  1. It feels like we are somehow upgrading every time a good assistant leaves.
    Dratyon to Choice.
    Choate to Nansen.
Marion to Jackson is a bit more questionable but I really like what Jackson has done so far.
I will say, this makes me want to see a DB coaching change even more because it's pretty clear Sark can make good assistant hires.

I don’t think Marion was a good fit here. Not saying he is a bad coach, just a weird fit.

  2. Trevor Gerland punted at Texas from ‘06-‘09. Went to my kids high school, was a 4.4 guy, all state in Football and track, finished second to Jamaal Charles at the 5A State Championship in the 110 m hurdles. Fastest punter I ever saw.
    It’s nice having multifaceted players.

Didn’t Nick Rose have the 40 record at his hs?
  3. There is no way to make a perfect track conversion, but here's the way I break this stuff down.
Receivers with this kids' build typically improve on their 40 times around 0.2 seconds per year in high school. But Butler only has two times posted. The time of year also factors into this. Athletes run better times in the summer. Anyway, he improved by 0.3 seconds from his sophomore to junior year. If we conservatively give him a 0.2-second improvement in his senior season, that puts him at 10.9 100 meters.
    A 10.9 converts to a 4.54 forty-yard dash. It's not a perfect conversion, but it's worth noting.
    He posted a 7.07 60-meter time. That converts to a 4.43 forty-yard dash.
If you watch his tape, look at his frame, and take into account that the kid isn't a full-time track star, it's easy to see he could improve his speed in college. It's easy to speculate he's faster than his limited track times.
He shows excellent balance and field vision on film.
Many on here thought Deandre Moore was slow, but I remember looking into that last year. His 100-meter conversion put him at 4.55 in the forty with a running back frame. That is on the high end of what I would call an acceptable time, especially for a physical slot.
In the Herman and Strong tenure, we recruited "4-star" receivers who couldn't break 4.7 in the forty. That's a very big problem, especially if they don't have size. These recruiting services have no idea what they're doing.

247 has a reported 200 at 21.93 which would convert to a 10.88 100, so your 10.9 estimate is spot on.

  4. Butler only ran in one meet. I think it's unlikely he took track seriously.
For reference here are some other guys' PRs: Matthew Golden 11.25, Xavier Worthy 10.55, Evan Stewart 10.58, Ryan Wingo 10.67, London Humphreys 10.66. Even the guys with faster times have some runs in the 11s early in the season.

247 has Golden as a 10.93. And I believe Worthy ran his 10.55 as a SO.
  5. Well that sucked.
Let's win out and get our revenge in Arlington.
Six winnable games in front of us. Forget this and get to work.

We’ll lose some stupid bullshit game that should be an easy w. Sark will fuck it up somehow.
