When he placed the ball on the path, his next move was taking relief from the path. When he took relief from the path and dropped in the grass, he was once again right next to the power box.

Then he took relief from the power box (again) by dropping in a 1" x 1" patch of grass where the ball would stick and not roll onto the path or roll closer to the hole from where the ball was pre-drop. So when he finally took his final stance, he had taken relief from the power box, not the path.

I think what made Spieth so frustrated was that the official made him go through the whole process of dropping on the path (twice) and then place on the path, and then drop in the grass next to the box only to get to take the drop on the 1" x 1" patch of grass that he wanted to do in the first place.

I was 5 feet away from him during this yesterday.  He got pissed because the rules official wasn't going to let him drop again because "we already went through this".. That's what got him fired up.  What the tv coverage didn't catch after he finally had a ball in play was him berating Grellar for not talking to him before hitting his next shot.  Then, he fired off the comment about not filming his shot to the crowd..  I'm done with this kid's attitude.  I get the situation sucked and he was playing bad.  But he needs to grow the fuck up and quit taking it out on everyone else.  The only other ass hat yesterday happened to be Hossler.  Petulant child..

Is your position that he doesn’t know how to putt? That he should change it all and forget a career of elite performance on the greens?

He struggled with the yips in his year at Texas, he struggled with them in his rookie season on tour (before he began looking at the hole), and he'll struggle with them for his entire career.. it's just what it is.  He'll get the stroke back and he'll be fine for a while.. then they'll pop back up.  I wish he would go back to looking at the hole consistently though.

Having never stepped on the course, that course seemed like plain vanilla on tv.  Horrible sight lines in TV

With a -23 winning, I don’t see glory and fame for this golf course. The designers missed the mark on this one

That's because CBS covered it.. they had no interest in being there.. and of course Faldo and crew did no research on the course and the strategy involved in playing it.  Watch the Geoff Ogilvy videos on the course and see how the course plays when it's firm and fast (like it should play).

They got rain, they watered the course, and the wind didn't blow.. so it was a birdie fest.  Not that par means anything.  Crenshaw and Coore have completely changed the game in regards to course design (Sandhills and the #2 Reno) and I hope we see more courses like this on tour in the future.

It did look like a dud on the coverage though... but I blame that on the field, and the shit show that CBS has become.

  4. Is the point that you CAN wear them on the course because they're so well made?  Or do they expect people to actually wear them when they play?  I mean.. if he at least rolled the sleeves up and went another button deep it wouldn't look that bad.

Rather interesting that they decided to begin an overwatering campaign ahead of the tournament. Would have been better to keep it fast and difficult.

The social media comments are just brutal about them softening the course. Weather will be dry and hot. The sand it is built upon dries quickly as well. Add to the equation that they are having a hard time getting their bermuda to grow.

I plan on being out there Saturday. Hopefully the city will not be moving trash at the nearby McCommas Bluff landfill during the event. The smell can be bad on a strong southerly wind day.

Pretty sure they didn't go with bermuda.. I think they created their own zoysia strain which is now being used all over the world.

I hope it's playing firm and fast and they were just testing to see how different it might play if they were to get rain.

Finau just rolled his ankle celebrating a hole in one

Hope he is fine.  This guy has had some of the worst luck in his life but is such a great dude.

  7. Is Jordan the worst putter from under 3 feet of any elite player in the history of the game?  I mean there have been yippers who fall off the map, but he's elite despite missing these putts virtually every round..

No, need quick hips to rotate the face back to square. Slower hips help, in theory, keep the face more square and not allow the golfer to shut the face at impact. *it took me a minute to visualize but makes sense. The key is to not have it switched, or if you do, you need to do some tuning.

Dude.. you got it backwards.  I saw the episode with Martin Hall about this.  Most strong gripped players have to rotate hard through impact in order to hold the face square.  Trevino, Duval, Zach Johnson.  With a weak left hand you need the hips to stop so you have time to flip it through impact.
