No they would immediately get that cap space as soon as they renounce his rights and/or he signs elsewhere.
They are 30M over the cap currently so they would only have about 20M to use not his full 50. More teams are taking the path of guys opting in or otherwise making sure they are under contract and then trading them. This way they can get the full value. I highly doubt the Lakers didnt want him to opt in whether the plan going forward is to have him on the team or not.

Zach Lowe isn’t a click baiter. He does have a lot of trust in his sources though who can be wrong quite a bit
Saying he wants a buyout is click-batiy. If you want to say he is prepping/angling for a trade, ok. Saying he is looking for a buyout is stupid and purposely done to make him seem greedy.

No Caitlin and the Fever still get it done winning the Commissioner's Cup. Good stuff.

Good grief. This game is on Prime. I fucking hate when the games are on there. There is little to no notice as to where to watch the game.

Houston had the first WNBA dynasty with the Comets and there has been a lot of desire and interest locally for them to come back. It’s shocking markets the size of Houston and Miami got passed up.
Agreed on HOU. They should have brought back the Comets. As far as MIA goes, they sometimes have trouble filling the arena if the Heat are not good. There may be too much to do down there for a W team LOL

Yeah but 3 more teams after 2 more are added soon...that's 6 new teams in less than 5 years. Seems very fast.
The NBA added 4 team in 2 yrs between 88-90 then 2 more 5 yrs later. There is precedent.

Have to agree with her. Bypassing Houston, Miami and Nashville and choosing rust belt cities seems dumb.
Detroit and Cleveland have history as they both had teams previously. Being from Detroit I've seen firsthand there has been a long running push by fans to bring the Shock back.

NBA off-season is the best off-season.
Yeah and this one has been somewhat tame compared to the last few

Thanks. Stupid complicated but that makes sense. If SGA is still at the top of his game when he hits 10 years would he extend at 35%?
Yep, he would then have 2 yrs left and be above 10 yrs of service. So it would make sense for him to not extend in 2 yrs and wait another yr.

Can someone explain to me how this works? Why is one max 2 years and another 4? And how is the MVP/World Champ worth less per year than Booker? My only memory of Booker is of him being a pouty little bitch in last years playoffs while getting punked nonstop by Luka.
Booker still has 3 yrs left on his deal. SGA only had one yr left. They started letting teams extend player when they have 3 yrs or less left recently but a player cannot have more than 5 yrs on the books. Max salary is calculated based on yrs of service. Booker has been in the league for 10 so his max is 35% of the cap. SGA has been in the league for only 7 so his max would be 30%.

Buyout, right?
I think he has to be waived in order to use the stretch provision. He gets the full amount left on his deal. For buyouts, his full cap number remains on their payroll until the contract would have expired

Turner finally leaves Indy
[Charania] BREAKING: Free agent center Myles Turner has agreed to a four-year, $107 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, plus a player option for year four in 2028-29 and a full 15% trade kicker, sources tell ESPN. Stunner.
Bucks get a younger but more expensive Brook Lopez to replace Brook Lopez

So the story on Booker is that he likes the Suns because of the proximity to LA without having to play on one of the LA teams right?
Get paid outrageous sums of money with no real pressure to win in an organization that seems to point fingers at anyone but him for the failures. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig.
