  1. Now that the portal is closed, and it seems that the roster is pretty much set for 2024 save a potential grad transfer portal addition, here's how I am rating the position groups:

    Ratings:

    1. Liability/Unknown
    2. Some Holes / Struggle Often
    3. Average / Serviceable (UDFA talent)
    4. Good (Draftable Talent)
    5. Great/Elite (1-3 Round Draft Talent)

Ratings are two numbers: (floor / potential)

    Offense

QB: (4/5) - Quinn hopefully performs as a RD 1 QB; Arch Manning is ready

RB: (4/5) - Deep and talented RB room; will CJ Baxter or Jaydon Blue be one of best RBs by year-end?

WR: (4/5) - Plenty of talent and depth, just need to find the right mix

TE: (3.5/4) - Helm and Niblack are solid TE weapons (although for different roles)

OL: (4/5) - A lot of talent and depth. Williams is talented, but replacing a RT who got drafted won't be without some issues. How long will Conner start?

    Defense

DE (4/5) - Lots of talent and depth. Getting pressure from the edge should not be an issue this season

DT (3/4.5) - The Arizona transfers help set a solid floor; Collins is the real upside for this unit

LB (3.5/4.5) - Hill is special, Gbenda has experience, and Lefau and Gullete have talent

CB (3/4.5) - Muhammad is a stud, but a lot depends on the development of the true FR and what Cole from the portal can do at the P4 level

NB (3.5/4.5) - Barron and Guilbeau are solid NB options

S (3.5/4.5) - Please start Mukuba next to Williams. Freshman are talented, but unproven

    Special Teams

    K: (3/4) - Auburn is a known commodity

    P: (1/3) - A lot depends on Kern or a portal addition

Should I be angry or happy about the hire?

In the near term, I am evaluating this hire by:

    - hold on to Brandon Brown. This is a test if he can keep a recruit that appears to have only committed because of Bo Davis.

    - development of Alfred Collins. This guy has been an enigma. If Baker can unlock his potential (I am thinking getting on an All SEC list type year), then this guy might be a really good hire.

  3. Performance of "Up and Coming Coaches" during Sark's tenure at Texas:

    • Blake Gideon - Blessed as Muschamp's choice, has one more year to prove himself
    • Brennan Marion - Good choice, bad results
    • Tashard Choice - Great choice, great result
    • Chris Jackson - "Who is this guy" grade for choice, good results so far
    • AJ Milwee - What would he be without Sark?

Performance of "Established Coaches" during Sark's tenure at Texas:

    • Andre Coleman - Bad choice to retain, bad results
    • Kyle Flood - Great choice; amazing results
    • Jeff Banks - Great choice, great results
    • Jeff Choate - Good choice, good results
    • Pete Kwiatkowski - good choice, good results (finally)
    • Terry Joseph - "Meh" choice, "meh" results
    • Bo Davis - Great choice, great results (depth chart is underwhelming though)

I’m surprised Texas took 3 receivers instead of 2. There’s a fair amount of young WR talent on the roster. I wonder whether they think one or two of those guys aren’t going to pan out.

I see it as Sark not leaving anything to chance or "development hope" for next year, especially at WR.

Texas has one of the best QBs, O Lines, and RB depth of any team in the country next year. Don't ruin this opportunity with unknowns at wide receiver.

    Now fix DT.

Yeah we don't need the 9.95er analysis necessarily but who they are, what they've done and why it's a good thing would be EXTREMELY valuable for those threads vs their recruitment tweet and a bunch of titty gifs.

Along these lines... I think something like Airtable, Google Sheets, or another collaboration tool could be useful as a master tracker for annual recruiting classes to help highlight who the key Texas targets are and who the better players are. Much of this information is shared in the recruiting threads, but it would be nice to have this synced centrally.

A recruiting class table (ex: 2025 Recruits) would have columns of information like this:

    • Player Name
    • Position
    • Composite Rank
    • Texas Priority (High, Med, Low)
    • Likely Leader (Texas, other school)
    • Bobby B update notes
    • Gerry H update notes
    • IT update notes
    • 247 update notes
    • TFB update notes
    • Surly take / thoughts (e.g. "might not have a committable offer because Player X committed")

Permissions could be granted to a handful of recruiting addicting degenerates here to update and post info as available.

Starting to wonder if The Elk is gonna make it to 3 years.  Pretty much everything since his press conference has been a mess.

If they fire him after 3 years, they will be paying (assuming annual payouts):

    - Elko $5.6m per year (not accounting for amount offset for contract with new school)

    - Jimbo $7.2m per year

    Not to coach at A&M.

    I'm ready for it.

Look out for that bullet train.

    Gravity.

Aggies don't realize the real force of nature within their football program, athletics, and school that limits their upside.

No matter what they do, they will not be able to defy this gravity of being an 8-4 program.

That just may be the stupidest thing I have ever seen posted online, which is saying a lot in this universe where aggy exists.

The guy just learned how to do division a few days ago. Now, he is using it with all the numbers he can find. Let him have his fun, and wait for the wonderful things he will do in 16 years when he starts to learn algebra.
