  1. Herbstreit saying UGA being left out of the playoffs was more about "politics". aggy defending SECSECSEC.

    Question asked by another user:

"In regards to this, I have a serious question: does UGA or Clemson get in if Clemson had lost to Pitt?"

I'm not the guy you responded to, but in your hypothetical...UGA, all day. Clemson's schedule was pathetic. They lose any games and they drop below even a 2 loss UGA in my mind.

I think UGA is a better team than OSU or OU, but there was no way in hell the committee was going to snub a 1 loss conference champ on UGA's behalf. That's why Herb is calling it politics, because he thinks UGA is the better team but the committee won't pull the trigger because the fallout and cries of "SEC bias" would be overwhelming.

UGA now looks better than the UGA that lost to LSU; the D is top notch and they can run or throw with efficiency. OU now doesn't look any different than the OU that lost to UT though; the defense is still a dumpster fire and the running game is one dimensional. The OSU now doesn't look any different than the OSU that lost to Purdue either; their D is still suspect and they rely on the passing game to get it done.

Herb's a bit abrasive about it, but I agree with him. They left UGA out because they can't afford to piss off the Big 12 and Big 10. I'm honestly surprised they slid UGA ahead of OSU to be honest.

Respectfully, the mistake people from other parts of the country make is thinking this rivalry was ever really about sports. It's not. It's about being the preeminent university in the state in all ways. Now to the rest of the country, sports obviously plays a huge role in perception. A&M leadership, to their credit, realized that to change the perception of the university, we had to dissociate ourselves from the University of Texas's 'shadow', so to speak. Enrollment is up 30-40% over the past decade, and we've been a larger school than t.u. for several years now. The goal is to fill the state with Aggies to ensure that our donations for both academics and athletics outpace theirs for the foreseeable future, and the abundance of Aggie graduates who become Aggie voters will prevent the legislature from disproportionately favoring t.u. like they have historically.

Even if you look at athletics, from our side, it was an unwinnable game. Beat the Longhorns 8 years out of 10 and the press says it's an aberration. Lose a couple times and 'things are back to normal'. The Longhorns controlled the narrative so much that we realized we had to knock the pieces off the chessboard, so to speak. A very large amount, probably even a majority, of Aggies DO NOT want to revive the series any time soon because of the lack of respect and patronizing attitude shown by University of Texas leadership, especially during the conference realignment process.

In short, we realized that playing Texas in football, win or lose, doesn't actually accomplish any of our goals. But don't let Aggies who say we don't care about them any more or that the rivalry is over fool you. It's not over. Almost all our moves are about a long term plan to supplant them as the university of choice in Texas, and not playing them is just one of our moves.

  5. McMurphy said in the comments that the transfer database is not available to the public.

In Ean Pfeiffer's pinned tweet it says he's sitting out the 2018 season and will have 2 years of eligibility left, but in his Vanderbilt profile it listed him as a RS Sophomore for the 2017 season. That means this is his 4th year and he should have just played at Vanderbilt this year and then been a grad transfer (unless Vanderbilt wasn't going to allow it). He'll only have 1 year left regardless once he transfers.

You have to use two compounds of tire in the race. So if he didn’t pit he’d be DQ’d.

Did not know that. Thanks. I appreciate all the updates from you guys that have been following this for a long time.

  7. This is my first season watching F1 and I love it so far. Currently watching qualifying. My question from last week is do you think Verstappen would have finished better if he would have stayed with the soft tires with less than 15 laps to go without pitting? Or would they have given out at some point. It seemed like a risk worth taking, but I'm a noob.
