If she leaves, it’s bc Elliot found an OPP in the portal or bc she’s tired of him running Jenna out there to get blocked a million times and not yank her

But yes she’d be in line to start at OPP, her regular position. And Byrd would push Jenna at OH

Fair point.  I'm sure while we were all screaming to bench Wenaas, Devin was giving side-eye to whichever coach happened to look her way.

  2. Dammit, it took me too long to have something to update in this thread!  After Waxahachie, I started off in Rowlett doing the wrong thing for 4 games and was 80 pins out of the cut.  Switched balls, got deep and started hooking it.  Wound up missing the cut by about 10 pins. 🤬  Almost the same thing happened in Beaumont in November.  Started with 240, then lost it and missed some spares.  Made a change and came back the last 2 games to miss by about 10 again. 🤬 🤬  Next was Odessa in January.  I thought my spare game had gotten better, but I was wrong.  Missed about 8 in that 8 games to miss the cut again by 30ish. 🤬🤬🤬  Totally changed how I hold my spare ball when I got home.

Then, I decided to go to Colorado to see an old UT roommate and bowl a regional up there.  Glad I did.  Started 252-290.  LFG!  It was up and down after that, but finished +168 to be 3rd after qualifying (behind only Tom Hess and Tish Johnson).  Slipped a little to 5th the next 6 games Sunday morning because I didn't put enough surface on the purple hammer.  Didn't make that mistake twice.  After the 3rd round, I finished in the 3-seed for the stepladder.  Shot a clean 225, but lost to a 229 because he strung more strikes.  The 4th place $1000 check barely covered my expenses, but I didn't go for the money.

Don't know if I'll bowl another regional before the summer, but the National PBA50 tour starts in Vegas the first week of June with the USBC Senior Masters.  I'm taking the wife to that one.  Should be fun.

Mac Podraza stays in the B1G, chooses Penn State

Texas will roll with Swindle, of course, and maybe seek a grad transfer like Ewert in the May portal period?

Does Swindle seem that much of a shoe-in for the job over Crownover, assuming no transfer?  But I definitely agree that we should be looking in the portal for an experienced setter.

It’s a bit negligible but after we had to face 6’0 Achante and 6’2 Podraza at the opposing setter position, we will face 5’9 Blossom at USD. Hopefully Logan and Skinner enjoy her front row rotations to hit over her block

I don't think it's negligible at all.  Skinner and KU abusing Jhenna's block is one of the main reasons we lost in 2020.  It's no coincidence a 6ft SKT shows up a month later.

  5. Very nice Wulaw!  Strikes for show, spares for dough.  As for the 10.7 mph, those radar guns are pretty suspect.  I had one last week consistently read in the 40mph range.  If they get bumped a little, the reading is trash.

My Mom asked for a bowling ball bag for her bday. She's not fancy, just something for her ball, shoes, and wrist brace. I'd like it to be good quality. Brand and/or specific 1 ball bag recs?

The main thing would probably be to get her a roller.  That's always better than carrying your stuff.  If she's partial to any specific ball brand, maybe look at the bags that brand makes.  Otherwise, KR Strikeforce should be a little cheaper and probably better quality.

Real talk though, COVID was rough on LHB as an institution. They basically had two years of no games for upperclassmen to pass traditions down, so everything is a little off as they get the flywheel spinning again.

Add to this the "Eyes of Texas" controversy where they could have played in 2020, but didn't.  Bringing in Dr. Crooms in May 2021 as the new director has helped right the ship, since he was in LHB as an undergrad.

Last play in this video - Bijan jog into the endzone:

"OU safety looks like he doesn't know Bijan has the ball.  Probably wouldn't have mattered if he did - Bijan likely stiff-arms his face into the turf.  Safety likely saved himself some embarrassment by not knowing."

Dude may have saved himself some embarrassment on TV, but he's sure as hell gonna hear about it in the film room. :)

Love this play from Sark & Quinn.

Pre snap, he reads the safety following the motion, vacating the middle and leaving Worthy outside 1 on 1. He knows where the ball is going.

As he fakes to the RB, he sets his feet in anticipation of the pass to come.

Play fake, feet are set, quick set up and release,

    Touchdown Texas!

    Now that's a Quarterback.

And even after Quinn knows where he's going with the ball pre-snap, he still holds the ball in Bijan's stomach for an extra split second just to make damn sure the safety doesn't even think about dropping.

  10. @Mittens You were several seats away from me.  I was right on the baseline.  First live match for me this season too.  Skinner's passing has improved as well.  It's nice to have someone that good be able to step up when Logan has a sub-par night, and she did.  Some of that was on SKT.  I get they want to set the pin quicker to beat the block, but if the pass is off the net, just set it high and let her go over or tool the block.  They tried to force the quick ones too much and Logan hit .194.  The Greg went nuts when Parra came in for Logan in the 3rd set to serve though.  I really wanted to see her unleash one in person, but she only served twice - first one in the net and second one floated long.

  11. Well, fuck!  My weekend didn't go as planned.  I wound up having to bowl with Chris Barnes for 8 games on Saturday, so I got a front row seat to how a hall-of-famer operates.  It was a bit intimidating at first and I was already a little too hyped-up to start.  Unfortunately, I just never really settled down and got into a groove.  I made some poor equipment choices and only had a couple good games (225, 234).  The other 6 were all sub-195.  Finished 46th of 63. Dropped 10 spots with a 130 in game 8 when I was already out of it.  That was also shortly after the Horns choked in Lubbock.  Time to re-group for another one in Rowlett on ou weekend.

The shop did me a solid with the turnaround, and put me in the exact right ball for that shot. I didn’t have squat for a layout with me for that type of change, but damn sure have since then.

Details?  What ball, layout, oil pattern?

Dumb idiot question… most expensive ball you own or have bought?

slightly less dumb, are knee issues common for bowlers? What’s most common injury/weak spot that breaks down?

The most expensive balls are about $275ish.  I have a couple that were about $250.

Knee issues on your slide leg are not uncommon - things like torn patella tendons.  Arm issues are more common in the wrist, rather than the shoulder or elbow.

Probably 60% of the stuff I have is set back for tournaments only. Leagues/house here not worth the high risk of trashing it out.

That's about the right ratio.  Maybe even 70%.  Where do you bowl tournaments?  Do we know each other?

Damn Thunder!  And people make fun of me for having 2 lockers.  You got mostly Storm stuff and some Lane #1 it looks like.  I'm all Storm except for the purple hammer.  Here's all 26 of my balls.  The stuff on the floor is what's going to Waxahachie.

Okay, I'll stop reminiscing after this. In the 70s, Memorial Stadium was never full for non-important games. These were fun days in Austin and around campus. Texas hosted an Octuba Fest in Memorial stadium and invited all of the Sousaphone players from high schools. There were at least a hundred. It was great hearing them play songs. I don't recall if they marched. They must have come onto the field at halftime with the LHB. Wally Pryor's wry voice...great times.

LHB did something like this when I was in high school.  I think we played 76 trombones.  They invited area trombones, baritones, and tubas (me). This was late '80s so we were like the only people in the whole north end zone bleachers.

  18. After starting league with the worst 2-week span in my adult life (527, 531), my local tour pro buddy told me to stop trying to hook the ball so much and straighten it out a little.  I recovered after the Labor Day break with a 701 and then 748 last night on my birthday.  Time to get ready to bowl against the 50+ crowd in Waxahachie this weekend!

App St ran 82 plays (to 38 for aggy) and had a 41:29 to 18:17 advantage in time of possession. Their game plan seemed pretty sustainable to me.

That is a ridiculous disparity!  That's the kind of shit Army tries to do to people with the wishbone.

Max Johnson is QB1 now. So Haynes King will transfer. Max will do better than King but lose a game he shouldn’t.

I feel like I’ve seen this movie before

So... King wins the heisman in 2024?
