Also, anybody want to fight Joe Pyfer?  Christ.

He's the guy that measured a heavier punch than Ngannou? Well shit, I picked a bad time to be a few minutes behind.

Holy shit, Dan Ige is stepping in for Brian Ortega on a few hours notice.

He was training for his own fight, so he's in shape, but he hasn't been training to fight Lopes, who is dangerous as fuck.

Massive props to Ige for saving a big chunk of the card.

Cool text message from Ige basically saying don't take this away from me.

"Hey Hunter, I've been in camp for 3 months. I'm the healthiest I've ever been, I can fight this guy tonight and beat him. This is what legends are made of.  I'm in I'm ready. I'm in great shape.

Please don't take this opportunity away from me 🙏"

    Sincerely, Dan Fucking Ige

  3. Israel is offering a pause only. Both sides have trouble with the gray area language defining the progress of negotiations in regards to the next phases. Both sides feel like they could be left out to dry. And Israel has the problem of its far-right flank saying they will upend the Netnyahu governing coalition if he dares accept this deal. It's not really as black and white as some people would like to think.

  4. Hard to tell other than a canceled Dublin press conference that Dana and Chandler were flying out to the day after 302. Ariel H. made it sound like they didn't get on the plane. McGregor tweeted an apology stating something about hurdles outside of their control. Ariel might have earlier hinted about something, but in the interview I saw with Demetrious Johnson that it wasn't the obvious reasons like more money, drugs, and I think injury. So don't know.

Pretty sure that this is physically impossible, but is there any chance that a medical condition could cause one's BAC to be elevated to extreme levels without consuming alcohol? I was a BLS responder on a corporate response team for many years and witnessed Px going through diabetic ketoacidosis, but that wasn't a sustainable state (they either improved w/ treatment or continued to plummet w/ their glucose levels).

BIL  has had several bizarre experiences the past 3-4 months, including 2 hospital stays. His latest was yesterday when his wife found him stumbling into walls and speaking gibberish. She took him to the ER where they initially focused on his kidney values (he has some family history/underlying issues). His BAC was .24 after his second blood draw. His glucose was also elevated. His wife thinks he's developed type 2 diabetes (runs in his family; his younger brother died due to complications of it plus kidney disease). He's never been shy about his love of beer and bourbon, but he claims he hadn't had anything to drink on Saturday prior to his incident & hospital trip. That's almost certainly not true, but even if he did drink something is it possible his body would amplify the effects to the point that his BAC would read 3X the legal limit?

Very rare Auto-Brewery Syndrome caused by several risk factors, antibiotics, and yeast fungi

Her breath reeked of alcohol. She was dizzy, disoriented and weak, so much so that one day she passed out and hit her head on a kitchen counter while making lunch for her school-age children.

Yet not a drop of liquor had passed her lips, a fact that the 50-year-old Toronto woman and her husband told doctors for two years before someone actually believed her.

    Spoiler

“I know of over 300 people diagnosed with auto-brewery syndrome and we have over 800 patients and caregivers in our private Facebook support group,” said Cordell, who was not involved in the new case.

“Part of the mystery of this syndrome is how these people can have these extremely high levels and still be walking around and talking.”

    ...

Auto-brewery syndrome, also known as gut fermentation syndrome, is an extremely rare condition in which bacteria and fungus in the gastrointestinal tract turn the carbohydrates in everyday food into ethanol. The first known case occurred in 1946 in Africa, when a 5-year-old boy’s stomach ruptured for no known reason. An autopsy found his abdomen filled with a “frothy” fluid smelling of alcohol.

    ...

Auto brewery syndrome occurs when certain species of bacteria and fungi overpopulate a person’s gut microbiome, basically turning the gastrointestinal tract into a still apparatus.

Scientists believe the process takes place in the small bowel and is vastly different from the normal gut fermentation in the large bowel that gives our bodies energy.

While a number of pathogens can contribute, most cases are due to an overgrowth of two species of fungi: Saccharomyces and Candida. Candida lives on the body and in the mouth, digestive tract and vagina, often taking over when more beneficial bacteria are killed off by a round or two of antibiotics.

    ...

There are risk factors for auto-brewery syndrome. Diabetes and liver disease can play a role as can gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and short gut syndrome, in which the small intestine is damaged or shortened, Zewude said. There may even be a genetic predisposition connected to how well a person metabolizes alcohol.

“But all of these things have to collide at the perfect time,” she said. “It requires multiple risk factors interacting and creating a metabolic storm for this syndrome to emerge in an individual.”

    ...

In addition to killing off the yeast, patients are expected to follow an extremely restricted low-carb diet. “No carbs would be best, but it’s almost impossible to do that,” Zewude said. Probiotics to build back beneficial bacteria can also help, she said.

NPR had a former prosecutor on a few days ago. He said a fairly compelling argument could be made that the law cited to turn the misdemeanors into felonies was a tenuous connection at best. NPR is not wont to give airtime to shills, so I assume the guy was legit.

I was only partly paying attention. I don’t know if he was saying that was the tack trump’s lawyers should have taken with their case to the jury, or if it is a potential avenue for appeal

Yes, this is the most controversial part of the case and the fact that federal prosecutors chose not to prosecute the election fraud charges the state of New York leveraged. But the tactic his lawyers should have taken was that he paid off Daniels because of the harm that it would cause his family and marriage. But Trump only knows one way.

  7. Kind of a typical Sean Strickland win. I did like the eventually emulation of the 'Johnny Come Marching' of the fake teep kick with every single step forward once he decided that he was done eating calf kicks. That use of the right leg to cross check a kick was beautiful.

  8. This would be a devastating setback for Strickland if he can't pull this off. I think 3 rounds is a disadvantage.

Disregard the 3 rounds, someone misspoke earlier this week.

Poirier needs to retire after this fight. Watching him in an interview he's looking punchy and having some speech patterns altered from previous interviews back during the McGregor fights. Already irreversible damage done but if he gets out now he can hopefully mitigate it.

I haven't really noticed that, but the last run retiring rhetoric seems off. He also just defeated one of the most dangerous up and comers in his division to be in this position. In this fight he's going to need to take a lesson from Volkanovski to ride out the on the back position and get deeper into the fight. Else, gonna have to stun him well timed strikes.
