Why is this a new thread? What is new here that didn't belong in the Official Sark Thread of Dominance?

Somewhere between Texags' propensity to start a new thread for every stray thought and this board's obsession with ultimately reducing all discussion about all things to a single unified meta thread is a happy medium. And it's not a fine line, there's a huge swath of territory there.

I'm personally tired of wading through 100+ page threads.

Don't schools still dress players in the 'retired' jerseys?

Not at Texas. But they also established objective criteria for it to limit it to a very few numbers: you have to win a national player of the year award. So we probably won't have to worry about Brady Sarkisian having his number retired.

Austin sports radio guys were saying this morning that Buzz hates Trev Alberts, as did Schloss.  Further flavor:  I didn't realize A&M couldn't land Skip Johnson to replace Schloss because of that very reason, too.  Alberts may turn out to be the most disastrous hire in A&M history, and that INCLUDES Jimbo.

I know nothing about Alberts’ personality outside of his stint on ESPN 20 years ago, but based on that alone-I can see it.

Chas McCormick will be the key to this season. If 2023 Chas shows up, this team wins the division. If 2024 Chas shows up, this isn’t a playoff team.

They don't even need the 2023 version. 21-22 would suffice (which should be a reason for more optimism, last year was much more of an outlier for him than 23 was).

    What is the debate?

From what I understand they are still active in some areas but not enforceable. Leon Valley in SATX still uses them, Balcones Heights does too but the mailed citations are as legit as a middle school hall monitor write up.

Yeah. I received a letter either last year or maybe it was in 23 for allegedly failing to come to a complete stop making a right turn in Humble. I just ignored it because it was unenforceable. But I do wonder how many people still paid those after they no longer had to?

I think that topically oriented threads are superior to the meta threads like Trump's America that just end up with a bunch of drive by "discussion" around the topic of the day. Allows those so inclined to dig into specific topics. If the topic is not of interest to you to discuss, you don't have to post in the thread. Pretty simple discussion board stuff.

There's a happy medium somewhere between Texags and the trend this board has been on toward a single, all-encompassing thread.

I'm fairly certain we will never see Altuve playing a position in the OF.

Never is a long time. I’d say regardless of Bregman, it’s not unlikely for him to play a good bit of LF before his career is done. His defense is only going to get worse, and that’s the easiest place to hide him (other than DH, but there’s already a guy there in basically the same boat).

Or keep them at there positions and trade Paredes for a good outfielder.

The problem with that is that Paredes projects to have more value playing his home games in Houston than anywhere else in the league. I don't think the Astros can possibly win that trade.

I'm warming to the idea of Altuve in LF, as crazy as it seems on the surface. It does not make the outfield any worse defensively, but sliding Paredes to 2nd and putting Bregman back at 3rd significantly improves the infield defense. And when your two best pitchers are known for groundballs, maybe that's more important at this point.

Yes to the first part, no to the 2nd.  His elite talent is accuracy on screen throw placement and the intermediate throw up to 25-30 yards.  He's never been a long ball guy and he doesn't have a Favre arm to loft it 65 yards in the air.  Even back to HS the long bombs he connected on were largely jump balls.

The long ball isn’t the primary measure of arm strength. Those deep outs from the opposite hash that he’s demonstrated are throws most guys are simply incapable of making.

  10. Their current AD has been there since 2012 and seems to have done a solid job. And CDC was here for years before Hartzell, not sure why there would be any expectation that they’re somehow linked together.

Well then since your incite and knowledge is so complete, and you've provided all the details we need to know I'm sure you won't feel the need to add anymore input to the thread discussion.

On behalf of all Surly, thanks for enlightening us all. We appreciate you for decreasing our regards. You're a saint and a genius.

Bobby and Gerry this morning seemed to think it's been legal for five years. I'd love to hear a rules expert's take because we got zero analysis from Tessitore (didn't watch him live, but I did catch the replay last night and of course it was 100% glaze session and 0% scrutiny)

They’re wrong. The rule changes there have permitted pushing since, I think, 2013, and about a decade longer in the NFL, but what occurred on that play is illegal at every level of football. It’s in black and white in the current NCAA rule book.

Now whether it ever gets called or not is another matter. And if that one didn’t, it never will be again, so they might as well just change the rule.

Not a great angle in that clip. Review team probably would say it's not indisputable that the teammate was trying to "assist in forward progress" because their momentum was carrying them in that direction, and whatever was going on with their arms was incidental to them trying to break their own falls. I need to see it again, because there were some angles where it looked pretty questionable.

Lol. The rule forbids grasping, pulling, or lifting. That German suplex he pulled involved all 3. It’s about as indisputable as possible.
