  1. The promoters/organizers are screwed.  Not NRG, not the city, and not the county.  HPD and HFD responded appropriately and quickly.  This was not a city/county event.  There were expectations for security and crowd control and attendance that were agreed to and then ignored by the organizers.  Their biggest issue right now is proving to their underwriters that they were within the scope of the policy.  Cue Morgan Freeman saying, "they weren't".

This was fully preventable.  The organizers chose to ignore the issues.  And I know one of the casualties.

In chronological order, best playoff Astros performances in my mind:

Mike Scott(x2), Backe, Oswalt NLCS clincher, Verlander 2017 ALCS game 2, Framberlamps.

Scott in ‘86 is the best.  Mets knew if they lost game 6 that they were losing game 7.

What Framber did tonight was ridiculous.  Perfect through 4 at Fenway does not happen.

  3. Framber just had one of the most dominant performance I have ever seen in a postseason.

As far as Red Sox and Fenway, well...  Worked up there and the company I worked for had a suite that I luckily got tickets to.  Field is nice.  Stadium is a shithole.  Fans are aggies.

And to phrase this with a specific question, can you name a coach -- NFL, NBA, college football, or college hoops -- who excelled as both a player and a coach?  I'm sure you might name a few, but I can't think of one off hand, and most of the greats we think of in terms of championships -- Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Bill Bilicheck, Nick Saban, Bill Walsh -- had mediocre playing days at best.

  5. Gallant Knight was a house on Holcombe for years. Moved to where Timberwolf was on Bissonnet & Kirby (both places were great and safe).  My older brother was in town for the first time in a while and I took him to Timberwolf (he’d never been).  We walked in and the dwarf came out of the bathroom on rollerblades and skated to the bar.  My brother looked at me and said “well, it can only go downhill from here.”

Someone mentioned Vintage (on Kipling), that place was a shithole.  Ask Huge.

Better question is who remembers Birraporetti’s on West Gray?

Hops House on Hwy 6 used to be amazing, as was Big John’s Icehouse (at least in high school).  I was served the last Lone Star at Kay’s (/csb).  And TK Bitterman’s will always have a place in my heart.

Crider's Rodeo and Dancehall Saturday night... cover charge for each...or...the following Friday night back at Crider's early for Catfish.

The Hunt Store has been having live music weekend nights... the cafe and store are being run by King's Smokehouse, and they do a decent job, just takes a while...and camp opening/closing days can be brutal.

Bridget's Basket for dinner in Hunt...call ahead for reservations...lots of locals to deal with...

Dinner in Kerrville at Grape Juice...(owner Patrick was a wine rep, and is a knowledgeable/fun guy)...kitchen is consistent with apps/salads/entrees with a nightly special, and lots of beers on tap...lots of reasonable wine choices...call early for reservation or be shut out...again lots of locals as well as our out of town friends.

Pint and Plow also good for a few locally brewed beers.

Buddy Henderson's BBQ in Hunt...past Camp Waldemar @ Quinn Ranch Crossing for lunch on Saturday...decent until he runs out.

There's also the Ingram Dam for some water sliding action if you are so inclined.

Also of note, the river trails in Kerrville have really been improved, and are a great place to jog/walk/bike early mornings/evenings.

    Pretty much this.

To me a visit to Hunt isn’t complete without The Hunt Store, Crider’s, and sliding down Ingram Dam.

A buddy recently retired there, and he has had good things to say about the Southern Sky Music Cafe in Ingram.  Apparently they are getting some good musicians to come through.

If you are picking up girls, you can always make the trip over to James Avery (if that is still a thing).  That was always my least favorite part when we picked up my sister.

This is timely. Not saying you didn’t have a great meal, but one of my brothers texted me on Thursday saying he had Pinkerton’s and thought the quality was down. Interesting the many opinions on this spot.

This past Thursday?  Have to disagree, and if he has a bone to pick, ok.  But the brisket and ribs were on point Thursday.

  8. Pinkerton’s is back to consistently great.  Very short quality drop off due to San Antonio, but that has been corrected.  Plus the bar can’t be beat.  And still waiting for Swayze to be here when I am...
