I went 20 years ('96 to 2015) between Austin visits.  I got really claustrophobic in and around campus.  It seemed so much more open when I was there - especially West Campus.

Yes, West Campus is unrecognizable from the 90s aside from the sorority and fraternity houses. My kid wanted an urban environment though so he is pleased with it.

  2. My kid will be attending next year so I have taken him to campus beyond the stadium a few times the last few months to really look around and tour especially during the day while classes are in session. Campus has a different feel with Speedway being pedestrian now. Aka the Yellow Brick Road. It is really great. It is a little disorienting with the new buildings too but I got used to it. Super excited for my kid.

  3. Honestly, being zoned for a meh high school and not moving might be one of the smarter things we have done. Oldest 2 were auto admit. Such a nice feeling to have that safety net. Oldest didn't end up going because he didn't get into McCombs, but is crushing it at a private school out of state. Ok, maybe a little under-prepared in math but I can blame covid.

  4. My cousin's ranch land was totally burned. Yes, it will come back. But in the meantime, the cattle up there need food. So send your extra hay. Especially if you don't want meat prices to go up even more.

I mean I care about all of y’all (most of surly which I think is pretty fucking generous of me) but like I cannot save all of your asses. I’m not John Wick…I’m just ridiculously good looking…I can’t fight some deranged serial killer that spikes men’s drinks and drowns them.

Besides I’d have to tone down my hotness and blend in…this is asking too much. I’d stick out…the killer is just after y’all’s asses. Then this person would find me and wind up stalking me and then my brother (a surly member—not telling you who that is) and my cousin in law (also a surly member) and my longtime friend from Amarillo (also a surly)…and all the many friends I have made here would then end up forming a search party and have to post some sad ass thread in the DT (which will wind up with a sticky or in the fucking CR) “Nicole44 is missing: Please help” and that’s like not cool.

Like y’all would form a search party to find me…not happening. And then it would be some Board Discussion thread on how I sucked as a poster and you’re glad I disappeared because I was too powerful (or just fucking bored and like to post long ass rambling posts like this one which is why I have bulletproof rep) to crowdsource.

I mean…we all have to die sometime but I’d rather my demise not be at the hands of some other surly lurking here that probably is the serial killer just so y’all can high five each other when they finally find my severed head over by the snowcone concession at a shitty fair in Zilker park. You people ask too much! (Lulz)

Also this fellow camper from that camp we both went to.

  6. The Avery Ranch Golf Club violated an Austin zoning code when it allowed an adult entertainment club to host a tournament including topless women this week, an official said Friday.

Austin City Council Member Mackenzie Kelly said she heard about the event when parents of Vista Ridge High School golf team members called her to complain. They told her that golf practice on Monday had been canceled because a tournament hosted by the Yellow Rose, an adult entertainment club, was happening at the course. Some parents also sent her photos of what they had seen, Kelly said.

"I've seen photos of women topless on the course passing out alcohol, which is concerning considering they were in a residential area," she said. "At first I was very shocked and surprised that would happen."

The parents are clearly not briefed on Council Member Kelly's history. But Kelly was shocked, just shocked.
