  1. Yup, sounds like it’s just sorting the details of the add-ons. Hopefully sooner rather than later and I hope Newcastle can get Sesko through the door to expedite Isak. That announcement in the Adidas kit will hit like crack. A CB (or two, preferably) and malleable winger profile (Fofana, perhaps) + offloading Nunez, Chiesa, and Elliott would likely complete the window.
  2. Yeah, the transition defense was comical but it was a rag-tag squad out there at key positions. Some really good possession sequences against a low block even though it resulted in us getting torn apart on the counters. Good thing Gravenberch won’t be playing RCB, Stephenson won’t be playing RB, and Tsimikas won’t be playing LCB in an actual match.
  3. No Díaz or Nunez in the squad at all after traveling and training…those must be far along. Gomez sent home to Liverpool with Achilles injury. We probably need to buy 2 CBs because you cannot count on his health whatsoever.
  4. Ornstein confirms…all the smoke points to us putting in a bid if Newcastle is willing to play ball. Would be extreme succession planning for Salah and we’d likely really need to expedite exits for Díaz, Nunez, Elliott, etc. If they actually tried for this, then the winger position becomes a little odd with Gakpo as the only senior-level left winger in the squad.
  5. Isak has told Newcastle he wants to leave. Surely we couldn’t…could we?
  6. No doubt there’s a complex pathway to first-team football in France, although to think that a player with 44 senior-level club goals in his career can be our (third-highest?) record signing! The market is just crazy; I’m just glad FSG is opening up their wallet to give Slot what he wants.
  7. It’s a lot of money for a guy who doesn’t even have a single senior cap for France yet, but… He looks to have an incredible ceiling; his technicality/ball skills are insane for a guy of his size and he looks to have good link-up play and vision which will do wonders for this team under Slot. At this point, I’m not doubting Edwards’ supercomputer (and Hughes, by extension).
  8. Part of me doesn’t even want to buy another winger just to keep a spot open for Rio…but he’s still probably 1-2 years away realistically. Nyoni, similarly, is a stud…he seems like someone who can be a backup #6 and get Grav some rest at the end of games. He’s so smooth on the ball.
  9. And the extended for those who want more:
  10. Highlights from the match today…Wirtz and Frimpong will do just fine, thanks!
  11. Díaz not in the squad today. I think he’s on the move shortly. Could imagine Liverpool still buying two more forward / winger-profiles if Nunez and Chiesa are also off.
  12. The leverage play by Hughes/Edwards here is fascinating. If Isak is committed to a possible extension, then I see no reason for them to entertain us & they’d be fine to let us end up with Ekitike. If Isak is not committed long-term and has wandering eyes for clubs with larger ambitions, then I feel like the rational thing to do is sell Isak at his peak value now and then sign up Ekitike to a 6-7 year deal as his replacement? Isak’s value is only going to depreciate in the next 1-2 years as it comes due… The only risk that we’re taking here is that Ekitike feels spurned that we’re clearly publicly announcing him as a second fiddle priority. But if it comes down to us vs. Newcastle for his signature, I’m hard-pressed to believe he wouldn’t want to sign up to play for the PL Champions as their first-team striker with Wirtz and Salah feeding him…the alternative is being second striker to Isak.
  13. He’s really incredible on the ball and a great one-on-one defender/duelist. Likely weaker in the air than Konaté, but 100% worth the price tag and would provide insulation for us if Konaté doesn’t plan to sign an extension. Also gives us a super intriguing opportunity to run 3 at the back in certain instances with Frimpong and/or Kerkez pushed higher up!
  14. I thought this movie was quite bad outside of the two SPECTACULAR set pieces (submarine + airplane sequences). Every bit of dialogue is just so serious and overdramatized that there’s just not a lot of fun to be had in the character interactions like there used to be. The best part of the MI formula (outside of the insane stunt work) is Ethan’s chemistry and banter with his team as they try to execute their various schemes. This one is entirely lacking in that respect. The first hour is an absolute slog of convoluted plot-dump, too.
