good for him.
I would imagine giving Guervil or any of these recruits that kind of money would blow up the budget for our current roster (i.e. pay comparable amounts to current players). I would guess probably cause it to double, which is absolutely unstable.
These poor football programs throwing around huge dollars because of the new rev share cap and their current roster is cheap will have a hard reckoning in a year or two.

Not sure if you're serious, but he's one of the top backs in the country, depending on which service you trust. He's a Miami lean and has been on their campus 9 times. According to On3, he's never visited Austin. It'd be awesome to get him, but he's in no way a "backup plan"

LB (3) ...
Xavier Griffin, LB, Gainesville (Ga.) High - or - Tyler Atkinson, LB, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star and 5-star
Note: Griffin announces June 29, Atkinson likely July 4That is interesting because Bobby did state over the weekend that Xavier would be more of an of Edge to start then transition to an OLB, whereas Atkinson would be more of an MLB. His comments alluded to they could potentially be in the same class. So for Gerry to put this out after the fact, assuming he and Bobby are trading notes and intel, there is something here that might be more than position numbers that would cause them not to be in the same class.

I mean I could be wrong, but wasn’t Gerry saying it was dim on Lockett and French playing together last year?
just saying anything can happen.
That was Lockett and Moore, and I think that had more to do with them getting along with each other

I'm okay losing out on a talented, but needs development, 4-star recruit in June because we can't guarantee starting time his freshman year. We've come a long way.

What position are we looking at for him, and do we know where he’s leaning? Haven’t heard his name in a while.

Besides K/P, a successful football team must recruit and fill a minimum number of spots at every position every year. The portal, injuries, draft, and development can change roster projections so quickly. Any successful team needs a reliable pipeline of talent at every position that can withstand this variability.
Coaches have ~3 years to evaluate and recruit enough quality players to bring in a minimum number of players at each position every year. There isn't a reason for a successful football team to say they can't find the right fit at a position. The players are there.

June OV recruiting season is not for the faint of heart.
On the other hand, happy feeding season for all the recruiting energy vampires.

A&M's Draft performance this year should be the canary in the coal mine for that program under Elko. Although their DL guys got drafted, the story with all of them was "they didn't have the performance that matched their expectations. They are getting drafted on potential." Defense is Elko's bread and butter, but he couldn't get that defense and the elite players to play at an elite level. It was just "meh." And no one can try the excuse of those weren't his players. Yeah they were. He recruited those guys, and he went to the portal to get the defense he wanted. The Year 1 Elko Experience is everything someone should expect out of Elko when it comes to development going forward. It's not going to be great by any means.
Let's compound the lack of development with the non-existent QB recruiting. They are spending money elsewhere, but not at QB. Lack of development and talent at the QB position is a scary combo. I guess they are hoping that they will get lucky in the portal? It hasn't gone that way yet.
They will win recruiting battles, but the lack of development across the board and the dearth of talent at QB will keep the 8-and-4 train chugging along.

A&M piggybacked their way into the Roseborough recruitment as "close enough to Austin for mom." Sounds like they may have outsmarted themselves in their game theory on what to pay him for the commitment. That is if they think in those methods; unlikely they do. Brauny definitely doesn't understand that, but it's easy to sell subs on the tag line of whooping the gersh dern tsips for a recruit.

Really cool with the staff taking a hard pass on this one. As it stands, retention is tough as shit in this landscape. Imagine having to re-recruit this guy every year until 2029-2030. Kids are notoriously mercurial and selfish - some kids (and their uncles) more than others. Too much squeeze for TBD juice.
Who said that Texas is taking a hard pass?

Zion Robinson looks like one of those "remember when this guy was one of the top recruits when class rankings first started? Look at how far he fell" cases. 247 loves him at #10 in state, On3 has him at #79 in state. Not mentioned at all as a target for Texas. Michigan and Miami are the top landing spots.

Some pretty big news on the OTF recruiting video today. Gerry and CJ said Samari Matthews has replaced his Clemson OV with I believe Miami and they've always thought it was a Texas/Clemson battle.
I prefer go head to head with Clemson instead of Miami.

I'm guessing winning the natty is the only thing that that will get these losers to admit we've done something in the past 20 years. But, we all know if they had made the playoff a single time we'd hear about it until the heat death of the universe.
Today I learned about the heat death of the universe scenario

I can think of a lot of words to describe recruiting right now - satisfying, exciting, fun, wonderful, enjoyable - the list goes on.
Boring, however, is not among them.Anyone describing recruiting as boring right now is an absolute masochist.
They miss the pain and torture of pining for a 5 star (or a reasonable 4 star) that we had no realistic shot at landing.
Malik-mas was fun and all as an example of what landing a highly recruit felt like during the Mack, Strong, and Herman days. But, I much rather land 5 star recruits like it's a regular everyday thing and experience the schadenfreude watching recruiting for OU, A&M, and the old vanguard of the SEC.

From @statsman
This is the good stuff.
When fans write this "wish-into-existence" content, you know that fanbase hasn't fully accepted the reality that is in front of them.
If there was such a thing as a potential misery scale (calculated as: fan expectation - non-fan rational expectation) for the upcoming football season, I think OU has to be at the top.
I can't wait to see this play out in 2025.
