Honest question, what can Tech afford to pay?  3M?  Venables likely commands 3.5M plus bonuses.  Just curious where Tech is at moneywise.

I've heard KC sports talk radio say Venables might have some skeletons in the closet from when he was at K State but they didn't discuss it any further.  Anybody else heard this or know what the rumors were about?

Did I see that Iowa State has Incarnate Word on their schedule on Dec 1?!!!

Wow, I didn't even know Incarnate Word had a football team? The Mighty...

    umm.. what are they?

It's a replacement for the first game of the season which was played for about 5 minutes then cancelled due to lightning.  So ISU had to scramble to get another team scheduled.

Not judging or questioning; I just wanna know.

How did he win games then?

Better players...  In all seriousness, they didn't have organized lifting or a lot of conditioning.  But most everyone did lift and do conditioning otherwise you risk losing your playing time to someone more prepared.  This was around 20 years ago so I'm a little hazy on exact details.  What I recall is that lifting and conditioning was not mandatory or organized by the coaches.

    Edit... And what Cooter said.

  4. I've been following this thread along (from the old site as well).  I never posted but it has been great motivation.  I have been writing my weight down every Monday since January 8th.  I started at 208 and last Monday I was at 188.  My goal was to break under 195.  Thanks to those of you that regularly post and give ideas.  I didn't do anything drastic.  Got back into the gym, unfortunately haven't had time for it the last couple months, but I'm so active in the summer I don't think it matters.  Cut down on portions and carbs.  Drank less (for awhile).  Hoping to maintain.  I'm 6'1" and about to hit 40 and don't want to have to lose it again.  I'm at a good weight now and will find out my numbers in the next couple of months when I do my "40" check up.  Hoping to get good results.

Question: does ISU still kit have a baseball team?

Nope got rid of it back when I was in school.  Late nineties/early aughts... But we still have more appearances in the college world series than Iowa.

ISU fans are always so friendly. @Al_4_ISU let’s have a beer at Scholz Biergarten when y’all come play us in Austin.

I will be there with a group this year.  Haven't been to Austin since the 2010 Garrett Gilbert game.  I've heard the city has changed a little..  Bart Scott Can't Wait gif.

  6. I love how the MLB and NBA (and others I assume) are trying to get in on the action.  I'll give them credit for their creativity for additional revenue.

Here in Iowa it sounds like it will pass when the legislators come back for session.  Unfortunately that will be in January.  The thought is, you will be able to place wagers at books in casino's and also do it online.  You will have to show up at a book/casino first and be "vetted".  They will check to make sure you don't owe alimony, child support, etc...  And you have to fund your account with cash, no credit card.  Can't wait.

    Sexy time.

I see it on this board often. It’s no wonder your wives won’t fuck you. You’re talking to her like a feminine beta bitch.

What are you talking about?  This guy got laid all the time.

    “It is what it is”

Makes me want to stab someone.

This was my most hated from back in my old corporate days.  Still makes me rage.  "Well it is what it is"  "Well, go fist yourself, alright"

Football coaches/players/announcers that refer to everything relating to football by using the term football.  Football field, football team, National Football League.  Yeah, we know what sport you're talking about.

People saying two thousand eighteen.  It's twenty eighteen.  Did everyone walk around saying nineteen hundred ninety seven?

Ahhh, the Iowa-Nebraska state hate. In Nebraska the joke is, "What does IOWA stand for? Idiots Out Walking Around"

I use that as self deprecating humor all the time.  The better quesion is "Why does the corn in Iowa lean west?  Because Nebraska sucks"

  9. Going to Social D this summer, been a few years and I'm pumped.

Saw a few mention Greta Van Fleet, would like to see them too, but I'm gonna have to make a 3 hour roadtrip to KC.

Good to hear STP is killing it.  Might have to go see them.  I lucked out and saw them 5-6 years ago (hell, it might have been longer).  Scott Weiland was late but he brought his A game that night.

  10. The HLN series was the creepiest shit I've ever seen.  Glad to see they caught him.  Will be interesting to see how they zeroed in on him.  A tip + DNA or did DNA give them what they needed?  They kept referencing DNA and needle in a haystack.  Have to think it was a tip with timing in regards to the HLN series finishing up a week or two ago.

  11. I use Iowa as well (I live in Iowa so I don't have a choice).  But I am very happy with it and as mentioned above it is Vanguard.  Just checked and expense ratio is .20% for all the funds I checked.

I have to think Utah is in the same ball park.  Here's an article from a couple years back (so a little out dated).  You can hover over the state and it will show what the expense ratio was back then.  I assume they have all come down a bit since then.  Utah was .21% and Nevada was .54% https://www.forbes.com/sites/shreyaagarwal/2016/02/12/529-college-saving-plans-where-are-the-plans-with-lowest-expense-ratios/#68194629432c

I have separate accounts for each kid but it really doesn't matter.  I think you can even pass along to a niece/nephew if your kids end up getting scholarships or not going to college.

Mine is set up to withdraw the 1st of every month.  I throw a little bit into the cash fund every month and when there's a stock market sell off (Brexit) I throw some more into the equity funds but you can only do this once or twice a year IIRC.  Probably not the best idea but it makes me feel like I know what I'm doing...

  12. Daughters were asking questions about dinosaurs...  Wife starts explaining.  And says to me "Were people around when the dinosaurs were?"

This woman is a CPA and has a masters in accounting.  I'll cut her some slack cause she's preggers again... But damn.
