  1. Joffe will be looking for a new assistant coach.
  2. I'd argue Blaire Luna was a 'late bloomer' when she came to Texas. If my memory serves me correct, Texas was her only power 5 offer. I know there were many that thought Kim Bruins was the better of the two pitchers when they enrolled. Blaire just happened to have immediate success as a freshman.
  3. Interested to see what Joffe does with Peyton's scholarship- get a transfer, sign an international recruit, or convince someone to graduate early (which I think is least likely) Should balance out the scholarship distribution which was looking odd at 0-0-4-4 this year Best wishes Peyton!
  4. If you're going to count those, have to also mention the individual winners in Swimming (Drew Kibler, 400 relay, 800 relay) and Track (Men's Distance Medley Relay) too.
  5. I'd argue Texas should add women's gymnastics. At the junior levels, Texas is a hotbed and there's so many elite clubs in the state (WOGA, Stars, Metroplex, World Champion Centre, Texas Dreams, etc.). Also gymnastics is huge in the SEC (I'm thinking about the sell out crowds at LSU and Georgia).
  6. https://tenniskalamazoo.blogspot.com/2022/05/champaign-dreams-become-reality-for.html Stearns, who won the team title last year playing No. 1 as a freshman, said she will make her decision about returning to Texas or turning pro in the next week or two, long before she'll be playing in the US Open as a wild card recipient. I'm 99.99% certain Stearns will go pro. Along with the US Open main draw wildcard, USTA will probably give her many wildcards to the warm up WTA events (San Jose or Washington DC, Cincinnati, Cleveland). Also likely to get a wildcard into the doubles draw too. Can easily get $100,000 in prize money. Too many opportunities to pass up.

Simple math now- First 8 needs to win and Texas will get the 'ship

Fours get third place but most importantly ahead of Stanford and Washington
  10. Should be a big recruiting tool in the transfer portal for Berque...came to Texas and became a national champ!
  11. See you in the US Open, Peyton!!!
  12. Czech also deserves some credit! Her playing a complete game Friday meant MW could squeeze as much as he could out of Dolcini
  13. So my analysis of the match: Texas came out ready in doubles and OU seemed to be flat footed. Collins was great at the net with her hands. Pretty sure Collins and Stearns would have won too if their match had played out. Also with Chantra out, the change was evident. Don't think the new pairing of Staker and Guzman is the best doubles combination; both seem to grind and don't make 'set up shots' for their partners. Line 1- Peyton was Peyton. If you include the previous matches, she has won 25 straight games against Sleeth! Sleeth has actually had a good season too. Line 2-Expected with the split sets. Both Collins and the younger Corley like to slug things out. Line 3-Also expected I guess. The older Corley (and to some extent her younger sister) plays a high risk game- low toss, stands extremely close to the service line for second serve, tends to hit on the rise with a compact swing. Zeynalova is just too consistent. Even when down 2-5, I had no doubts Zeynalova would win. Line 4-Wow did Charlotte hit a brick wall. After breaking her opponent in the first game of the second set, she would go on to lose 11 of the next 12 games! Nice to see her fight and she was on the verge of 3-5 when the match ended. Line 5-Got to admit Zamarippa was the surprise of the tournament for me! She played better with each match. Her serve was better than in the regular season and I think that was what the difference was in yesterday's and today's match. Her UNC third set was really high quality. Both players were holding serves until the last game, much better than the stress inducing breakathons you'd expect in college tennis. Line 6-Ovrootsky did not play the big points well. Seemed like she lost every deuce point. In the back of my mind, I was wondering if Rapolu would get the chance to play. Ovrootsky has not had a good NCAA tournament. Also I'd like to say Joffe really outcoached his counterpart. Made a change in line three late doubles so late in the season takes guts. The new pairing (Zeynalova and B. Zamarripa) went undefeated this weekend!
  14. Joffe is literally a 'west coast' type of personality and I don't think he could see himself spending his whole time in CS (also the UT job was not the first job he applied to get out of CS). Also his then girlfriend at the time was also living in Austin. So win-win for both parties!
  15. Pretty sure unless something massively changes, Stearns will be the only one No one else on the roster (other than Zeynalova) was convincingly dominating this season
  16. Woohoo!!! Back to back!
  17. Yesterday during the Duke match, the commentator Hayley Carter did mention that with the way some of the OU players play (particularly Sleeth and Staker), she wondered just how much was left in the tank for OU.
  18. It was not on the app last year I also think it's virtually impossible to leave Vietnam and get to Illinois within 20 hours.
  19. UNC must be wondering what it takes; champions of the national indoors 4 out of the past 5 years yet has NEVER even made it to the final Question of OU and Duke is quite interesting. As I mentioned above, OU is missing their number 3 player Chantra who is playing at the Southeast Asian Games. She has a doubles final to play in the next three hours. I'm wondering if she can catch a flight to play tomorrow if OU advances? She has been rock solid and I would play her if I were the OU coach even if there's jetlag issues. Of course, Texas beat OU at the Big 12 Championships and should have confidence against OU. Duke last night did not play their number 5 player Biolkin. She did play doubles though. Regardless, I like Texas' lower lineup against Duke's. Duke has Kelly Chen at number 4 who was a prior NCAA individual finalist. I believe tonight OU is going to win lines 5-6. Duke will win line 4. The rest should be interesting to see.
  20. Collins rolled the dice on deuce point, really aggressive second serve. Caught Scotty by surprised.
  21. Peyton closes it out. Some of her shot selections give me a heart attack, but they look so good when it works (thankfully>50% of the time). Need one more.
  22. After winning the doubles point and 3 first sets so far, the rain has come! Looks like the rest of the match will be indoors.
  23. Duke and NC State are actually playing outdoors right now. Literally so random.
  24. Texas faces UNC tomorrow. UNC beat Pepperdine 4-3 after Pepperdine's number 4 player got injured in doubles, meaning 5-7 had to move up a line. The Good News: Peyton's not facing Navarro tomorrow. And hopefully Peyton got her one bad match out of the way just like last year. The Bad News: UNC's middle lineup is a lot stronger than Virginia. And there's >80% chance of rain tomorrow, so likely indoors against the indoor champions for the past three (or is it four?) years.
  25. Yes Stearns and Navarro should be exciting. Collins at 2 will also be in a tight battle. 3-6 people can argue that Texas are slight favorites. Interesting to see line 6 Ziodato vs. Ovrootsky- Ziodato was at Baylor last year and didn't make a lineup, transfers to a stronger team, and has had a fantastic season. Of note, OU is without their line 3 player Chanta, which is a huge blow. Chanta is with the Thai national team at the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam. Just won team gold but has the individual competitions this week, likely won't make it back in time. Huge blow to OU and I think the OU vs. A&M match has A&M as a slight favorite.
