Surprised that AZ fans aren't staying until the end. It's only 103 degrees.

When I went to the Tempe regional in 98 the Sun Devil fans said I should come back when it was hot.

I am thinking the same thing. All those teams who were playing up to their potential earlier are sure going to regret not saving it all for June like Texas and Florida.

    It's what LSU did too!

I dunno, there were a lot of people that felt Sark was a “hope” hire. He wasn’t overly successful at any point being a head coach and then of course he had his demons. We were hoping Sark hadn’t met his full potential and learned how to run a program under Saban but there wasn’t anything concrete. Obviously he’s turned out to be an excellent hire. I do agree tho that Sark had more in the boat at the beginning than Pierce.

I had already been through the Sark train-derailment at UW.  I thought Seven win Steve was funny and apt.  I'm sure week 5 of this season he'll be on the hot seat again.

Ok, look at the problem differently. When was the last time there was a big disagreement between knowledgeable Surlytons regarding a coach who had been here several years, and that coach went on to achieve long-term success at Texas? And I'm not talking about dipshits at Orangebloods or other casual fans and their views. There will always be idiots. There are probably people who hated Gus.

Charlie Strong was always controversial.  Herman became controversial pretty quick. Shaka lost his support a few years into his tenure. Karen or Gail the women's bball coaches. Swimming, volleyball, tennis, soccer, track? I can't think of one coach at Texas who became controversial on whether he/she was performing well enough who eventually demonstrated he/she was the right choice moving forward and had significant success.

There was a strong contingent who thought Augie should have been gone after his DUI.    *I* wanted Augie fired before 1998 (and I was 100% wrong about that)

There has been stupid online since they wired up all the trailer parks to the Internet...

  5. I think next visit we are going to slice up the gulf side (clearwater, naples, etc)  to or fro from baseball to Key West.

I must have been very lucky, I saw very little "florida man" behavior in the 7 days I was there.

I made the drive from Orlando (adjacent) area to Key West a couple times while attending Stetson University where I was the final cut to make the walk-on squad.  May they beat the shit outta FSU on Friday.  This all hits close to home, though I couldn't hit for shit.

And csb/ to the above point.  I once woke up in Saint Augustine, FL.  Flagler College.  Women's dormitory.  No air conditioning for some weird reason.  It was a simpler time.  But also far more bizarre.

Florida is much nicer than the Internet would have you believe.   Full disclosure it does not rain as much in Seattle as the Internet would suggest either...

The GF will do SEC baseball trips for more Florida trips.

I agree DP is a lot like Rick Barnes - almost good enough to be elite. Texas basketball never should have let Rick leave (can’t recall if he was fired or the seat was hot he just left). Either way, Rick Barnes met the Texas basketball standard.

Texas baseball standards are much higher they just are. I think you know that. I think you agree with that.

as for Shaka, I think CDC is a much better evaluator of coaching talent and will hire well if he makes a move. And if it takes two hires to get there then let’s get there, I find that a better path forward than hoping a guy who is 61 that is almost good enough can get over the hump before his retirement in the next 10 or so years.

I like DP and would be fine if he stayed, but Troph really makes the best argument for canning him and moving on...

I’m ready for change but only if the right guy is available to be hired.  Unfortunately, aggy got that guy.

Pass on that.  I would hire the Tennessee skipper as raw as he may be personality-wise over the TCU -> Aggie coach.  Who has been nothing but a cretin since his wife caught him cheating on her and tossed him out of his house across from Lufton Stadium.   He went out of his way at TCU during the Pierce hiring saga to re-ink a new deal with TCU.  He can shove that purple pen up has ass.

It is 4+ from Key West to Miami.

Google maps puts it at 6 hours and 39 minutes going straight Florida Turnpike to Key West to Orlando. We left midday Thursday and stopped for a long afternoon dinner and then every beach on the way from Ft Lauderdale and we were able to do laundry before bed at the hotel in Cocoa Beach that night.  Yay west coast internal time clocks.

I will note that I like driving, and rented my next car purchase from Sixt rather than a econobox. We also booked it to St Augustine and back to Orlando for a Whataburger run after the game Sunday.

Funny you mention that. I remember that Long beach state regional. Those games against long beach state were fucking criminal. Crooked ass umpires.

My favorite thing was Long Beach tried to sell a new ticket for the final game.  It was an all regional pass.   Arguing with a student and asking to speak to someone who actually graduated from college was not my finest hour...

Yeah I hear the Keys are nice.  Is it a quick drive from Gainesville to Tallahassee?

It was 6+ from the keys to Orlando, so no.  We took a few days and crawled up the coast from miami  to cocoa beach.

I can’t believe Arizona is hosting. I get they won the regular season title and tournament but the PAC was awful this year.

At the very least if you are going to give Arizona a regional you can’t give Oregon State one too

I also can't believe Oklahoma got two as well.
