Appropriately, I just recently finished reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World.
It's very interesting to read Doyle's description of an Allosaurus, based on the state of paleontology in 1912:
In the deep shadow of the tree there was a deeper shadow yet, black, inchoate, vague—a crouching form full of savage vigor and menace. It was no higher than a horse, but the dim outline suggested vast bulk and strength. That hissing pant, as regular and full-volumed as the exhaust of an engine, spoke of a monstrous organism. Once, as it moved, I thought I saw the glint of two terrible, greenish eyes... The thing moved forward with a dreadful snarl. Lord John never hesitated, but, running towards it with a quick, light step, he dashed the flaming wood into the brute's face. For one moment I had a vision of a horrible mask like a giant toad's, of a warty, leprous skin, and of a loose mouth all be-slobbered with fresh blood. The next, there was a crash in the underwood and our dreadful visitor was gone.

Yes. You just won't be able to get the 3 day early access, and the pre-order bit is a little more complicated, depending on the retailer.
I'm in the same boat. Fuck that digital nonsense.
For what it's worth, some of the newer AAA titles are too large to fit on Blu-ray discs in use today. The physical disc just contains download keys.

This is just dumb. By this definition, the Pilgrims were quitters. They could have stayed in England but they were dissatisfied with their situation in their current country so they just quit. And Willie Nelson? A quitter. He was dissatisfied with his situation in Nashville so he just quit and moved to Austin. And guess what? He ended up winning. Platitudes like "quitters never win and winners never quit" are disproved by history, which is filled with examples of people who "quit" one thing/place and ended up winning somewhere else.
Babur was a quitter. He fought for and lost Samarkand no fewer than three times, then fled Transoxiana to India ...where he founded one of India's greatest empires.
Temüjin was a quitter. He was defeated by his own brother in battle and fled into hiding for ten years... then returned, seized the mantle of Genghis Khan and built the Mongol Empire.

Ewers is Texas' third EA Sports CFB cover athlete, joining Ricky Williams and Brian Orakpo. That's tied for second-most with USC, behind Michigan who has four. Pretty cool.
blOU and A&M fans will not be thrilled, having to buy a game with Ewers on the cover 😁

On 4/27/2024 at 12:21 PM, Jimmy Two Times said:Average Aggie Saturday morning: wake up still shaking with rage because biased NFL GMs are ignoring whorns players' BDF film and drafting them in early rounds. Turn on the computer, log on to TexAgs and write a 7 paragraph essay about how the sips cheated their way to recruiting stud players, but also those players suck and weren't developed, except the ones that were developed and if they were developed, it took too long.
A Day in the Life of The A&M Cultist
10:49 AM - Wake up to the sound of voicemail and the caller laughing, "I'm not sure what a 'sip' is and why you don't want us to draft a single one, but I did want to say that we've decided to hire another candidate for our scouting department. You are very...umm..enthusiastic. Good luck!" As the caller hangs up, you hear others in the background giggling. Your eyes squint and your lip curls. ********! Clearly whorns fans! No wonder they smiled at each other when you showed up to the Panthers' front offices in a #12 jersey and blazer.
10:56 AM - It occurs to you that The Elkinator would be an excellent nickname for Coach Elko. Scramble for mom's iPad and custom maroon Apple pencil to write it down. Can't find blank page as Notes doc is filled with Reveille essays, heart symbols, the phrase ELKO 4EVER and the adjectives GUTTY, DETERMINED, HEADY and WINNER written over and over. Reread essay entitled "What Elko has taught me about love" and reflect on its final line...."Wherever puppies lick jowls, wherever maroon bluebonnets grow on windy dales, wherever people will help a stranger......The Elk will be there."
11:02 AM - Morning weeping is finished. Touch Elko poster over bed and light candle while assuming a meditation position. You mumble a silent prayer and beg God to end his testing of Elko and Conner Weigman. And for Quinn Ewers to have a serious industrial accident involving pipe fittings.
11:59 AM - Log on to SECrant. Weave through ******** analysis and threads about the spring game. Analysis, facts, analysis, ********....it all makes your head hurt. Decide anti-tu, pro-Texas Fightin' Aggies post is needed and write the following:
sip u's offense is joking! Joke! Joke! Look no farther than Quinn Ewers who is logging into recaveers and threw more than five intercepts last year. I guess it is because they know they can not beat us.... Other things:
Jimbo was a HORRIBLE coach. Hello!? Coach or whatever.
sip u's WR's did not catch the ball because Ewers throws to hard and it hurts them! I know this because kids used to hum balls at me when I'd loiter to close to the football players in high school wanting to decorate their lockers.
Weigman's posture against maroon was amazing. I was screaming,"Conner! Conner!" hysterically all game and when he came in his karisma (korisma?) was amazing. He surveyed the field like General Charles De Gaulle or someone.
Hello!?!? Anyone else notice that Bisonits is a guard now? I called this two years ago.
Anthill. Not SEC good. He has been embbarasing comapred to Taurean York (which I also pointed out) and is small and slow. I mean, please.
2:56 PM - Log back on to post and gauge responses. There are three Aggies and Sooners agreeing with you calling Texas "sip U". This is hilarious to you! You roll on the ground laughing. Two Aggies with extremely exuberant posting names (OlSarge & HarvardOfTheBrazos) agree with you. Several Alabama and Georgia fans are calling you a dumbass. This hurts you. How could someone attack a fellow SECer? Aren't we all in the same conference? These are the kind of people who talk about "championships" and "nattys" when we should all be concentrating on beating tu!
1:43 PM - Go to Northgate to distribute Elko Literature. Ask people, "Have you heard the Good News of Elko?" Most people walk quickly away, but a handful of people stay and listen. The people that stay reek of weed and take your Apple watch after choking you for a while.
2:08 PM - Email the South African town of Orania and inquire as to the feasibility of purchasing land for a settlement for good ol' Ags. Oranian officials have thus far ignored requests. Consider coloring in South Africa on world map in orange denoting a whorns controlled sphere of influence.
3:39 PM - Watch Weigman highlights. '22 LSU. Again and again. Watch tu spring game to see if you can actually see where Sark slips a $100 bill into Arch Manning's palm during a handshake at halftime. 13 0 Branding Iron told you this on private messages.
4:05 PM - Log back onto SECrant. **** all over several threads which are trying to discuss the SEC preseason favorites, the NFL draft or transfer portal.
4:59 PM - Tell MidJourney AI to generate an image of Elko with Chris Hemsworth's body from Thor. Feel all funny inside. Walk into bathroom with jar of Miracle Whip.
7:26 PM - Emerge from bathroom whistling and sweating.
8:42 PM - DM British consulate on Twitter asking that Taurean York be knighted. Receive immediate reply! It asks if Taurean belongs to a recognized line of descent of the House of York and what his ancestor's royal title was. Reply back telling the Limeys to go f**k themselves. Add Britain to tu sphere of influence on world map.
9:07 PM - More sobbing.
9:28 PM - Sobbing, but now also muttering. Now in fetal position.
9:48 PM - Listen to Alan Jackson song "It Must Be Love" over and over on Spotify. God, that's exactly what it's like. Alan Jackson is so wise.
10:27 PM - Watch First Take on ESiPN. No mention of Elko. What a joke!
10:45PM - Watch Lifetime channel movie A Confederate and a Good Ag: The True Story of Sul Ross.
Inspired, you begin work on a script for the Mike Elko story. Begins with opening scene of Sark selling his soul to Lucifer while Elko leads the Aggies to the 2025 National Championship. Script ends with Elko walking into your parents' basement, picking you up in your overalls and senior boots and carrying you out while Quinn Ewers claps and says, "Way to go Mikey.....way to go."
Email completed script addressed to Who It May Concern to Universal Studios in Hollywood.
1:43 AM - Start making list of how Taylor Swift and the liberal-controlled deep state have wronged you.
1:58 AM - Go to bed. Place maroon leather A&M cowboy hat on head while avoiding dental halo. Rustle legs under blankets causing static sparks and pretend that you have superpowers.
Sleep - Dream of Elko. Always.

Xavier Worthy now has an exhibit at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton!
QuoteXavier Worthy cemented himself as the fastest recorded player in the NFL after his 4.21-second 40-yard dash during the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. After breaking the record on Saturday, March 2, while participating alongside 320 other prospects in preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy sent his tank top-style jersey and shoes he wore to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. These are the first artifacts the Hall of Fame has ever collected that were used by a prospect at the NFL Combine.
A wide receiver out of the University of Texas, Worthy broke fellow wide receiver John Ross III’s record of 4.22 seconds from 2017. “I definitely knew I had a chance. I didn't know it was going to happen in reality,” he said in an interview. “I came in knowing I was going to run nothing slower than 4.25." After his first attempt clocked in at 4.25, Worthy stepped up to attempt the 40-yard dash a second time because he knew a second try would result in a better time.
“When I was training, I always ran faster on my second 40,” Worthy said. In the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy was selected with the 28th overall pick by the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Worthy’s jersey and shoes from the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine are now featured in the Hall of Fame’s “Pro Football Today Gallery.”

I was thinking Shedeur was a lock, but it’s interesting that he has yet to post the “I’m in the game” advertisement. I’m wondering if it comes out eventually that the Sanders family pulled the same move as the Mannings and opted out. Either that or EA is planning some big splash when they reveal him. Travis Hunter and Ewers/Beck/Milroe all posted it FWIW.
Saw Ewers, Hunter, and Donovan Edwards getting some traction in the Reddit comments and thought it was a solid guess.
If anyone from Colorado deserves a cover it's Travis Hunter. But Sanders has the more marketable last name, unfortunately.
The fact that they're doing just one player per P4 conference probably screws Ewers. Despite winning the Big 12 title he won't get to be the Big 12's pick because of our SEC move, while the SEC's pick will probably be someone from their conference title game (Milroe or Beck).

Any chance Ewers is a cover athlete? There will be multiple cover athletes but just one QB, so Ewers will have to beat out Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe and Carson Beck for the cover spot.
Matt Brown: Here's what I know about the EA Sports College Football 25 cover athletes
QuoteI’ve previously reported that EA Sports College Football 25 is tentatively scheduled to come out on July 19, with a “full reveal” from EA Sports coming in May. While previous reporting (from myself and other reporters) has mostly focused on licensing, assets, and intellectual property, I’m told that the company plans to provide additional gameplay and feature information in their May update.
One of those details the company plans to release in May? Who is going to be on the cover of the game. I’ve been making calls of my own, and I can share some details to help everybody narrow their guesses a bit, thanks to multiple conversations I’ve had with multiple individuals with direct familiarity with EA’s cover choices. I can share that:
- There are multiple cover athletes, since EA is releasing multiple versions of the video game.
- Each cover athlete is a current college football player who plays in a different power conference. There was plenty of internet speculation that the cover athlete could potentially be a coach (Nick Saban?), or any number of athletes that played during the years the game was not released (previous Heisman winners?) or even fans/mascots (the Oregon Duck?!?). Those were reasonable guesses, but I’ve been told that the athletes will be current athletes…people you will see play actual college football this season.
- The athletes all play different positions. That means there’s only one quarterback, one running back, etc.
Happy guessing!

Slow Down by Kohei Saito, Japanese wannabe Karl Marx. He thinks we in the Global North should all feel terribly guilty for our gluttonously destructive and imperialist lives that exploit all the sufferers in the Global South; and that as a result capitalism should be dismantled and replaced with communism. Guess he forgot to ask China.
Saito is a proponent of "degrowth", which to put it delicately, is the modern-day equivalent of Malthusianism. Even Marx supported communism because he thought it would accelerate growth, not stop it. https://www.noahpinion.blog/p/people-are-realizing-that-degrowth
Anyway, I recently picked up Lords of the Deccan at a book sale. It's a compelling and engaging history of South India, covering the 6th century to the 12th century. During this time period, South India was primarily ruled by three dynasties - the Chalukya dynasty of Badami, the Rashtrakuta dynasty of Manyakheta, and the Chola dynasty of Thanjavur - interspersed by periods of war and conflict between many smaller kingdoms.

Zero Nebraska players drafted, for the second time in five years 😁
QuoteSeven straight losing seasons can take its toll, and, for the second time in five years, Nebraska football did not have a former player selected in the NFL Draft. Seven rounds passed over Thursday, Friday and Saturday without a team calling the name of a Husker. Safety Omar Brown was projected by some mock NFL Drafts to go in the 6th or 7th round, but he, like the rest of his former teammates, will have to sign NFL free agent deals.
It’s the first time since 2019 and only the second time in more than 60 years — that a Husker hasn’t been picked in the NFL Draft. In 2019, Nebraska was also coming off the first of a new coach — Scott Frost at the time.

Sure. But, the reason why the perception lasts is that OU and others gleefully repeat it, and Longhorns sorrowfully admit that our forebears fell short and share our regret. The truth is-OU may have been a little better in some areas, and worse in others, and if Texas needs to apologize to anyone it sure isn’t the Sooners.
The 1956 USC vs. Texas game made Texas a much more visible national flashpoint for integration issues.
