  1. That's the problem. Elliot does recruit liberos...McCoy, Brooks, Yogi, Palmer, Olschwanger, Rounsaville, Hahn, etc. were all recruited specifically for the libero position competition. While a lot were walk ons, they were all highly touted. Go to the archives of volleytalk and every year it's the same- posters getting all excited and singing the praises of the next defensive recruit (before coming onto campus and not panning out). Even Olschwanger was honored as a 'Defensive Dandy' by PrepVolleyball magazine. McCoy was one of the top 2 liberos of her class. Petersen has been recruited since 2015, back when she was just a sophomore in high school. I know the current Stanford libero Hentz was also recruited by Texas. Thus the problem is development, which brings the spotlight on Sullivan- the defensive coach. Actually, the libero position is pretty unstable on the national team. I think the US is going to go with a converted OH into L at this World Championships in Japan this year.
  2. The weird thing is that one of the critical passers of the 2012 championship team Sha'dare McNeal didn't even play back row until her senior year of high school! Somehow Elliot, Rockwell, and Sullivan were able to develop her passing and defense skills during her four years
  3. What BS is this? Those infractions ARE NOT minor And it's not the word 'thief' that sparked the third violation. It was the constant tirade during the whole changeover that included the threat of never being allowed to officiate her match again. Williams has threatened to shove a ball down official's throats, told umpires that they're ugly, and has made the statement along the lines of 'you better not see me in the hallway' She is not classy at all compared to the likes of Li Na, Kvitova, Halep, etc.
  4. I'm just laughing at the whole banning catsuit is racist thing? Stupid people can never bother to do research. Anne White had her similar outfit banned back in 1985 Wimbledon. Also Williams really doesn't need the outfit to prevent blood clots, she's running around, sprinting side to side. That is more than enough in preventing clots.
  5. Absolutely. I also want to stress this is NOT the first time a player is penalized without the player directly knowing about coaching. Serena should know the rules, she's been on tour for over a decade https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/2996254/Adidas-International-Hingis-advances-despite-warning.html
  6. Umpire was right and coaching code violations have been going on for years since the 90s (why are people on Twitter freaking out like this is a new thing?)
  7. Busy week in terms of recruiting-Top 10 recruits Siem Woldeab (class of 2019) and Leighton Allen (class of 2020)
  8. Saw the High Point match and it was a really rough match for Shook. White and Rounsville struggled with passing in the first set but stabilized in the next two (though Hahn and Petersen did OK). My feeling is that in the past the so-so passes would turn into so-so setting or the passes would be better'd by the setter (Collins, Allison, Kocher). Unfortunately, Shook makes some of the average passes worse. Shook also bump sets many balls even when they're passed within three steps of her starting position. Good thing I saw was that Shook was aggressive in getting Butler involved. Block also sent many balls back, explaining why High Point had more digs and attacks.
  9. Canada beats Brazil 1-0 Grosso was subbed in at the 71st minute
  10. De Facto champions of the VERT Tournament!!!
  11. Second Florida TO Texas has 23. UF has 18 or 19
  12. I believe it's 18-15 at the Florida TO
  13. Awesome job! Still a bit frustrated with Rounsville's serving. First point of the fourth match was a service error. Logan ended up serving for the rest of the set but it'd be foolish for Logan to serve the first point of every set and then get subbed out on serve receive- just wasting a sub.
  14. Yuya is in the doubles semis of the Asian Games. He's guaranteed at least a bronze medal!!!
  15. I'm all for him not attending TCU but he'll basically be a walking Bye at the US Open. Looking at his pro results, he's losing to journeymen quite regularly at the futures level. He also has never traveled outside North America for a tournament and has never played in a junior grand slam. For his sake, college will be the smarter option.
  16. Summer updates- Ortiz, Scott and Markes played Canada future tournies in June. All got ATP points. Markes has played some more tournaments in July and has some really impressive results. Incoming freshman Huang also played some future tournaments in both Canada and Taiwan. Yuya Ito is on the Asian Games roster to represent Japan. Alum Glasspool won a futures tourney. Micky Reyes-Varela won his first ATP tournament and has a career high of 51 in the world in doubles.
  17. Initial impression of the schedule is that it's a really tough one. Basically all the same opponents from last year with the exception of Pepperdine (in place of Florida) and Rice (in place of Texas State and UTRGV). Big 12 will be tougher next year as Baylor returns almost everyone, Kansas and OU have highly ranked recruits that can change the programs, and TCU is rumored to get the highest ranked unsigned player from class of 2018. Got to win more indoor matches this year.
  18. Scheduling hard opponents have always been historically tough for Texas That was why for a few years Texas has played opponents such as the Italian A2 team, the Israeli national team and Chinese professional clubs during the season. Just a shortage of teams willing to come to Austin I suspect one of the reasons is that Texas is geographically isolated of consistently top teams. For teams ranked in the top 20, it's hard to fly to Austin and find another quality opponent for the weekend within driving distance. Otherwise they'd be breaking the budget. This is the exact problem Hawaii encounters.
  19. Woot! I think this tournament was played near Milan and near the twin's hometown. Looks like they're playing in another Italian tournament next week. Labrana is also playing in Ecuador.
  20. Yes it's a big win for Bianca. Molinaro has yet to turn pro (will graduate from HS in 2019 and decide later in the next year) so she's one of the top recruits in the world. Should also be noted Anna has reached a new personal best ranking at 766.
  21. Meh... I'll hold my judgment Honestly McKay did not bring in much offense. Just from an eye test I think Texas was way better off with Hill from a hitting standpoint.
  22. Anna is in the final of the Bucharest tourney! Good sign beating Stoica, who is most likely playing lines 2-4 at Tech next year. Bianca had a tough draw having former top 100 Mitu (coming back from giving birth) in the first round.
  23. Petra in danger of being bageled this last set
  24. Twins lost 4 and 5 today. Good showing, I believe this is Anna's first final in pro tourney. New article on Bianca- http://atxwoman.com/making-a-racket/ lol at the author describing Bianca as 'hard hitting'
  25. Turati's are in Romania this week and have reached the doubles final! Will face Mitu (former top 100 player) and Mandlik (teenage daughter of a four time Grand Slam champion and Hall of Famer Hana Mandlikova) Also playing in this tourney is Tech signee Stoica In Big 12 coaching news: -Iowa State finally got a new coach. He was the Tech Assistant Coach this year -KState head coach left to take the new HC position at Colorado. -OK State's assistant coach Hayley Carter has left her position to turn pro. Program
