  1. 1874 is really bringing back some memories for me. I remember playing putt putt at Green Acres and wasn't there also a Green Acres driving range and a Green Acres liquor store there as well.
I had plenty of good meals at La Fiesta on North Loop and do you remember El Matador that was across Burnet rd. next to Dan's liquor store?
    Dad?
  2. We would walk to the old Fox Theater on Airport to catch an early movie and then share our change to buy a cheeseburger and french fries from Airport Haven Hamburgers back in the day. I would punch everyone of you fuckers in the face for an Airport Haven cheeseburger right now.
I would take a punch in the face from everyone for an airport haven burger right now.
  3. Why doesn't Cap Metro fund their own projects? They have their own taxing and bonding authority, unlike many local transit agencies. The CoA has multiple billions in unfunded mobility needs even before shouldering Cap Metro's load.  Why should the city have to take responsibility for this?
I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.

  4. Why do people want you to know they responded to a post via Tapatalk and then describe what type of phone they did it from?
Some people are just narcissistic assholes I guess.

  5. I believe it was the next parking lot north of where Dallas nightclub was.  Gibson’s was set back a bit due to its parking lot and the store faced Burnet while Dallas was sideways and faced north (the old one anyway... I think).  Today the spot I’m thinking it was in is a Tuesday Morning and several other shops in a newer building. They sit behind Tumble22 Hot Chicken today.  If Gibson’s wasn’t where that  Tuesday Morning is then it may have been the next block up, but it was definitely no further south than that.
I grew up around there. We used to shop at the Safeway that’s now a car dealership just south of all that at Justin Ln.
Ah, gotcha. I know where that Tuesday mornings is. Rad, something I've always wanted to know. My grandpa moved on before my mom was old enoughtoo know where it was.

I went to Buddy’s place one time with a half handle of Crown Royal. I got annhialated with another surlyer and talked to a bunch of unique lunatics from around the area. It’s an amazing place for BYOL and getting the “set ups” That aren’t even real coke. It was HEB cola that was way to expensive just to add to the crown. I fucking love that place. It’s phenomenal. I take chicks there if I really want to know what they’re made of. Fuck this, I think I’m going to go right now.

Missed you by a coupe hours,  friend.   Have fun

  7. I have seen it flow through middle school to high school.  My daughter's crowd is a broad mix of white, black, Hispanic and Asian kids with all kinds of gay, straight, and bi sexualities.  I'm not seeing the bullying.  At all.
OK, I'm seeing a shit ton of typical drama, but it seems to cut across demo lines.
Good to know. I went to a really shitty middle school (Burnet). Still seeking a frame of reference for what I'm in for.
  8. Chester served in Vietnam, and was a postman in Austin for decades.

Gene is also a Vietnam vet, and former interim city manager.

Every time I can buy these gentlemen a beer, I'm thankful for the opportunity.

Post some badasses that you're thankful or grateful for.142ded2d7c3883546c34c418debad18b.jpgd8a1752bc3cb223852f43a480557119a.jpg

  9. Not going to quote all the different post, but here are my comments to those things mentioned above:

Sunday selling - Most liquor stores do not want to open on Sunday because it is not worth the overhead.  Its not like people are going to starting drinking a bunch more liquor because they can buy it on Sunday.  You have already been trained to stock up.  The only incremental sales would be half pints being sold to the bums.  (No offense to some of you)

Texas will remain a three tier system, so Glazers and Republic will still have their level of involvement.  There are no warehouse options for chains like there is in FL or CA.

As already stated, the Costco liquor stores in Texas are not owned by Costco.

The little neighborhood liquor stores would be devastated.  It would be very interesting to see what HEB does with all those shopping centers with Twin Liquors sitting in them.  I know for a fact that HEB isn't pushing for the law to change, but they also know they can't afford to be the last major retailer to make the move if the law does change.

I wonder what heb would do too.
  10. Hopefully, this is the first step towards getting rid of the Sunday prohibition.  The Texas Package Stores Association has always argued that even if stores could open on Sundays, they would prefer to stay closed because paying employees for an extra work day is more than what the sales would be.  Costco, Walmart, Target, etc. aren't going to be this lazy.
    1234.

My other thought is that it would be interesting to see, assuming walmart and others do eventually start selling, what liquor will take the place of. I'd imagine that the margins are really high on liquor. What do they currently sell that gets the axe for liquor to take over the most amount of space?
  11. That's all good, but you know a lot of them are going to walk just to get out of class & have fun. Those kids probably could care less what the cause is.
But if they are truly passionate about a cause, they should be well educated on both sides of the issue - and don't allow either one (adult advocates) to manipulate them with one-sided talking points.
This is my thing. If my daughters want to protest something, anything, that's fine, but 1) they damn sure better believe it and work for it in some way other than just walking out (write our congressman, volunteer, give up some allowance); and 2) they're going to listen to me or someone play devils advocate when we talk about it so they can know what they believe and why.

  12. I know a lot of people might disagree with this post, but in my defense I've had the privilege of raising or helping to raise 5 kids age 26 down to 3.  I'm not so old I don't remember my youth, either.
I firmly believe kids are becoming more accepting and more including of those who are "different" than them.  Sure, this is mostly related to race and sexuality, but it also extends to kids on the autism spectrum as well as Down Syndrome kids, etc.  I don't know about CP, not sure I've witnessed that.
My (current) teenagers went to elementary school with a kid who was autistic.  He struggled to some degree, but I'm telling you, everybody knew him and for the most part helped him.  I was not aware of any bullying.  They were outwardly supportive of him when he did things like acting in school productions, etc.  He recited a beautiful poem that he wrote at the talent show and the place went fucking nuts.
I have hope for our future.  Kids are better nowadays.
I would agree, however, as a parent I wouldn't be concerned about elementary school, I'd wonder what it would be like in middle school. In my experience, that's when kids start becoming assholes.
  13. How hard was it growing up with a sibling with DS?  I'm very grateful that my son is going to have three older siblings to look out for him over the course of his life.  I think he's going to teach the other kids about a lot of other things that they wouldn't have the same exposure to in other circumstances.
Whay age are your other kids?
