Fuck Will. Calling off  and missing the damn ball.

How about F You, you athlete wannabe.  Young players make mistakes. Will has done pretty well for us defensively in OF this year.  One big mistake this year through over 40 games and you do an F You post.

    Pathetic.  Get a life.

Because he was completely ineffective with a conventional release point.

Really?  He had a 3.09 ERA and 1.05 WHIP last year, which is not something that occurs with a "completely ineffective" pitcher.

Remember when he came in and gave up the bomb to lose the LSU game in 2023?

Remember several weeks ago when Volantis came in and gave up a 9th inning tying HR to Kentucky and we ended up losing the game in extra innings?  Every college and MLB pitcher in history has "remember when" moments.

    Maybe you need another drink.

I hate his new arm slot.  He drags his arm through the rotation and it looks lazy as shit and ineffective.

Im pretty sure that Weiner worked with him on that and believes its overall more effective.  But what the hell does Weiner, who is wanted by basically every college and MLB team, know about it versus your vast expertise.

Can Kimble DH and we put someone who has always played First Base at 1B, please?

Picking bounced throws is part of the 1B skillset. If Kimble can't do that, it'll come back to bite us in the tournament.

Kimble has been very good at 1st and keeps showing improvement as the season progresses. Yea he screwed the pooch on the one in between his legs but that happens every once in a while, especially in college ball.

Do you know baseball? - not all bounced throws are the same.  That was one of those in betweeners that is very difficult to field.

Unless I read it wrong they revised that ruling to state only if there is a "high likelihood" that a game can not be played on Saturday that a double header could be scheduled for Friday.

It's also corny that the SEC forces two 7 inning games for any Sunday double headers

The most recent SEC Commissioners Manual from Sept 2024 still had the no Friday doubleheader rule.  Maybe they changed it somewhere since then.

It would seem logical to allow Friday doubleheaders so I don't understand that rule.  The two 7 inning games on Sunday rule also doesn't seem to make sense unless the visiting team departure precludes two 9 inning games to be completed.

So, question answered -- they don't want to play the whole series.

"What is this weather thing you speak of?"

    Redneck dolts!

    I don't think you're assumption is correct.

Under SEC rules, a Friday doubleheader is NOT ALLOWED unless there is at least an 80% chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday (Sunday forecast is for no rain).

Why do you think they don't want to play us?  These "redneck dolts" have the best stadium and game atmosphere in college baseball.  There will be 14-15,000 fans and I seriously doubt they are looking for ways not to play us.  The SEC is a different animal than the Big12.  At least 8, if not 9, of our weekend series will require us to play very well to win them.

Seriously who the fuck invited O’Dowd back for the alumni game. As though he wasn’t frustrating enough to watch the last 3 years now we are subjected to more of him?

Clearly it must be the current coaches, ex-players and/or current players involved in which ex-players are invited -- but would assume the current coaches would have to have the final say on who participates.

If you don't like who is attending, why don't you just stay the hell away on Feb 1.

The entire Shriners Tournament at Globe Life will be on FloSports which could mean having to subscribe to watch.

FloSports® – Live Sports Event Streaming

The Vegas games will be streamed through D1 Baseball.  You need to be a subscriber to watch, but I think you can do a month to month subscription and then cancel after a month if you don't want it after that.  I think its $35 for first month including streaming.

Roster spots have actually gone down for 2025 as of a ruling in July.

34 players now but ALL can be on FULL scholarship (up from the BS 11.7 restriction and mostly only 1/4 scholarship or less)

For the 2025 Spring season, the roster limit remains at 40.  Starting in the 2026 season its 34 (used to be 35 pre-covid) and, as with all sports, all roster spots are allowed to be on full scholarship.

However, its up to each conference to set their scholarship limit and it looks like everyone will end up being under 34 for baseball.  Talk about the SEC, which will likely allow for the most baseball scholarships, is that they will initially limit it to around 25 full baseball scholarships for 2026.  But, unlike today, the teams will now be able to split that number however they wish among the players.

A key issue still to be determined for 2026 is when the teams must have the roster down to 34.  Some are arguing to have it at 34 before any Fall 2025 practice begins and others want there to be a higher Fall limit and allow the coaches to cut down to 34 sometime during or after Fall 2025 practice.

    C-Galvan

    1B- Schuessler/Stewart

    2B- Mendoza

    SS- Flores

3B- Borba/Rodriguez- Would give Borba the edge right now

    LF- Winfield

    CF- Gasparino

    RF- Belyeu

    DH- Rodriguez/Farmer/Polk/Stewart

Pitching is really tough to figure out because so many guys were limited in the fall due to workload or completely shut down. Whitehead is obviously still recovering from surgery and I believe Grubbs was limited all fall.

This pitching staff has about 8 guys I could see as a weekend starter but no one I really see a clear-cut Friday night guy, so that is probably both a good and bad thing. We couldn't figure out Friday nights last year, and that dug us into way too many holes.

Pitching will surprise many on the upside.  It will be a competitive staff in the SEC.

1B/DH probably if he hits. The need for Schuessler to rep at 1B probably went down with the Stewart news. Sanders can back him up and whoever hits and doesn’t have a spot in the INF can DH.

There will be some good players struggling for AB’s next year. First world problems.

Schuessler hit .343 and 1020 OPS with 10HR and some clutch hitting last year after having to sit out a full year with injury.  Bet he will be better this year.  Will be interesting to see what happens with 1B and DH this year.  He is also pretty universally considered by the players as the hardest worker on the team.

Over-sign, some programs to larger extents than others. Pierce would always cut a few per year or they'd show up needing TJ or something and would move on to a juco.

Last assessment had us at 41. Add latest transfer, 42. Limit is 40. Maybe more transfers/freshmen signees to come, fall injuries/cuts will get the number down to 40.

I think latest is actually 45 players, so if no more adds and noone leaves or gets injured this Fall (although every team seems to end up with injuries), would need to cut 5.

Updating the numbers (assuming all drafted guys sign)

C (4): Galvan, Schuessler, Service, Chamberlain

INF (7): Borba, Mendoza, Flores, Rodriguez, Richardson, Luna, Duplantier, Sanders

OF (8): Winfield, Gasparino, Belyeu, Farmer, Cummings, Peterson, Scott, Jordan

LHP (9): Whitehead, Mercer, Santos, Walker, Bing, Harrison, Navarre, Powell, Covert

    41 right there

I think there was talk he might just give up baseball.

Isn't he going to be 25 next season? I don't think he has much of a pro future but he's a good college reliever.  Some thought he might just move on to a career.

Heard he wasn't giving up baseball.  Had some potential to sign this year but would assume that Weiner coming in, who seems like a great pitching developer and was head of minor league pitching at Mariners, would be a big plus to coming back.  If surgery was in late Fall wouldn't be pitching in minors this Fall anyway.  Pitching for UT next year gives pitchers 3 months vs SEC, which is like low minors anyway, and pitchers signing next Summer only lose about 4 months of minor league games from April to August.

Thank you for your application Mr Jarrett. Your hiring pitch was very well written, with excellent punctuation and grammar. The University will get back to you.

It was just trying to show a specific example of what has happened recently with "under the radar guys".  I could have also added an anecdote about highly thought of and experienced assistant coaches being hired and doing well out of the gate such as Wes Johnson moving to Georgia this year.

Jarrett is from Tallahassee, played and coached at FSU and is in a good situation there.  Highly unlikely he would entertain an offer from somewhere else.

    Non answer, answer

Highly unlikely to be Johnson.  He is at a good program with a history of success, and big fan, administration and NIL support.  In addition, he has 5 years left on a contract paying him $1.8mm per year plus incentives and with a buyout of around $5.5mm.  I would take well north of $2mm per year to move him plus having to pay the buyout.

There are several guys out there I would classify as good coaches but haven’t been mentioned a lot during this process.

Mitch Canham is one at Oregon State. I’ve seen a few people talk about him. Andrew Checketts at UC Santa Barbara has had a lot of success and is a pitching guy. Also hosted a regional this year. Rob Vaughn at Bama who just finished year 1 and had a good tenure at Maryland.

Of course I would prefer all the splashy names being thrown out, but all 3 of those dudes are youngish coaches with success.

Everyone wants to focus on the "top 10" big names, but history would show that is not necessarily the best route to take if you want to win big and the CWS.  For at least the past 50 years, the only coaches who have taken a team to the CWS and then moved to another team and won the CWS with their new team are Paul Manieri (ND then won at LSU), Andy Lopez (Cal State DH then won at Pepperdine and Arizona), Jay Johnson (AZ then LSU) and Garrido (CSF then UT).

Also, today the top names are generally already at schools where they are

    1) winning big and have established their programs and assistant coaching rosters the way they want to run them

    2) have significant fan, NIL and administration support

    3) are in the Big 2 conferences SEC and ACC, and

    4) are being paid very well (with a few exceptions) so very tough to money whip them.

Convincing one of them to leave is difficult unless there are other outside circumstances such as Schloss leaving TCU for Aggy.

Guys who have won and are considered high-level coaches such as Corbin, OConnor, Vitello, Jarrett, Schlossnagle (when he was hired by TCU), Lemonis and Tadlock were more like the guys mentioned in the above post.  These guys are young, respected in the baseball community and will likely end up being guys who coach a team in the future that is competing for national championships.

I know UT fans look at the history of the program and athletic resources and convince themselves that anyone would jump at the chance to move to UT, but I don't think that is necessarily the case in the current college baseball landscape.  Maybe we end up getting one of the "top" guys but if the search is being done with the input of very good baseball people dialed in to college baseball, we should be able to get a coach who won't initially wow the fan and alumni base but could end up being great for the program long term.

Just one example - Link Jarrett had only been a head coach at UNCG for 6 or 7 years and only made one regional. Most college baseball fans had probably never heard of him. However, he was very highly respected in college coaching circles.  When ND hired him they were an ACC bottom dweller.  In his first year at ND (excluding Covid year where they were in 1st in the ACC when the season was cancelled) they lost in the final Super Regional game to the eventual CWS champion and then the next year went to the CWS.  Now he has Florida State in the CWS in his second year there.

If CDC and his guys look hard enough, there are likely one or more Link Jarrett types out there if they can't get a big name coach.
