  1. I live 4 minutes from Mum’s.
Happy to see them get the recognition.
sad for what it probably means for my wait the next time I go.

    Honestly, they need the business.

  2. yep.  My backyard neighbors have leaves stuck to their 2nd story windows and their screens are shredded.  I have a big live oak in front of my north facing windows, so mine made it through mostly ok.

Driving through the neighborhood this AM, it’s clear that we were very lucky. The storm was also very indiscriminate… one neighbor had a 50YO oak fall into their yard with no damage… another had a ~250YO oak fall right on their house.

It’s an absolute mess out there and was wild to see how much lighter the damage got as I drove north.
  3. Ok, the revisit was solid - The glencairn likely helped, but I think the ice was the culprit. In any regard, I’ll now move this to the “solid” category.

Perhaps I’m alone here, but the overall profile reminds me of Beam. Heavy dose of peanut on the nose and a little pickle on the palette. Back end carries burnt caramel notes, robust spice and a surprising burn for a BiB.

This is growing on me fast, but I won’t let it touch ice in the future…

Anyway, to follow with your notes on disappointing wheaters, you can add this to the list:

I’m honestly sad as this is the first bottle of RE that I found lacking character. Maybe I’ll like it better tomorrow…

  4. I’d say you throughly know your stuff, so that’s curious. It’s not a single barrel, so it’s nearly impossible to catch a bad bottle.

Do you think WT101 is better? I could WT8 not doing well in a blind vs Kentucky Spirit, Rare Breed, and Russell’s Reserve, but I like it quite a bit especially at $45.

Appreciated - Could have been that my palette was off, but I had it on its own well clear of dinner, which was pretty plain.

I did pour it over a single cube and will try it neat tonight, but the most stringent notes were sour / spoiled fruit and burlap… not exactly an exciting combination.

Will try it neat tonight and report back…
  5. Really don’t know what to think here… part of me is thrilled this exists and the practical side of me is flummoxed…

    I suppose the 22LR wouldn’t kick TOO badly…

  6. Will be in Austin next weekend. Recs for pizza downtown or near campus? We're staying pretty close to Backspace.

People seem to really like Oribello’s, but I haven’t tried.

Allday and Home Slice are both solid.

Practically falls apart if done right

Yeah, I know… like I said in the post they didn’t have all the lump I needed and I was worried about binding with the claw meat.

Too much breading, slightly overcooked, don’t care did smash.

  8. I'm sure there are some answers to this upthread, so apologies in advance.  What are you using for radar?  I miss the NWS/NOAA radar channel on tv.
Currently use KXAN but would love another resource.

  9. Not sure if anybody is interested but this is a 2002 USPS truck. Neighbor is from NC and is a bbq hobbyist and professional chemist who's working to start a side gig selling bbq in Fort Collins.
