  1. Virginia is going to allow schools to pay NIL directly.

    Quote

Schools in Virginia will be able to directly pay athletes via name, image and likeness deals thanks to a state law signed Thursday morning, marking another significant step in the professionalization of college sports.

The new law, which is scheduled to take effect July 1, is the first in any state to make it illegal for the NCAA to punish a school for compensating athletes for their NIL rights. Current NCAA rules prohibit schools from signing NIL deals with their own players. The law could either give Virginia schools a significant recruiting advantage or provide a catalyst for similar changes elsewhere.

Disregarding that, there is no way that putting a cap on someone's ability to earn money off of their own name, image and likeness would stand up in court. The NCAA already tried this and the Supreme Court took a giant shit on them.

It would have to be collectively bargained between the schools and the players.

Is it doomer if I feel like this year's team to last year's team will be like 2009's team to 2008's team?

In 2008 we finished 3rd-4th and in 2009 we made the championship game.  In 2023 we finished 3rd-4th and in 2024 we will make the championship game.  I'm in.  Hopefully Ewers stays healthy.

Let me make sure I understand your theory here, Matlock. He was tested after booking (approximately 1.5 hours after the accident) and over the legal limit, but you think he might have been under the legal limit at the time of the accident? Are you unfamiliar with the way alcohol absortion and detoxification work or do you think the cops took out for a drink or two on the way to the station?

It may not be the likeliest scenario, but blood alcohol concentration can continue to rise for a couple of hours after the last drink was consumed depending on a variety of factors.

But the tone of voice AND the facial expression she used when she said “no comment” WAS aggressively hostile and shitty!!!!!!1

The official line was that the state department told them all not to comment.

It's weird that the state department only cared about what Kim Mulkey said about it and not about what any other coaches or players said about it.

Again, I hold no brief for Kim Mulkey and knew nothing about her other than she rode Britney Griner to championships at Baylor and won another championship at LSU last year wearing ridiculous outfits.

My objection was to the original RedditCFB post saying Mulkey “didn’t lift a finger” to get Britney Griner out of prison in Russia. Griner was a hostage taken by an autocrat playing 19th century power politics. We had to trade the Lord of War to get her back, for God’s sakes. There was literally nothing that Mulkey could have done to effectuate her release regardless of her platform as a women’s college basketball coach, and the tweet made it sound like all Mulkey had to do was make a few phone calls to get her out. It was a ridiculous tweet and if there is as much actual dirt on Mulkey as this thread seems to suggest, there should have been much more legitimate arrows in the quiver to sling.

No one was complaining that she did not get Griner out of prison.  However, her response to the situation was aggressively hostile and shitty.  It certainly seemed like she went out of her way to give the impression that she did not give a damn about Brittney Griner.

Looks like the expanded CFP contract is final.
    Some take aways

B1G and SEC schools get 21 mil

    ACC schools 13

    Big12 gets 12 per

    Notre Dame 12

    1.3 BIL total / year

AND that’s prorated up if playoffs expanded from 12 to 14.

Also interesting that ESPN can subcontract out some of the playoff games to NBC / CBS / Fox too. I wonder if that’s going to happen.

Oh and the championship games is moving to ABC
