  1. Posting because this was kind of unusual in.. not 'posta happen.

Last night's version of strong storms which have essentially been parked all week along a frontal boundary straddling TX/OK border running NE into AR, MO and IA set off a strong outflow boundary (a buncha cold air pushing down the storms and out, i.e. S/SW towards us) which like a blowdryer simply pushed all the unstable, smoky, muggy air outta CenTex and replaced it with dry air. It kicked up some storms but not nearly the activity that it could have... I think one reason is that the boundary whooshed by so fast (it kinda took on a life of its own rolling down the state) that storms simply didn't have much of a chance to build - at least here (east of us there was a larger chunk of Gulf stanky moist air, and the boundary wasn't as fast-moving there and had time to kick up some mess).

Once the wind started whooshing by me at 40 mph I knew something was weird... it was supposed to be muggy most of the day, but suddenly it's 83° and sunny (after a brief light shower). I wasn't expecting a strong front coming in, but that's pretty much what happened... this outflow boundary got so much punch it essentially acted like a major front. Simply pushed out all the muggy air and the atmosphere got much more stable (and capped). Definitely not the way this afternoon was supposed to look (but I'll take it).

As a result, the severe weather forecast for most of CenTex has been downgraded - the atmosphere is nowhere nearly as unstable this morning. However, the heat of the day combined with storms forming N of us and moving S is still a possibility. However, most of the worst is now forecast to be NE of the Austin area. Chances are good that no rain will come out of this for many in ATX, more likely the farther E/NE you live from Austin.

Frankly I'll take it. I know rain is a precious commodity right now, but the severe setup for this evening wasn't very reassuring - good chance of very strong winds, a few tornadoes, and hail in a good part of the are (3 out of 5 "enhanced" risk). Now it's 2 out of 5, which basically means less chance over your house in particular. It could still throw a severe storm or 2 in the area, but a 2 is a lot less worrisome than a 3. Also, some good chances of rain all week so not completely hopeless.

Just thought this was worth it, since we got something that was not forecast at all, and completely turned the day around weatherwise, FWIW.

No idea. Was not in the article. Vote is this week. Kyle City Manager is on record saying we don't have a water problem in San Marcos. To hell we don't.

Kyle already pulls from here and from Canyon Lake, which was stated above as being low as well as the highland lakes.

Yeah, we have water problems all over the area.  Doesn't San Marcos pull from Canyon lake as well?  So same straw different meter.

There are a significant amount of people using ridiculous amounts of water.  In my area there are a number of houses using 40k gallons a month.  Water is a vital and limited resource and folks don't understand it just doesn't come out of the tap or sprinkler head via magic.  It is going to take everyone conserving to ensure we have water to drink over the next decade.

  3. Kyle is asking San Marcos for 450,000 more gallons a day. Not sure where San Marcos will get it.
I guess rapid growth, green lawns, new builds and other shit has an impact on water needs.

I wonder how many water taps that is for. That’s about what my area of 1000 homes uses a day…which is ridiculous.
  4. Yep. I believe we are close to 100,000 acre feet added in the last week.  That takes us over the 900k acre ft that requires LCRA customers to go to Stage 2 restrictions.  That being said, to go back to Stage 1 restrictions the lakes need to be at 1.1 million and inflows need to be flowing.  The rain last weekend did a lot and will possibly help the area from going to stage 4 later in the summer.

He'll be at McCallum.  It's not bad, but it's not Westlake or Westwood.

There's a young lawyer at my law firm who went to the Kealing magnet for middle school, and he would have gone to LASA, but UT had just implemented the Top 10% rule, and his dad told him he needed to go to Austin High.  Good decision in the long run.

I have heard of kids going to Bowie the first couple of years and then transferring to Crocket to get into the top 10% or 6.5%....whatever UT is requiring these days.

  6. If that number is correct, Samsung consumes 2,438,050,700,000 gallons per year, or 7,482,104 acre ft. / year.  For reference, Lake Travis at full is 1.1M acre ft.  So Samsung consumes nearly 7 FULL Lake Travises annually?!

You have an extra 3 zeros on the end

    ~325,000 gallons to acre foot

    So around 7500 acre feet.

    Still a lot of water.
  7. So who ordered the dean of students message yesterday if Hartzell didn’t have anything to do with this?

If he is just being told what to do and doesn’t agree with it then burn the house down.

  8. Can’t find the original though which is making me skeptical.

Yeah, looks like she is a professor at UT. Just wanted to make sure before I sent it to others.

    I hope it is real

I thought the DCC was still open.  Are you referring to DDCE?  Because yeah, that's being shut down.  Their last event is the Tower Awards deal in a couple weeks.  Our Subiendo program is still on pins and needles to see if we survive.  We're green-lit for this summer's academy.  But after that is a total crapshoot.

Yeah typing to fast and left the E off.  Yes they are still open, but they are gone as of July 1st.

I'm not on any platforms, but is there any chatter from any official UT social media about this shit?

UT Comms has gone dark for awhile, especially internally.  Ever since the closing of the DCC.

International Office went to appointment only. When I got my photo taken in January, I booked my appointment 15 minutes before. I cannot speak to the PO. I assume you are likely correct.

Yep, there are plenty appointments for tomorrow.  They also changed their name to Texas Global 5 years ago, so if you look for the international office you may not find it.

Wait…you’re not supposed to drink coffee after a colonoscopy? For how long?
Cuz I’m pretty sure I had some the next day. Nobody told me otherwise.

Yeah, I was not aware.  Had a cup about 45min after my procedure last Friday and no issues.

  14. Had mine done last Friday.  Family history of polyps, so they wanted me to get one done at 45, although I am hearing they are now saying all 45 yr old's need them.  Fasting wasn't that hard, but the prep had me in the bathroom all night.  Procedure was at 7:30am, so I got home slept some and then watched March Madness.

They did remove 3 polyps and I will get the result within the next week or so, but doc wasn't concerned.  Probably on a 3-5yr checkup timeline due to family history.  I did come out of the sleep asking for Jameson and brisket, so I prolly need to rethink how much I drink.

My wife did consider divorcing me due to the sounds that were coming out of the bathroom.

Went to a bday party that night for a friend.  Ate a lot of brisket and had a beer(apparently not supposed to drink for 24 hrs).
