It's also worth noting that many of these fires are man made. This is a pretty well-sourced comment that I'm shamelessly stealing and reposting here, but basically the Brazilian government promoted a "fire day" to clear land and show support for relaxing environmental regulations.

I really recommend checking out the first article in the post and translating from portugese in your browser to read. Some of the more interesting datapoints are that a significant number of fires are originating from highways, according to satellite imagery. Real fucked up situation, burning your country down is a really dumb political statement.

I haven't been to a Holiday Inn Express in years, but this seems like a really dumb strategy.

  2. Yep, agree with staying on North shore. And the road is open but they're trying to limit traffic so you need reservations now.

Edit: to clarify, reservations are if you want to go to or park at the State Park/Ke'e Beach.

  3. Have been to both the Westin and the Kauai Marriott. Both are great. Going to the island again on September 28. Haven't been in the Sheraton but in my experience the Sheratons are cheaper for a good reason. Where to stay is dependent upon what you plan to do. I prefer the Princeville area because of the Hanalei area so generally stay there. The area north of Hanalei was washed out by the floods last time I was there, though. The Marriott in Lihue has a nice beach if you're into that and is closer to Poipu and the rest of the island.

it's one less step.  i like salmon cream cheese from einsteins.

cousin makes everything in house (bagels, salmon, and pastrami, in particular) except the cream cheese.  everyone buys in cream cheese.

How can I learn to make salmon, too? Sounds time consuming.

It wasn't a battalion, it was a company...at most.  Flying separately from myriad airports in Asia and Europe gets them here undetected.  They smuggle their uniforms and weapons by boat from Cuba.  They use steel and power from Hawkins.  The dirt excavated I guess gets blended in with all the earthmoving from Starcourt Mall, they pulled an Andy DuFrain.  I also imagine they used several sleeper agents in the Midwest that were activated years prior to start getting the logistics in order for a construction project of this magnitude.

Don't forget hiring Gus Fring's engineering crew.

Essential oils keep police officers from being shot? Well, I guess it makes sense. I've never heard of a violent crime scene that reeked of patchouli.
