Israel

22 minutes ago, 956 Worldwide said:Hard to tell depending who took over, but hopefully there’d be fewer Palestinians killed at hospitals by Palestinian rockets.
One thing that’s wild about this hospital thing is that the rocket was designed and launched with the express purpose of killing civilians but people got really upset only after it killed the WRONG civilians.
Actually, we have an example: the West Bank. No Hamas in control there, just the Palestinian Authority, which denounces terrorism and recognizes the right of Israel to exist.
How does Israel treat the Palestinians under their control there?

If Hamas was gone tomorrow, what would Gaza look like?

Terrorists - even more so these terrorists - can’t be at the table to negotiate, they can’t have power and they can’t have military capability they have to be gone. Unfortunately these terrorists are wedged in the middle and until they are gone it’s unrealistic to ask Israel to take the first step to stop. Terrorists gotta go, first.
You clearly think the only roadblock to peace is Israel laying down arms and oppression and that as soon as Israel takes a reconciliation approach it will happen but that’s simply untrue.
Is shooting journalists in the head, building settlements, etc necessary for Israel to fight terrorism or maybe could they stop doing those things and still fight it? Do they get free pass on all their actions because they are fighting terrorists?

Here's a story for you about how the news industry works.
Earlier tonight, the group that invaded Israel, massacred 1000+ people, burned families to death in their homes, took hostages back to Gaza, and recorded it all with GoPros – this group announced that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, killing hundreds.
Then, instead of waiting for more information from the Israeli side, the editors of the world's most important media outlets said to themselves: "This is enough for us. Let's run with it."
Headlines screamed that Israel bombed a hospital. Push notifications were sent to MILLIONS of people.
CNN push: "Hundreds of people may have been killed in an Israeli strike on a Gaza City hospital, according to the Palestinian health ministry"
BBC push: "Hundreds feared dead or injured in Israeli air strike on hospital in Gaza, Palestinian officials say"
NYT push: "At least 500 people were killed by an Israeli airstrike at a Gaza hospital, the Palestinian Health Ministry said"
Do you see what they did there?
They put the dramatic news in the beginning of the sentence and then they cited the source at the end so that the assertion is technically true. The Palestinian Health Ministry DID say that.
The thing is, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza is a Hamas institution.
What do you call people who amplify Hamas propaganda not just as news, but as the top news story in the world?
There is no way that a professional military such as the Israel Defense Forces can give an instant answer about a catastrophe in enemy territory during a war. It took around two or three hours for the IDF to share the results of its initial investigation – that the explosion at the hospital was a due to a rocket launched by Islamic Jihad that malfunctioned and crashed back into Gaza. More evidence is coming out as I write this.
The sad fact is that it appears that hundreds of Palestinians are dead at a hospital because terrorists in Gaza tried to fire rockets at Israelis and ended up hitting their own people. It's unbearably stupid and tragic.
None of this is new, unfortunately. Journalists in the Middle East know – they absolutely know – that a significant percentage of Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s rockets misfire and crash into residential areas of Gaza.
I've attached a famous example. This video is from May 2022. It shows a live broadcast of a rocket being launched from a residential area of Gaza. The rocket malfunctions, turns sideways, and crashes into the city. The overexcited broadcaster tries to pretend that nothing unusual happened and asks the camera man to turn away. The video went viral at the time. There are other known instances where this happened.
These rockets are designed to kill people. Don't act surprised when they do.
I say all of this to remind you to treat breaking news from Gaza with caution, even if it's unpopular to do so.
And then the irony of this tweet becomes apparent when it turns out the video that the Israeli government is providing as “proof” that it was a Gazan rocket hitting the hotel actually was timestamped 40 minutes after the actual explosion. And it was the same NYT he criticizes that discovered the Israeli propaganda.
It’s almost like we should realize that both sides are putting out disinformation to drive their preferred narrative.- 6

Is this going to end up being a long winded way (with a significant amount of mental masturbation included) for the OP to “prove” that God* exists? If so could he just cut to the chase?
*God = whatever flavor of religion, most likely Christianity, that he favors

Pubs got their talking points, hearing a lot of “National Debt” and “Border Crisis”.
Chickenshit interviewers not mentioning them voting for Trump tax cuts that added a ton to the debt.

That response was killer.
Quote“That proposed remedy is contrary to precedent and—except for the district court ruling reversed in United States v. Messino, 181 F.3d 826 (7th Cir. 1999)—would appear to be unprecedented.…..
Nauta has not identified any case, and the Government is unaware of one, in which a court has excluded evidence to avoid a conflict on facts remotely similar to this case, where the Government put Mr. Woodward on notice long ago about potential conflicts, and he is now seeking to affirmatively use those conflicts to gain a tactical advantage at trial by excluding highly incriminating evidence to the benefit of not only his own client but also a co-defendant (Trump) whose PAC is paying his legal fees.”
IE…try it Eileen and prepare to get benched slapped AGAIN on appeal.

Yea I get the look on the abortion law. The other stuff I’m not as familiar with. The story on the abortion law supposedly is given that North Dakota is about 120% red the leg was going to pass it either way so what good would it do him to veto it and alienate himself. Personally I think the guy is probably pro choice (based on what I’ve heard over the years from people I know who have known him for decades) but he can’t say it, so he calls it a states rights issue. Which makes sense to me.
And look I’m not here trying to change anyones mind. It’s just interesting to me because I’ve never had a personal acquaintance and really good friend of a bunch of my friends run for president before. And at least to me he seems like less of a clown than the rest of the gop, and this is the gop clown show thread right? So he’s actually pro-choice but signs what amounts to a total ban on abortion because he’s beholden to the far right? Way to stand behind your convictions Doug. Great example of leadership, I guess oil billion$ still aren’t enough to buy an actual spine.
Just because the other guys are wearing full on make-up, a wig, floppy shoes, and a flower that squirts water and all Doug has is a big red nose that honks, it doesn’t mean that he’s not a clown.

Looks like I’ll be at the debate next week. Tangentially involved in Doug Burgum’s campaign - bunch of people I know used to work for him, really good people who think the world of him.
Clearly a snowballs chance but he’s a good dude. Actual grown up. Stays completely out of the culture bullshit. Zero right wing alt conspiracy nonsense.
One can hope I guess.
Regardless it will be cool to be at a presidential debate, even though it will clearly be a clown show. The guy who signed a near total ban on abortion, has signed numerous anti-trans laws, banned CRT, and sent the North Dakota national guard to the border stays “completely out of the culture war bullshit”?
He might not like to talk about it, but Id say his actions show that he’s marching lock step with the alt-right.

I wish Jon would have asked him how much money Crowe had given him or if he had paid for his kids’ private school.
The “I supported him until election night” was infuriating. Trump is the exact same person today that he was in 2020, 2016, 2010, etc. If Christie’s telling the truth and didn’t see that then he is the dumbest MFer on the face of the earth. I doubt that’s the case and he’s just another craven politician, who, as said, supported him be “team red”. Just own it.

Saw it last night and thought it was great. I’ve been listening to the Last Podcast on the Left Manhattan Project Series (and recently finished a book on it) so that helped lay a background for me which helped a lot in following it.

Ok, she's obviously crazy and has a white old women privilege thing going on, but isn't this an unnecessary escalation by the cop? He doesn't need her to sign the ticket, it literally doesn't change a thing if she doesn't, she still gets the ticket. And she's apparently not a danger to let go, he was going to do it if she just signed the ticket. But because she was a dick to him, he escalates to pull her out of the car, ends up tasing her which could end up in death in an old lady.

Were there fake electors in Arizona? I assume so, but don't recall specifically.
Most election crimes are going to be state-law crimes, I think, because of the nature of even federal elections, see, e.g. Moore v. Harper. And poring over most collections of state statutes for prospective crimes isn't something most are willing to tackle, although Eisen & Co. have taken a stab at at for Georgia. Hell, DAs in most of the jurisdictions probably aren't even that familiar with election crimes
I have seen some theories that the sending of false electors to the National Archives may be tackled at the federal level as some sort of wire or mail fraud.
And, of course, I think the false electors, even if not criminal in and of itself, proves up a conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding on January 6, along with the browbeating of Pence and other things. And, even apart from conspiracy, it shows an intent by Trump to obstruct as part of a larger scheme to attempt to hijack the election. So, it's kind of important to figure out where the bear shit in the buckwheat on all of this, even if charges other than 1/6 don't emerge.
Yep, they included a bunch of known republican loons including the state party chair, current and former state Reps and Senators, Turning Point COO and more. They conducted a ceremonial signing and sent the slate of “electors” to Pence to certify.
Last year, the US attorney subpoenaed State Senate Pres Karen Fann (she’s behind the Cyber Ninja audit) for records and communications with fake electors and Trump officials. Nothing’s been done since.

It’s Trump trying to take a great big ax to the Republic vs DeSantis with thousands of effective little cuts. Both end up trying to kill it (with a nonzero chance of success)

I send my kids back to Kansas for a week every summer to stay with my parents. They’ve always been loving supportive, good people. Life long Republicans in the sense that they’d vote straight ballot because that’s what they were but never gave much thought, energy, etc to politics. Now the Fox News rot has set in and they went full on Maga and we don’t discuss politics whatsoever.
Last summer when my kids called to let me know they had made it (couple hour drive from the nearest airport), my youngest asked me what the Let’s Go Brandon flag flying on their house meant. I had her put me on speaker and told her to ask my mom (who I don’t think I’ve ever heard say a curse word in my life). She him’d and haw’d around it until I finally made her say it including the fuck and why they wanted that on their house. We then had a conversation about if that’s the type of people they want to be, if that’s how they raised me, if that’s the example they want to set for my kids, and if that’s the type of people I want around my kids. That seemed to get through to them and the flag came down.
We still don’t talk politics but my grandma (who hates Trump with a passion) told me that my mom told her that they’re supporting DeSantis (I know, no better), they wish Trump would just go away, and if it is Trump they just won’t vote.
We will see when push comes to shove, but at least it seems like a start.

No, it's really not dumb.
State laws vary widely. I wouldn't dare practice in California with all their fucked up laws and byzantine codification, except for patent law before the USPTO, which I am entitled to practice nationwide. Same with NY. Same with Louisiana.
Although a lot of federal legislation is necessary, there is value to federalism and letting a state fuck itself up all it wants to.
Again, the point of local counsel is not to have someone that is admitted to the Florida bar, it's having someone with an office in the district, so that the judge can get someone to court on short notice (often in order to barbecue their ass).
This was on display in the Kari Lake trials in Arizona. Local council being basically a divorce lawyer plus the out of state elections attorney not having a clue as to AZ rules led to multiple entertaining instances of a frustrated judge lecturing council on the local rules.
At one point Lake’s literally rested their case and then had to beg the judge to walk it back.

Let’s not forget that Christie jumped on the Trump train early, helping to legitimize him as a candidate in 2016, and was on TV shilling for him during the 2020 campaign (and helped with his debate prep). Trump today is the same person he was 2016, Christie is just an opportunist.

Why would a God who loves his creation and wants it to follow and worship him choose to give his followers scripture that, instead of plainly and clearly uniting and leading them to him, instead (and as illustrated by thousands of years of Christian history) is divisive to the point of leading, again and again to war death and destruction?
All the suffering in the world could be stopped in an instant by God, but instead he chooses to sit back, watch, and do nothing.

If large numbers of black and middle eastern men started to open carry (preferably in the suburbs), the GQP would change their tune on gun restrictions. Of course, a not insignificant number of those same black and middle eastern men would be killed by the police for exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.
