  1. Not sure there’s somebody outside of Fabio who might meet the criteria. Ironically, Fekir would be a perfect MF these days. He would have killed it for us had his agent not screwed everything up.
  2. Every team we play is more than happy to be organized and compact and funnel everything to the wings. Elliott has been a bright spot today in MF, but we’re running into a lot of the same issues. We really need someone on the ball who can drive forward in the middle of the field to suck defenders out and create space behind. Our midfield basically looks to pass (mostly sideways) as soon as they receive the ball and it makes the attack predictable.
  3. It’s hard to believe Naby would be left out of the squad without a knock. Tried half-heartedly on Twitter to find something, but didn’t see anything. Our biggest issue with this standard MF we run is that there’s no ball carrier and there’s no pace. Fab is 28, Thiago is 31, and Hendo is 32 and it shows against teams that organize a rampant press. We don’t really have a way to progress the ball through dribbling (like Coutinho used to do…) whereas teams like City have players like KDB, Bernardo, Grealish, Foden, etc. who all generally excel on the ball. We really need somebody who can take on defenders and suck attention away from the forward line for a final pass. It also seems obvious that Henderson’s best role is as a 6, but that’s Fab’s position so we’re forcing him through as an 8. He’s just so slow now and seems to freak out and hoof the ball under any pressure.
  4. Please go out and buy a midfielder. You might as well throw in the towel on the league if you don’t. If it’s a hammy, Thiago is out for multiple matches. Henderson is way past it. Keita wasn’t even in the squad today; Ox is hurt. Just not enough difference makers at the position.
  5. This is fucking embarrassing. I can’t remember a time we looked worse.

  7. He played in the US Open. He lost to Medvedev.
  8. I loathe Djokovic (his beliefs, his personality, his style of play) but Nick is such a disgrace, man. Absolute clown who wilts at the slightest signs of pressure and spends more time verbally abusing his team, the umpire, and line judges than he does playing tennis.
  9. Sick to my stomach for Rafa. 19-0 in Grand Slam matches this year and can’t go for the calendar slam due to a fluke abdominal tear. He was never the favorite over Djokovic on grass but he would have had a puncher’s chance if he were healthy.
  10. He’s radiated nothing but positivity off the back of his recent nerve treatment regarding the pain in his foot, so I don’t know how you could draw that conclusion. He looked good in his warmup matches at Hurlingham, too. I’d be surprised if he didn’t play every slam in 2023 (pending a new injury) even with a kid on the way. He does not want to concede the slam race to Novak.
  11. We can’t hit fucking fastballs, man. This team is lost.
  12. alright, this one is over. I’ve seen enough from this dogshit 3-4-5
  13. That was a solid pitch; their hitters are just better than ours when their backs are against the wall
  14. holy shit, we cannot hit when it matters
  15. Leaving everything up in the zone…
  16. That’s a good piece of hitting there; make this guy work.
  17. We’re really gonna fucking blow this golden opportunity with the heart of the lineup, huh? Good god.
  18. you keep the moral victories; 0 XBH in 29 ABs tonight and 8 baserunners in 8 IP for a team that had the 4th highest slugging % in baseball this year is an underwhelming feat
  19. Is 6 hits in 8 innings supposed to win you games in Omaha?
  20. The bats are dead tonight. It feels like every count starts 0-2
  21. Firmino is beyond useless at this stage.
  22. Keita/Fab/Thiago is our best midfield; just unfortunate that two of those guys have been so injury prone. Thiago magnificent on the ball while Keita was a pressing menace who completely shut down Silva while he was on the field. The trajectory of the game changed when Keita was taken off and then again when Thiago was taken off. Mané was immaculate and Mo was (again) poor in front of goal. You hope and pray he returns to form when it really matters…I’d probably sit him against Man U and give Firmino/Diaz/Mané a run with Jota as a super sub.
  23. Absolute shame we don’t get to see Barty and Iga battle for the biggest titles for the next 2-3 years…
