Any feedback on the Camp Chef XXL Vertical?  Mixed reviews but I like the amount of cooking space and smaller porch footprint.

It’s badass. Temp distribution isn’t great all the way though so make sure you get that figured out. That smoke box really puts legit smoke flavor. May need to put a chunk every 45 mins or so.

Never been to this place, but that's pretty hard to reconcile with "top" or "one of the top BBQ" places. Pot roasty BBQ brisket is an oxymoron and a cardinal sin, IMO.

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe my slices weren’t perfect that particular day. Everything else slapped. Best ribs I’ve ever had.

This is the best BBQ in the world. Easily. Ive been searching for a place to supplant Truth for almost 8 years now and this is it. If its not #1 on the next top 50, ill be shocked. Ill also be shocked if it doesnt win Most Outstanding Restaurant in America at James Beard Awards this year

That place was awesome. Brisket was a little pot roasty but everything else was incredible

I hope this works out. But I worry he’s going to still have the dropsies. Which won’t really help the team with the most drops in the league.

Well I think they overcame that… strong take though.

That article is just whiny bullshit from the NFL. No one is offering 4th-6th round money in NIL unless it is to All Americans. There might 2-3 instances of this kind of thing happening and I doubt it is that many.

Now, 7th round and UFA money to get a team leader back? We do that.

How much did Bijan get? Him and Caleb Williams have to have had the biggest NIL allocation to date

Good thing Jamaal had the talent to go pro in something other than English or public speaking.

    First time hearing him talk?

  8. Sydir Mitchell looked like shit. Saw one pass rush that he tripped on his own dick and Hayden Connor just laid on him. There was also an instance down on the goal line where he got both shoulders flat on the ground at the same time pancaked. No pass rush. Hope he drops 15-20 before camp.

There's this thing some of us do, where we listen while doing activities that tie up our eyes and hands, like riding bikes or driving.

Agreed. I listen to the podcast audio as well. It's brutal. There will be 1-2 minutes of ads inserted into the program, and then Bobby or whoever will do another 30-60 second read. It's becoming unlistenable.

To be clear, I am a huge fan of what Bobby, Gerry, et. al. bring to the table. But they are producing too much material (it is therefore repetitive), and their podcasts come off very much like a website choked with pop-up ads. I hope this is seen as the constructive feedback it is intended to be.

Just fast forward. It really has become way too easy to live now a days. HBO MAX forcing 2 minute ads down my throat… that’s a beating. They’ve gone full circle on the ads(commercials).

Those Brussel sprouts are one of my favorite side dishes in BBQ and I really don't like vegetables

Brussel sprouts as a bbq side is clutch. Truth in Houston has sweeter profile, while burnt bean does a little saltier with Parmesan dusting. Never liked Brussel sprouts but oh buddy…. It’s a nice little mix up from the standard Mac and cheese

I’ve been subscribing to OTF and IT. Observations:

    Their casts align fairly well:

Ringleader- Burton (OTF), Nahlin (IT). Burton is a more adept host. Who gives more information? Quicker? May be a matter of opinion.

Ex-player- Babers (OTF), Kelson (IT). Again, a matter of taste. Babers has radio experience, but Kelson has a ten times better speaking voice. Babers, I feel, has a need to fill empty space that Kelson doesn’t. I prefer Kelson; even though he is never asked to carry a show, he usually provides real insights as the talk comes to him.

Ex coach- Ervin (OTF), Shipley (OTF), Williams (IT). Frankly, I find none of them a must listen. I do enjoy Bobby talking with Ervin during the season.

Cub reporter- CJ Vogel (OTF), Joe Cook (IT). I find Cook a better listen. YMMV

Recruiting Ace-Hamilton (OTF), Wells (IT). Hamilton seems to bring more, and has a better delivery. Wells? I get it. He’s a “dawg” and he’s from East Texas. Got it.

Does OTF have anyone like Boyd and Wadlington? I can’t find them, if they do. I like Boyd, when paired with Kelson or Wadlington. Wadlington pairs well with most everyone else. His “Everyone Gets a Trophy” podcast is a must listen, for me.

I think we’re lucky that we have both channels. I “subscribe” (Apple podcast- my $9.95 is IT) to both, and listen, primarily based on who is talking. If it’s CJ and Babers, I’m out. If it’s Wells and Williams, I’m out.

I like Nahlins informative pieces. Bobby is a good host, but he’s not out there following recruits anymore.  Bobby is super plugged in though and has had loads of great guests on. Hamilton is a badass. Wells regurgates the same info on a prospect in numerous articles.

IT probably has better content on the forum but OTF has a much better YouTube channel

Let's look at WR for this class, as it pertains to reasonable targets for Texas.

    Elite

Lockett - Elite components: 6'7" wing span, extra large hands, great high pointer. Situation: Texas leads.

Moore - Elite components: Track star speed. Most explosive WR out of his stance in this cycle nationally. Situation: A future state glimpse of recruitments between Texas and LSU. Both have a lot to sell. Both are putting WRs in the NFL this cycle in high rounds. The guy will have ex-teammates on both teams. NIL is a factor. LSU's NIL, irrespective of hagiographic shit being pumped out in a documentary, is limited. They simply cannot throw major NIL dollars at every spot. Do they say "fuck it" and sacrifice other targets at other positions in order to win here? Maybe. There are a lot of people who think this one flips. I could see either outcome right now.

Ffrench - Elite components: Route running. Optionality, can play all WR positions well. Excellent yet undercoached in typical state of Florida recruiting ways, leaving significant developmental upside. Situation: There are plenty of good reasons for this guy to go to any of the schools he's considering. OSU's record with WRs and the NFL is strong. FSU is about to put guys in the league this cycle too. Tennessee, sure. Miami is regionally relevant. NIL is likely a big deal here. No one between OSU, Tenn, or Texas can claim a legit advantage here in that regard.

High Quality Talent W/out an Elite Skill or Trait

Johnson - You could argue that this guy possesses elite speed with sub 11.00 100 times while also playing multiple sports. He's not ranked as an elite player because 1) he plays for a 3a school and most of his footage is just him catching the ball wide open and running away from everyone and 2) he has a very thin frame, akin to that of Worthy. Texas leads.

Harris - Average measurables for a WR. Plays for an elite football program that is a CFB prospect factory. Ceiling may be limited. Apparently has excellent hands and plays the position really well. Does not possess elite speed. Seems kind of obvious that Texas leads.

McCutcheon - Insane production numbers. Probably limited only to slot in college and allegedly is leaning towards OOS. Texas is hosting him for an OV, at least as of this time, but they have not pushed as a priority.

Marsh - Good size, lacks elite speed, apparently has excellent hands. He has a helicopter parent who is a legitimate distraction. The player has alleged attitude issues, but given his personal life without a dad and a mom likely heading to prison, maybe that's a nurture/environment thing. Apparently, ATM isn't really an interest for him. He's pushed for interest from Texas. OU likes him.

Choice - This dude has great height and uses it well. I don't know about his track times but he doesn't look like a blazer. Apparently, he's a heavy OU lean but has a UT visit scheduled.

    ----

I might be missing something, but that's the 8 targets I feel like we hear about the most.

Texas will take between 3-4, it seems. How does that mix shake out?

Irrespective of how the services are ranking him, Johnson looks like a staff priority. I think he is the most likely player to get the "we want you, but we need to know what you're going to do now before we are forced to make other choices if you're not on board" treatment here in the next few weeks/months. So I think they land him.

Lockett is a must get. He has visited Texas far more than any other school and they are doing everything they can to land him. I think they land him during his visit or shortly thereafter. Competition is more or less "the field" which is also good.

That leaves 1-2 other spots. I doubt they land both Moore and Ffrench. I think it is likelier that they don't land either of them. Nonetheless, let's assume Texas pushes a ton of chips in on Moore and the LSU offense this seasons is a shadow of its former self.

So who is your number 4? If it is Harris, great, that keeps SoCal's attention on the program and Sarkisian saves his biases.

I'd rather punt on #4 unless Ffrench pulls the trigger. I like McCutcheon but clearly that isn't the staff's opinion or they're just not getting much back from him. The portal will have a ton of options and there is no reason to believe that Texas, while putting more WRs into the pros and Arch Manning waiting in the wing, with Sarkisian's offense, won't be a premier landing spot for the best WRs in the portal, yet again.

    What's everyone else's mix?

Moore, Lockett and Johnson. Really don’t think they need 4 unless it’s a stacked 4. Sark can pull too much from the portal at WR to give be giving out non elite spots.
