  1. I had just finished working the lunch shift at Dominic's in El Paso circa 1995 when my buddy and I headed over to our usual cheap drink spot at Kazi's Bar & Grill. It was early afternoon so there wasn't maybe 4 people (including the bar staff) in the whole joint. I was chugging down $1 Tecate number 4 or 5 when in walked this enormous human being. I turned to my buddy and exclaimed "Dude, that's Randy White!" Buddy justifiedly replied "What in the fuck would Randy White be doing here?"

I knew who it was though. So when Randy sat down at a table with a bunch of Miller Lite shit I went over to introduce myself. I apologized for bothering him and explained I just wanted to shake his hand and say thank you for the great memories. He shook my hand and said he was glad to meet a fan. He was there doing promotional shit for Miller and offered to sign anything I wanted. I ran home and got a Cowboys jacket and mini-helmet for him to sign along with a bunch of 3x5 cards they had at the bar. He was more than happy to sign everything and talk about the good ol' days. He had just gotten into the NFL Hall of Fame the year before and signed everything "HOF '94".

I've met a handful of other Cowboys but Randy's the only one I got to sign stuff. I've also got a Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson signed photograph of the "Hail Mary Catch" that I saw at one of the Cowboy's San Antonio preseason camps that I just couldn't pass on and paid cash for it.

And I always get a laugh watching that aggy rentacop grab the SMU cheerleader instead of the corps turd waving & threatening unarmed boys with a big machete.

It gets me every time. What could he have been thinking: "Hey, hey there. Leave that poor man with the sword alone."

Jordan Whittington. He would have been ahead of Cain on the depth chart from day 1. We just had some horrible luck with our RB2 in the class, who had just won top football player in georgia awards last season. Its not like we have JAGs next season. We just need another serviceable weapon to put into the rotation.

I thought Jordan was only playing RB because there was no depth. Would he even be there if Cain had come to Austin?

  4. I'm as certain Saban would have won multiple championships at Texas as I am that Texas would have beat his 'Bama team if Colt hadn't gotten hurt.

Actually, if rumors are to be believed and Mack thought his legacy would be secure with multiple NCs and was ready to hand over the reigns to Muschamp in '10 then Saban to Texas might have actually been more likely to happen. Muschamp would have more than likely fallen flat on his face, similar to what happen at UF, and in short order Texas would have been justified (in a non-cesspool kind of way) in offering Saban the Brinks truck and there wouldn't have been any realistic roadblock to stop it.

In short I blame GGD for the simple fact that Texas hasn't won half a dozen NCs in the last decade. Fuck that guy, fuck Mack Brown, and Fuck OU for good measure.

  5. Harley Sewell

    HarleySewell_original.jpg?1272837557

    all-SWC ('51 & '52) AA ('52) guard

Regarded as one of the best O-lineman in Texas history. Was a 1st round pick of the Lions in 1953 where he played for 10 seasons garnering 4 pro-bowl honors.

    Found this story funny:

A fan complains to assistant coach J.T. King that the night before the Cotton Bowl game Harley Sewell was dipping snuff.   King said to the fan " If you'll find out what brand Harley is dipping, I'll recommend it to the whole damn team."

I had an Uber driver a few years ago that said he played football for Rice back in the mid-70s. He was a running back until his senior year, when the coach moved him to DB...right before the Texas game. He said he tried to tackle Earl once...after that, "shit...I didn't even care about football anymore, I was just getting out of the way the rest of the game."

Buddy I used to work with was on the '73 Austin Reagan team that lost to Tyler in the state finals and had a similar story.  He said he tried to tackle Earl and got absolutely destroyed then spent the rest of the game making sure he was never the first and never alone when trying to bring him down.

And that makes me realize something. Not playing us preserves those years where they can make that claim. If we were to win several (there’s that math thing again) those dates could be eliminated like Marty mcfly’s siblings.

Or if they hadn't of cheated their asses off under Jackie in the 80's there would be no cherry picked timeline to choose from. Let them have their selected time frame of glory over varsity. As usual they'll be the last to figure out it just makes them look dumb.

How can it be true in 84, 85, 86 but then not 87?

They vacate some wins or something? I was a child back then but am aware of the fact that they were crooked. One of my first experiences as a fan was the cotton bowl my senior year of high school and someone explaining why we were chanting poor Jackie.

    Because math

Record of aggy vs. Texas since:

    1984 ~ 15-13

    1985 ~ 14-13

    1986 ~ 13-13

    1987 ~ 12-13

    1988 ~ 11-13

    1989 ~ 10-13

    1990 ~ 9-13

Note: they never state "what's the record since 1990?"

    David Studdard

While he may be best known today as Kasey's dad, he was the starting OT for Earl's Heisman run before playing 9 seasons for the Broncos.

He also helped recruit his brother Les (All Conference 1980 OG) and his roommate to be Robin Sendlein (Lyle's dad) to Texas.
