Why are y'all arguing about made up bullshit in the first place?

humblebrag re: atheism.  kinda like a crossfitter or vegan…so here’s your attention

Sure. Economic mobility has decreased. The ladders of opportunity have been kicked over. For the lower middle and middle classes the value creation of the “American Dream” in the form of education, home equity, career advancement has been systematically repriced to carve away any real return on their investment and even things like a vacation or just a nice evening out now require financing and debt. For most people in the middle, our economy is just the “company store” to which they owe their soul.

Of course, that’s not limited to Trump’s base and their kids. But to the very limited extent that DEI efforts and the inflow of talented and hardworking immigrants represent “cheat codes,” that represents for Trump’s base unfair competition in a system that is already rigged against them.

Of course MAGAism doesn’t offer any real solution to them other than the validation of their misdirected resentment in return for their continued indenture. That’s why I posted the Trotsky essay about the rise of national socialism- for me it ties together the support for brutality against the immigrant labor we need with the sadly now literally suicidal behavior of people in Kerr County refusing flood warning system upgrades.
The parallels here are very striking.

Spot on and exactly my thoughts on the matter and damn near posted the same, only i would’ve been far less articulate and digestible.

Don’t know much about Roman Catholic eschatology but when I was in medical school I had a patient who told me when I was taking her medical history that she had “fireball tumors in my Eucharist”

    did she have acute angina?

Well, alright. I will concede and seek further information for my own edification.

Episcopal doctrine has a very weak, anemic official statement on the Eucharist, something along the lines of the hosts being “spiritually infused” if I recall 30 years back correctly.  Essentially it leaves it up to the believer as to what happens during Eucharist.

for consubstantiation, look at the official position of historical Lutheranism.

please don’t ask me to explain it.  I’m old and have self-inflicted dain bramage.

Not Catholic, but attended a Jesuit high school, and was raised Episcopalian. Perhaps this explains my understanding of this situation. Nevertheless, my belief is common enough that AI offered the following to a question about transubstantiation and contransubstantiation:

fucking hell now we’ve got Hal9000 bloviating on systematics.

AI is wrong on this, cher ami.

1.2 million acres today (plus weakened protections of 58 million additional acres with the rescinded roadless rule), NWRs, NFs and NPs tomorrow.

I think anyone who lives in Texas and gives the tiniest shit about the outdoors would agree that more federal lands is preferable to our situation, where over 96% of the land is privately held.

you’re not wrong re: the sentiment, but the vast majority of land in Texas is privately owned, with the second biggest chunk being state owned.

only 1.9% of the land in Texas is federally owned.  which means this is meh issue for nearly all Texans.  only a minuscule number are even going to know about this, and even then it’ll mostly be a combination of hikers, campers, Sierra Club folks and hunters who lottery hunt out west.

I’m 3 of the 4, so i personally hope Mike Lee gets a red hot fire poker shoved up his ass by some pissed of gang of campers.

How long you been sitting on this gif?

much to my amazing, lovely wife’s chagrin, i possess supreme search skills as i simultaneously cackle with glee and gaze across a peaceful valley from the porch of a fabulous adobe perched on the side of a mountain whilst on vacation, breaking the silence that envelopes both she and i.

    “Kyrie, goddammit, really?  now?”

”my love, shaggy exist for this very reason and moment.  now fetch me the finest meats and cheeses from across the land.”

”go hate fuck your own face.”

    ahhhh…

  8. political expression is covered by the 1st amendment and enforceable under §1983 (for example, an employer cannot fire or discipline an employee for exercising their right to vote in a particular manner or toward a particular party).  removing internal guidelines won't change well settled law in this regard.

Some people just suck at marching. However, one would think for a big event like this they wouldn't pick those people to be marching.

some people in fact do suck at it.  but watch the video at the link, that’s an entire company who appears to suck at marching…and there’s zero possibility that an entire unit simultaneously sucks at marching.

that was by design…a silent but very obvious protest.  the question is who are what they’re protesting.  was it that they had to be there, was it Trump, was it Hegseth?

one of my offices is in Harker Heights, and about 1/3 of our clients in that office are associated in some capacity with the Army, be it active, retired, guard or reserve.  i’ve asked a few of our clients in leadership positions how the transition is going and unprompted you instantly get some form of “man, fuck SecDef deep in his goat ass.”

    @scottsins can verify…

so my money is that’s directed towards and meant to embarrass Hegseth
