    Which recruit is this about?

I'd guess McKinley based on the NIL and DL + Texas talk. It's also been reported that the mom is in love with UT so that would also line up with it being McKinley. Can't think of any other Texas vs OU recruiting battles remaining besides that one

E: I'm an idiot and didn't check the thread I was in. Might be Stone then, but I'd still guess McKinley

  2. Weren't we laughing at A&M thinking they'd get everyone in the portal and having to pay a ton of $ to retain the little talent they have?

Though we're not in a horrendous shape going forward like they are, it seems we were premature in confidently declaring we'd feast with the portal.

Hopefully this wave of post-bowl transfers with good players materializes. Think counting on the roster as is is a pretty blatantly stupid decision

Overall I agree about the selectiveness. Like the old saying goes, don't let perfect be the enemy of good

  3. Man, I'm really hoping this mythical safety that the staff is waiting for materializes and we grab them. Thompson developed over the year, but I don't think he's looking to be an All American and we still have to replace Cook

Or are they just planning on shuffling the DBs? Have Barron at NB still but move Watts to safety. I know I've read something of the sort (but it could have been Ian fucking Boyd for all I know) about moves, and OSU fans did say he played better at safety for them. Then again I thought our pitch to him was that he could play CB, so dunno how feasible that is. Can't remember if it was something seriously being considered or more 995 bullshitting

As long as we're not relying entirely on unproven depth/young starters across the secondary we'll be fine. Just less margin of error imo since the secondary doesn't seem to be as well coached as the front 7 (wild fucking sentence I never thought I'd type before the season)

Im not sure i buy this. We already have this guy on our roster in Neyor. A big bodied downfield target coming off an injury.

Main difference is AD Mitchell is coming back from a high ankle sprain that didn't require surgery I believe. Neyor is coming back from an ACL tear. The recovery process is shorter and better than it was even 10 years ago, but not every guy comes back at the same speed. Counting Neyor towards the purpose of "Is our WR room good enough" is a bad idea imo

  5. Jesus, even Tarp seems to be distancing himself from the (continuing) implosion

"That's what they think" "they feel" etc.

Almost a "Man even I can't buy this bullshit anymore, but I still have to put out something for these dipshits who pay me..." type beat

Though the drug testing thing doesn't really surprise me. I'd figure most teams would do that - no reason to test really. Kinda like pro leagues that made it super obvious when they were drug testing - they don't want you failing the test either

Interesting as I don't think I've heard or read any of the UT 9.95ers mention AD Mitchell. Maybe becuz he isn't in the Portal yet?

@Surlian Do you have a link to a UGA forum thread where they were discussing this?

Unfortunately I don't, it was on a general college football discussion thread. Think it was in a topic about them getting the Mizzou WR (Levett? Idr the spelling) and some Jawja fans mentioned it. I'll try to find it

And yeah, I forgot to mention he's not actually in the portal yet. Sounds like he'd be a guy we tampered (but not by the actual definition of the rule) with. He'd fit the big WR mold we're missing so I'm here for it lol

  7. Some Georgia fans mentioned they were hearing we were targeting AD Mitchell as a potential portal guy. He's been hurt most of this year and he doesn't exactly have stats, but they seemed to really want to keep him and were upset at the news, so who knows. Does have the big body frame we're missing at the WR position, but I'm guessing we're waiting for a bigger name to come up. Hadn't seen him mentioned here, but maybe he was awhile back and I just didn't see

Who was that DL out of Florida that was interested because w got Mitchell? I want to say his name was Jordan Davis but I'm not sure anymore. It's not coming up on 247.

Jordan Hall? Says he's committing tomorrow. Don't see it being him but he's the only DLine from Florida besides Damon Wilson I can remember us pursuing really

    Guessing it's Moore/Scott

Does it seem like a lot of higher rated portal players are immediately rumored to visit USC? Are they tampering more or differently than everyone else?

I think they're definitely a bit more blatant about it, and often the dudes they do tamper with are big names so it gets more attention (Caleb Williams, Addison, attempting w/ Worthy)

Can't really comment on the amount of tampering though. Don't really pay much attention since everyone is doing it

I can’t imagine why they’d want a single defensive player from the big 12. As we all know, the conference is terrible and also doesn’t play defense.

I thought the same thing when I saw one of the screenshots where they said they'd be fine with 3* LBs because "Baylor, TCU, and KSU" do well with them. Guess the Big 12 ain't so bad all of a sudden!

I'd be surprised if they grabbed both + Grimes tbh. Ideally they get Grimes and not  Muhammad. Can't see them pulling 3+ good starters (Grimes isn't one obv) from the portal with the absolute clusterfuck their entire program is (well, more than usual)

  11. So they have 3 candidates who'd take the job now? Then either

    1) They're dogshit OCs and even Jimbo's blind ass knows it, and they're hoping someone else will jump in the search that's better

    Or, more likely

    2) Looch is totally full of shit

We all know coaches aren’t allowed to publicly talk about or mention recruits until they sign their LOI. So is Marion doing this a loophole OR a potential NCAA violation?

I'm guessing pics are fine, because he's not saying anything? Seems like it'd be a dumb loophole but it is the NCAA. Or it'll be one of the "minor infractions" schools report to the NCAA to keep them from being a pain in the ass

Mostly I know they can't mention their name and I think they can't retweet them? Idk, but this is the first time I've seen one of our coaches post a pic of a recruit that I can recall

Who the fuck said 90% transfer?  Take 2 WR every year. That’s 8 guys you recruited to campus. Add 1 or 2 In the portal every year as needed. That’s 8-10 WR in your room every year based upon how many guys you process out. Basically that’s a perfectly healthy number. If you are taking 4 freshmen every year you are doing a shitty job of ID or Development as well as running off a ton of guys every year. Which, I guess is fine, but I’d just as soon only take really legit dudes and fill in as needed in the portal, when you are talking about literally the easiest position to fill (maybe outside of QB) if you are a blue blood program.

I mean I'm not calling for 5+, but a good 3 would be nice, which if we keep Niblett + grab Moore we'll be in great position for

And the 90% is just the impression I get from reading a lot of this (not just you of course, my b for it coming across that way) - any time anything comes up w/ WR recruiting and/or keeping Worthy there's tons of people saying "NBD just grab from the portal," and when that seems to be said about every WR related thing it starts to feel like 90% lol

I have no doubts about they're being good WRs in the portal, my concern is about great ones. Neyor, Arizona WR (can't remember the name rn), etc. all had good seasons (or were expected to), but the only really great WR I remember is Addison.

I'm in agreement about only taking dudes - but Niblett is one of them. My main point is I don't like counting on the portal to keep a position group good/great, which if we pull in 2 WRs, only one of who is elite imo, is what we'll be doing it feels like

Once again tho we're gonna keep Niblett and add Moore and I'll be rightfully quoted as being a pussy lol

  14. Yeah, all this "just grab a WR from the portal! They're everywhere" take is wild to me. Lose a HS recruit? Portal! Lose your #1 WR to the portal? Replace him with a guy just as good! Wonder why we even recruit WRs at all until December, all you have to do is hit the portal. And assuming Neyor was going to be good is odd - I obviously think he would have been this season, but acting like we killed it in WR portal recruiting last year is jumping the gun. Plus there's a good chance he's still finishing up his recovery and getting used to explosiveness again during fall camp

Expecting us to build our WR room with 90% transfers is a really good way to fuck things up. The sky isn't falling or anything (don't really care if Spencer flips), but we really do need to keep Niblett. It's two different WR coaches now that our WR recruiting has been questionable at times - although Marion >>>>>>>>>>>>> Coleman obviously

Getting Moore will help a lot and if we keep Niblett all this will sound satya-ish, but oh well

  15. So we're not expected to have our long-term solution at punter until... year 4? That's definitely different. Obviously prefer it being the punter over the QB, but goddamn. Getting a "slight upgrade" over a pretty shitty punter is lame. Like that blurb reads "Yeah he sucks, but he's experienced at it!" Dickson come back bby

My dark horse candidate they aggy will hire is Dan Enos. Doesn't give a fuck about loyalty,  has SECSECSEC experience,  and had some moderately successful seasons as OC. The fact that he ran away from Saban the way he did wins points from Jimbo.

I'd absolutely love that. Arkansas fans were happy to see him gone and fucking Manny Diaz at Miami knew he was shit enough that he got canned after one year at the job
