  1. Brian Dohn: "Inside a Texas Crystal Ball Pick"

    Spoiler

Texas wants offensive line help in the transfer portal, and the Longhorns may be getting it.

Minnesota transfer Curtis Dunlap, who signed with the Golden Gophers in the 2018 class, has had a bunch of contact with the Longhorns, who sit in the best shape.

So much so I submitted a Crystal Ball pick for the Longhorns to land Dunlap.

He made an official visit to Rutgers at the end of the season and he was slated to make official visits to Texas and Vanderbilt.

The 6-foot-5, 340-pound Dunlap went into the NCAA transfer portal in October after seeing plenty of playing time in the first month of the season.

He started the first three games for Minnesota, and playing significant snaps in the net two.

Dunlap missed the 2020 season with an injury, but he made 12 starts in 2019.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Yes, he is a good OC and his history as a HC is long enough and shitty enough now we know who he is and he LOST TO FUCKING KANSAS AT HOME. You dont get my post?

We get it. It's just fucking non-sensical from the get-go, so we're trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. Ewers isn't coming here for Venables. He'd be coming here for that offense and QB development. Apologies for responding. I'll let you get back to your unique thought. Tell us more about this past season. Any idea how we did against Kansas?

    OV

    • WR Savion Red - Grand Prairie
    • CB Xavion Brice - Arlington Seguin

    UOV

    • CB Jaylon Guilbeau - Port Arthur Memorial
    • K Will Stone - Austin Regents
    • QB Quinn Ewers - Ohio State by way of Southlake
    • WR Brenen Thompson - Spearman

    • EDGE Derrick Brown - Texarkana Texas High
    • WR Johntay Cook - DeSoto (maybe)

I like seeing Cook in here. Seems like he's been wanting to commit, but needs a QB reason. Hopefully Ewers gives it to him and he can start putting that package together with Owens and Arch.

Can we put Sark into the portal and pick someone else up in case we get QE?

Are you concerned about the offense with Sark having Ewers? I think Sark is probably one of the better selling points to get Ewers. I'm not a Sark apologist, but even CTJ said that he would be willing to give Sark a pass on last year if we got Ewers and closed on some other prospects that seem realistic if Ewers comes here.

I am technically a t-shirt fan by definition (username and all).

We are all on the same team and want the same thing but I personally think a change.com petition weird/pathetic at worst, and just completely ineffective at best.

How many signatures do we need for QE to say "Oh gee, my concerns were silly.  These guys took the time to sign a 3 second petition.  They will totally have my back 110%, no matter what happens"

I don't think anyone is really concerned about what you think the best/worst case scenarios are here and that's obviously not the best case scenario. The might be your best guess at most likely, but the best case scenario is that it does exactly what the fuck we were told it might do, so keep your weird principled stance to yourself. Sign it with a fake name to maintain your honor (we won't even tell anyone you did) or just shut the fuck up.

Legitimately sign this petition and share it to every single person you know. This means more than you think, if you want to do something real and substantial sign this and pass it around. It will get in front of the Ewers camp

Pin it to the top of the boards with a banner and telling people to sign this? Given the tight timeframe, that's best case scenario. People that post on the 9.95ers should make a thread with this too then.

  7. For those concerned about this possibly leading to the end of college athletics, I think it would be more likely to get there if we didn't find a way to pay the players. Look at what has already started happening in basketball. Recruits are going overseas or to the G-League instead of just going to college for one year. It would take a lot of maneuvering (and I have to think there have already been discussions about it), but what's to stop some people with deep pockets from trying to do the same thing with football for 18-22 year olds? Only a matter of time without being able to pay them.

No. He apparently wants to come home. There are like 3 choices- 1 of whom doesn’t want him (aggy) bc they have a full room, 1 of which is the retarded half brother that lives in a hovel and is a no account moron and us. It seems possible that if he chooses option 2 it’s bc Sark was so terrible this year it made option 2 look more palatable than us.

Why wouldn't he just go to TCU if he was so homesick? Better coaching, NIL opportunities, very close to home, etc.

And the only reason he would be “just going to tech” would be if he thinks our program and coaching staff is a ducking joke.

He would still go somewhere else if he was doing this with an open mind. My point was that there are any number of better situations than Tech, not just Texas, so if he really choose Tech, he was going there all along.

  10. I have no doubt that Sark's end will come soon enough if we don't land Ewers or perform other significant portal magic, but I don't know how much blame I can put on the staff if Ewers goes to Tech. It's not like Ewers' only options would be Tech and Texas and he went into this decision with an open mind and thought Tech was the best fit. His decisions are Tech, Texas and probably 50 other Power 5 programs, so if he really lands on Tech, this has nothing to do with being homesick (would go to TCU for all better things than Tech), NIL (come on), coaching (Maguire and TBD OC?), playing time (I'm sure he's read about our QB situation) or whatever. He was just going to Tech.

Ewers, Campbell, Banks, Agbo, Stewart and Perkins.  Close with that, get another OL, LB & WR in the portal and we will be sitting pretty.
Oh, and add Gary Patterson to the staff.

I still think Perkins is going aggy regardless, but if we get that, we probably get Dewberry and possibly get back in the game for Harris.

Jeff Howe posted this in response to a question on how many portal players you can take. Does this mean we could actually take more than 8 portal players as long as they're replacing outgoing transfers? For this cycle only.

You can take as many as you want.

What the NCAA is allowing teams to do in this cycle only is any player who enters the portal after Dec. 15 or the end of the fall semester, whichever comes first, can be replaced with another counter.

Does that mean all the people entering the portal right now can't be "replaced" by an incoming transferee? That's what his wording sounds like, but that just seems to incentive schools to lie to kids until Dec. 15 so that they can be replaced?
