I was thinking about this today, sitting in a traditional Greek restaurant. They had Fox news on their one TV. I recalled the hotel also had Fox. Then, I try to remember a public place with the news on that wasn't playing Fox.

I'm not saying you need to pick up your game in terms of restaurants and hotels but have you recently been compelled to go into low company?

Same for a lot of works.  Even re-reading Cormac McCarthy, looks way different now in my twilight years, than it did in my late 20s....

    Good old man books:

The Way of All Flesh - Samuel Butler (not sure why this is one of my favorite books - just very old school style story, but the way he looks back on his life was very affecting)

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter - Cormac McCarthy (no way she was 23 - pure southern gothic, lots of sad wisdom)

Train Dreams - Denis Johnson (this was frighteningly depressing - novella)

  3. Finally saw it.  Underwhelmed on the whole.  Loved the family dynamic.  Ended with about 3/4 of the story I wanted to see still left.

I guess I get the irony of the stupidity of the white literary types as part of the theme of the movie but it could have been lots funnier/interesting if they had been given just a bit of intelligence.

  4. Well what's your issue then?  Is it because he's unknown or he's running the wrong kind of campaign.  I mean, I'd see some advantages to him being an actor or a rock star with instant name recognition, but the Dems don't have the balls to do that.

I just don't see any advantage in him pretending he's a firebrand progressive, because he isn't, and that's not going to be a big advantage over him just being himself.

That strategy isn’t going to work statewide.

I think there is a decent argument that no strategy for any Dem is going to work statewide but a low key one for a black athlete is better than most.

He's also pandering to the right by acting "tough" on immigration. News flash to the incompetent Texas Dems and their overpaid consultants: any voter who wants "tough" immigration policy is just going to vote for Ted Cruz. The voters you are pretending to court do not exist.

Completely untrue.  Unless you are just assuming that the only "tough"policy is a Trump policy.

Colin's doing a straight up "moderate suburban" strategy that won him his seat and has basically been very successful throughout the US. I think Gaza has really made things difficult but Biden would be a lot stronger if he had slow played changes in immigration policy and really focused on a message of welcoming immigrants while looking tough on illegal entry.

The "you didn't support our last minute efforts do try to fix the border" schtick, by itself, isn't going to work.

  7. Gerrymandered Beth Van Duyne (TX24 - Lake Highlands to fucking Ft. Worth), Christian ho and hypocrite, coveting her neighbors husband.  Which arguably might not be a sin if you're a strict bible reader.

I think all it will take is a good cry at her local non-dom church to get her back in good graces with the Southlake types.

Sam's got no chance but I threw him a double sawbuck because I like tilting at windmills.

I am at the point where I hope that EVERY single person that continues to vote GOP has something horrific happen to them or a loved one due to lack of reproductive care so they know the pain and suffering they are putting on others due to their ignorance, misogyny, selfishness, or hatefulness.  I have tried to stay above this, but fuck it.  And fuck you too.

Although, looking at it another way, this requires that these folks be sexually active.

I'd prefer that they stop procreating.

In all honesty, I do sympathize with this, but I wouldn't wish the additional heartbreak on anyone.  When you add in the issue of persons who are economically disadvantaged getting the quadruple bad news of 1) a genetic/reproductive issue PLUS 2) your doctors not being able to counsel you on your full alternatives for care PLUS 3) not being able to get local care and having to travel PLUS 4) not being able to afford that travel can care, it's just unspeakably cruel.

I just had a stent put in. What would it have been like if my doctor had said "Yes, you have a clogged artery, but we don't do heart surgery here, I can't really tell you the alternatives, but I can refer you to a hospice.  Best wishes." And if I wanted a stent I would have to debate driving or flying to Colorado, with concerns that there might be law enforcement or MAGA types trying to stop me from flying or driving and then not having insurance to cover the cost of the care or fear that I can't disclose the care to the insurance company and little extra money for travel?

(When I was in college I was a young republican type and I actually wrote an op-ed for the school paper that was pro-life.  I had a fucking deadline and I was a thoughtless little sexist wannabe Dartmouth Review type prick back then and it's a pretty profound regret, even though nobody read it and certainly doesn't remember it.)

Lawyers, explain why "Well yeah, he broke the law" isn't a good answer here.

I would probably prefer that my client answer a different question:  "I think he should be convicted becasse what he did was wrong."

  10. So refreshing to know that when Trump wins this case, in addition to the following truisms, the GOP is going to lock in the idea that Dems, and not the GOP,  weaponizes law enforcement:

    GOP - more fiscally responsible.

GOP - more responsible on national defense.

    GOP - backs the blue.

  11. Can anyone imagine what it would be like for wives or daughters to have a crisis pregnancy, and to know that a) the medical community is constrained by a code of silence in terms of medical advice, and b) at BEST, difficult decisions might require an emotionally devastated wife or daughter to have to travel hundreds or thousand of miles to get healthcare.

I don't think men can fathom this kind of situation.

What kind of man would allow that shit to possibly affect their loved ones?  Let alone fellow citizens who may not have the economic ability to get beyond the emotional devastation?

I'm not a one issue voter but I certainly have a minimum requirement.

Not sure what Trumpco will come up with, if anything, but it's kinda like we've only heard half of the story.

I mean,  they've telegraphed their side so much that we all know the other half.

  13. My whole attitude towards Michael Cohen's testimony next week.  I don't want him just saying what I want to hear, but if it's the truth I'm fine with it.
