  1. So we’re having some kids over for my son’s 9th birthday party and she tells me to put away the long-reach butane lighter that is up on the third shelf of our pantry. I turn to her with a puzzled look and say, “you mean the one you can’t ever get to light”?

I get tone, but move it even further out of sight.

Then comes candle-lighting time, and she comes over with some matches, but, after about three attempts, she still can’t light all 9 candles. I get the long-reach lighter back out and light the rest of the candles, then put it back up near the top of the pantry.

After cake, I see the matches left there on the counter and turn ragey.

I threw my used-up deodorant container in the bathroom trash.   A couple hours later I see my wife carrying it downstairs and I’m like WTF?  She’s trying to recycle it.   I made her put on her reading glasses and look at the bottom of it.  Not recyclable. For a reason.

Mine wastes about 35 gallons of water to be able to wash and clean food containers so that they can be recycled. Then proceeds to leave the lights on and a/c set to 70 after she leaves for work.

i had one of those.  just take this as a great opportunity to trash it and replace with a Brother laser.

100% agree with this. Brother MFC line are workhorses and their customer support is actually helpful. I suggested to my father in law that he get one and calls from him asking me about printer issues have gone to zero (also suggested he get a Mac).

Lately I've been frequently ordering Malbec's at restaurants and it's been a pretty good bang for your buck when you are already overpaying for wine.  Particularly with steak as a "good" cab is both too damn expensive and depending on the size of the quality of the wine list most likely too young to drink anyways.  I need to start paying better attention to what I've ordered but anyone have any "go to's" I could pick up at Specs/Total wine?

Other option is to order a Malbec blend like this Vistalba (a bargain at $15 at Spec’s - https://specsonline.com/shop/wine/vistalba-corte-c-carlos-pulenta-2009/). It’s 76% Malbec, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% bonarda. They are tougher to find at restaurants, but to me, they have that strong Malbec start with a good Cabernet finish, whereas a straight Malbec wine finishes a bit watery.

gaspar, did you go up in the tower of the Old Post Office?   They say it's now the highest view in DC until the Washington Monument is repaired.

Nope, didn’t make it up there. The views from the POV bar on the roof of the W are nice.

    Hopefully it isn't this one:

He also totally blew a goal against Real Madrid in the Ida of their Quarterfinal matchup.

He is the least clutch striker ever. (At least who played/plays for Argentina.)

I think that he had a wonder blunder for Real Madrid in the Champions League many years ago and the fans never forgave him for it.

It will probably come down to whether Di Maria can stay healthy. When he plays, they seem to find scoring easier.

Have lunch at Michie Tavern.  Family style dining, southern comfort food,  Pretty close to Monticello

Will do now - you’re the third person who recommended the place.

  8. We’re at the W now and seems pretty central.  Tomorrow I’m driving to Monticello for the day while my wife is doing a mock for a Supreme Court case on Monday.

We walked through the new Trump hotel that was the Old Post Office and it was just gaudy.

Going to see Justin Timberlake at T-mobile next Saturday with the wife. Where should we eat dinner before? Any recs?

Bardot Brasserie at the Aria is solid for a nice dinner. Been there at least 3x and nothing but excellent food and service each time. It’s right in the middle of casual and formal.

La Sicilia Italian Bakery & Cafe is pretty good. It's next to the new Papa Geno's location.

Second the La Sicilia rec - they only offer 2-3 pasta dishes for lunch so far, but they are good. I’ve tried the cannelloni as well as a couple of their sandwiches/pita bread.

Nice!  Have you been in the area before?   We spent some time there a couple of years ago.  Roussillon is cool as fuck, it's like walking around on Mars.  And we really liked Arles too.   If you are driving, consider hitting Les Baux-de-Provence on the way to or from Arles.  Not only is the ancient castle incredible, especially if you have kids, the turned the cave from which the stones were mined into this amazing light show:  https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1819081-d2651179-Reviews-Carrieres_de_Lumieres-Les_Baux_de_Provence_Bouches_du_Rhone_Provence_Alpes_Cote_.html

(the pics online don't do it justice)

We were in Provence on vacation with our 8 and 6 year olds last summer. Second the rec on hitting Les Baux while in Provence, a few cool medieval replica battle vehicles (life size trebuchet and battering ram) at the top of the castle.  The mining cave, turned light show is walking distance from Les Baux. We stayed at a b&b called La Bastide de Voulonne - highly recommended since it has a heated pool for the kids and was pretty central to a lot of the other towns we visited (Gourdes, Roussillon, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Avignon).
