Southern Ohio is okay, like below the line from Parkersburg to Cincinnati. Otherwise, I am not a fan. My dad is from Youngstown which is a boarded up steel town and I have lots of relatives in Columbus. They sucked on my visit to the Texas-Ohio State game in Columbus. Fuck that place.

Columbus is an absolute dump.  I went there for a conference while I was grad school and was stunned at how shitty it is.  Guys were selling crack in the middle of the afternoon across the street from their state capitol building.

On the same trip, though, a friend of mine who went to undergrad in Ohio (at Wittenberg College) took me and some other friends up to Yellow Springs.  That's a nice little college town.

i don't have the numbers on it or anything, but i'd guess that the vast majority of 1 and done guys who have been picked in the first round got a 2nd nba contract.

Yeah, it's an interesting question.  I tried searching a little bit to see if anyone's put together some data along these lines, but I couldn't find anything with concrete numbers, just opinions.  And, of course, like anything, there are lots of different people who have a financial stake in pushing the narrative that one path to the pros is better than the other.

I guess my perception is that, leaving aside transcendent talents who either skipped college or were a one-and-done (like Kobe Bryant or Kevin Durant), who were likely going to be great regardless, most of the others didn't amount to much, but that could just as well be true of guys who did two years or more of college.

Apparently everyone's equilibrium in those mugshots are completely off except for Duffey's.  That solid balance should help him in the pocket

We can only hope, though that at best only offsets my concerns about how close together his eyes are.

Thought this thread should be brought over as well seeing that Tech has a good shot to make the Final Four and that a few of their football players are in trouble for sexual misconduct.

Who's in trouble for sexual misconduct?

that same argument could be made for 95% of the guys who leave after a year.

That's true.  Again, I know a big part of his decision will be how bad he needs the money.  These young guys have to be noticing, though, that a lot of past "one and done" players don't ultimately make it in the NBA.  So, do you want one rookie contract and that's it, or do you want to prepare to have a long career?

    Why wouldn't he?

    Go get paid.

Come back and finish in his own time.

He's not ready to play in the NBA, and he knows it.  I know lots of guys are tempted by the money - and I don't know what his family background is money wise - but after another year of college, where he'll be the star of the team, he'll be a lot better player.  We'll see, but lots of people are saying that behind the scenes he's telling people he's staying.

Zhaire Smith is popping up in the first round of several mock drafts. Tech is already losing a lot. It could be a total rebuild in year 3 for Beard.

    He's not leaving this year,

  8. Kliff has recruited poorly, granted, including brining in a lot of low character guys (including guys who are just lazy and entitled, not criminals).  That being said, he's been pretty consistent with kicking them off the team when they get in serious trouble and has rarely given second chances.  This has been one of the few things I think he's done well at as a head coach.

Nick was just like all the other string of serviceable "air raid" QBs that Tech fans have fallen in love with in the past, but unfortunately for him coach Bro was still calling shit and he is still a totally shitty head coach with terrible special teams and clock management and horrid team discipline

Nic was the worst QB of the Air Raid era at Tech.  The only QBs he's close to are Seth Doege and Taylor Potts (post getting his bell rung by Sergio Kindle).  Sonny Cumbie and Cody Hodges had limited arm strength but were accurate and could make quick decisions under pressure.  Shimonek could not.

  10. Kliff's had a lot of issues, but Mr. Duffey might just be the one to get him fired.  If Kliff boots him, then for 2nd straight season, he'll have to start a QB that isn't up to par (like Nic Shimonek) because Jett couldn't stay out of trouble, and Kliff can't anything less than a solid winning season.
