  1. Nevin is class of 2018 so he'll be here next semester. Nevin also has a blue chip younger brother in class of 2020. Wonder if Texas will look at him. Evin is joining a class that already has two other recruits. One is Jacob Bullard (top 10 in his class) and another guy from South Carolina (top 50) Cleeve Harper.
  2. New Recruit! https://www.instagram.com/evin.mcdonald/
  3. Likely be the number 12 seed. With three hosting schools in Texas, hard to say who our first round opponents will be. Lamar could be sent to A&M, TCU, or UT. Baylor will almost definitely be sent to A&M. Hopefully with today's ranked win, Yuya will be in the individual tournament. He was on the bubble being ranked in the low 50s for a 64 size draw.
  4. Also interested to see the end of year conference awards coming out later this week. Joffe should get coach of the year and Bianca player of the year. Freshmen of the year...depends on how they choose. Best record (like when Lina got it) or the one who played the highest line (like how Bianca got it last year)? If they do it like they did last year, expect Cvetican of TCU to get the honors. Newcomer of the year will most likely be Vogasari of Kansas.
  5. Just got back.....what a day. But to answer this question.....I don't know the exact details but she broke it at practice. Most impressed by the doubles play. After losing so many early in the season to come back and win all three doubles points in the tourney without dropping the other match is a huge accomplishment! Looks like Texas will finish number 5 in the rankings. However I think the NCAAs can move teams up and down by 1 spot if the adjacent team has a win. Thus Ole Miss should slide up and Texas will be seeded 6 in the tournament. Potential Sweet Sixteen Match would be either Pepperdine or Texas Tech (for a third time!)
  6. Big match tomorrow against Tech (aka team left handers) B. Turati vs. Talaba: Talaba won last year but this year Bianca has won twice. A. Turati vs. Valenstein: I honestly think Valenstein is not the second best player on her team but we'll see what happens. Granic vs. Maltby: Petra will be slugging the balls no matter who her opponent is- that's just her style. Been in fine form this tourney. Let's hope this continues. Markovic vs. Federici: Unfortunately Federici is favoured in this one. Has beat a lot of mutual opponents more convincingly this season. Perez-Mur vs. Dvorak: Marta narrowly won in Lubbock. Lost pretty convincingly in the semi's but I think the style of play (her opponent was semi moonballing) just doesn't suit Marta's game. Should be a more competitive match with Dvorak. Wagland vs. Jackson: Both players came into the middle of the lineup mid season. Wagland (coming into form) and Jackson (coming back from a broken arm) are both seniors too. Hard to gauge this one. I think Tech should be favoured in doubles (?)
  7. Yeah...had a better time watching UT just kick OU's butt in men's tennis
  8. Back to Men's tennis.....facing Oklahoma tomorrow. Oklahoma has made quite a few changes since the last meeting Whatever happens I'm pretty sure Texas will host the first two rounds. Now it's just a matter of higher seed come tournament time
  9. The plot thickens...... One of the posters above is the boyfriend of Leolia JeanJean, an Arkansas player who was kicked off the team earlier in the year.
  10. This is causing quite a stir on social media. Seeing a lot of D1 coaches and players lambasting Arkansas' action
  11. Some story lines for the tournament: -Kansas State and Oklahoma are on the bubble and needs to perform well -Kansas is on the borderline of hosting -Texas needs to position itself for an ideal Sweet 16 match up (if they can get this far). The dreaded team I think most teams ranked in the top 8 don't want is Pepperdine (runner up at indoors WITHOUT their top player). Due to their weak conference schedule, Pepperdine is going to finish somewhere between 11-14. So funny thing is a lower seed might be better than whatever higher seed is paired up with the Waves.
  12. Nationally ranked in top 10- Basketball, Volleyball, Rowing, Tennis, Golf, Swimming, Track and Field (indoor was a bust but outdoors is now number 9) Soccer is top 20 What's the one sport missing?
  13. Just won the doubles point! Service break on court 2 thanks to two double faults and two second serves which Telles promptly ripped with his forehand. (definitely not the service game Baylor wanted)
  14. Congrats to former Longhorn Elizabeth Begley. As Assistant Coach, her Princeton team just won the Ivy League title today and made the NCAAs! Also, Bree Addison is an assistant coach right now at Miami of Ohio.
  15. Woops my mistake it was top 400 not 100 but impressive otherwise Technically, Van Zyl at Baylor and Hattingh at Arizona State are higher rated than Poluta as far as South African players. Don't know if they were ever considered but let's just say Texas has more depth than those teams to cover an absence like this.
  16. If you noticed, Poluta wasn't at the Baylor match......for the past week and a half, she was in Montenegro representing her native country South Africa in Fed Cup! That's a pretty big honor. She basically played the second line for her country. (Sadly South Africa basically only has one professional women's player.) Helped South Africa to advance to the higher group. Poluta also pushed a former top 100 player to three sets. This was on clay, so quite an adjustment to do in the middle of the season.
  17. NCAA might give UT a break. Baylor has a bigger chance to be sent to College Station as they're still going to have a lower rank even if they beat Texas.
  18. Well...Texas does have last year's Baylor volunteer coach on the coaching staff. Maybe she can give some inside pointers haha Baylor has been switching around their lineup a lot this year mostly because they don't have a line 1 or 2 player that can win consistently. Also on the line this match is Texas is still undefeated this year when they're playing outdoors.
  19. Christian had surgery in the summer and is why he didn't play in the fall, so seeing him win twice last weekend with a 12-2 record this spring is a good sign he can return to the form he had in his freshmen fall season
  20. Nice seeing that picture with the Big 12 trophy Poluta is not in any of those pictures though.....
  21. Matches against the two weakest Big 12 teams this weekend....can clinch the number one seed for the conference tournament and share of regular season title with the wins Honestly these are the matches that I want to see us get through with no injuries. Maybe Wagland, Labrana, or Crovetti will see some court time?
  22. Huge win by Marta! Gutsy play against a senior playing on Senior Day. Don't want to look too far ahead but Texas is most likely going to host the first two rounds. Good chance that the committee will ship the Aggies and the Rice Owls (currently on the bubble) to Austin.
  23. Lost the dubs point...let's bounce back in singles!
  24. TCU's top player didn't play in their last match. If she's still injured today, then today should be an easier than normal road win
