I mean sure, play that trump card when that's all that you have in your argument.

You are the one that started this discussion with the ridiculously unfounded claim that a healthy deGrom would have added 8-10 wins to the record this year.  I very simply pointed out that the WAR numbers do not support this assumption in slightest.  Even substituting prime 2018 deGrom for 2023 deGrom, the numbers don't support the claim.  Now your claim is that 13-14 wins from deGrom would have made up the 11 wins that Dunning/Bradford did get you as starters plus 5 or 6 additional wins the team would have found with these guys freed up to perform more in bullpen roles?

That's fine.  It's OK to fantasize.

i don't need to fantasize about anything. we got the ring.

degrom was on some shitty mets teams in his career, so regardless of his career win % or WAR, it's not a stretch to think he could have been a 19-20 game winner with this offense this season had he stayed healthy.

but i guess we'll never know. and that's just fine with me.

I sure as shit can't follow your nonsense and bullshit stats.  Bradford was 4-3 in 8 starts for .1 WAR.  Dunning was 12-7 in 26 starts for 3.0 WAR.  That's 34 starts.  if PRIME deGrom steps in with his 9.5 WAR from 2018, that's only a difference of 6.4 WAR.

Forget WAR.  Let's just use records.  Dunning/Bradford were 16-10 in 34 starts.  To improve by 8-10 wins, deGrom would have to record 24 wins at a minimum in his 30 starts.

So the theoretical math works, but the REAL WORLD math does not.  Even for deGrom at his very best ever, which is five years in the past.

    lol no

OK... I conflated Bradford's wins in relief with his wins as a starter.  Same with Dunning.

    Refactoring the starter records:

    Dunning:  10-7

    Bradford: 1-3

    Combined: 11-10

8 to 10 games better would require deGrom to win 19 of 30 starts.  Still not a realistic expectation.

speaking of bullshit stats, no he wouldn't have to win 19 games. 13-14 probably would have been fine. dunning and bradford took starts from eovaldi and gray when they were on the IL as well. i'm going to bet you could find at least 5 more wins spread around those three guys. look what happened when they went back to their normal roles in the bullpen in the playoffs. but you already know how that turned out:

i'm not sure you can hold a thought for 30 seconds.

you: "a prime deGrom couldn't do this."

me: of course a prime deGrom could, see.

you: "haha, why are you talking about a prime deGrom?"

    derka sock confirmed.

Forget deGrom, because he's *always* hurt.  That was just a boneheaded trade.

The others: 4 injuries, none longer than about a quarter of the season?  Yeah, that is not a bad run of injuries.  Christ, it adds up the same as one guy missing the whole season.

Edit: okay, add Heim and Gray.  It's an average run of injuries, guys.  It probably cost you a few games in standings.  It didn't turn a 105-win team into a 90-win team.  Fun fact: no one's ever won 105 without having half a dozen guys go to the IL, too.

Christ, this is some silliness.  Most of y'all were burying your own team on your own thread a month ago.  Now, they were the best team all year?  Come on, man.

this guy out here telling us to forget the 8-10 additional wins degrom would have been good for on this team over the full season, saying injuries probably cost us a few games but not 15. that’s the real silliness.

it’s not just this postseason, it’s the last three. going back to his final start of the 2021 postseason max has gone:

    18.2 IP, 22 H, 16 ER, 7 HR, 7.71 ERA, 1.020 OPS

last night was actually statistically his best start since 2021, and as mentioned, he got some luck to avoid giving up any runs. he hasn’t been good in the playoffs for some time now.

his playoff performances the past few seasons (and in his career in general) are certainly deserving of some criticism. but to imply the rangers woes at points this season are due to scherzer is idiotic. the reason they sucked ass in august and early sept is because the bullpen sucked shit through a straw, eovaldi was on the DL and the bats disappeared.

the rangers most likely wouldn't be in the playoffs if it wasn't for him. 6 out of 8 quality starts and he was shoving in the TOR game when he got hurt. a game, which by the way, put the rangers back into a playoff spot they wouldn't relinquish.ScreenShot2023-10-31at1_40_18PM.thumb.png.cfb14359f88d7ad600e3827fe9605fbd.png

I think our improvements are really independent of Kane.

The biggest thing is the addition of James Maddison. With him our midfield again has a creator that can distribute the ball. And while the team was able to do that before, now we have a passing threat that can penetrate, which we didn't have before. His addition has been huge.

I also think the team was setup around a style of play that really suits them. And that is much more fun for this team to execute. I mean who doesn't want to have such a creative attack like this?

If Kane was still here, I think we would be a lot better because that attack would be devastating.

    ..............Kane

    Son - Maddison - Kulusevski

    .........Bissouma - Sarr

    And then your back 4.

Kane wouldn't be a focus, he would be another weapon out there. And it would be really tough to defend.

    we’d be lethal with kane.

He did. But he has to sign them to make the transfer official.

So now the rubber is hitting the road and he has to make a decision on if he wants to leave or not.

That said, I don’t see how he doesn’t go.

easy to see how he doesnt go. he can say he never agreed to the terms, play out his contract and then leave on a free next summer to another EPL team and keep chasing shearer’s record…all while dangling the smallest carrot of hope that he signs a new contract at spurs.

he already started walking it back the other day by indicating he was leaning towards staying regardless.

His system is basically Pep's attacking 4-3-3 system. He'll likely have a learning curve in the EPL.

dude’s won everywhere he’s been and will be hungry to prove himself. gonna need a strong summer of recruitment though.

assuming levy doesnt bork this up, it will be nice to have a manager who plays attacking football and doesn’t think he’s too big for the club again.

Isn't he in the last year of his contract?  So either sell him this summer for $90 mil or get zero next summer?

you trust levy with no manager, no sporting director and bale money v2.0?

might as well get another season out of harry to try and get back in a euro competition.

Meh, the failure is a team effort. The club certainly hasn’t giving him everything he needs/wants (our lack of creativity in the MF demonstrates that). He has been very stubborn on roster selections. It’s been a whole mess with blame to go around.

it'll never be enough, but he's gotten everything he's asked for. richarlison, lenglet, perisic, bissouma, deki, bentancur, danjuma, porro. if we're missing creativity in the midfield it's mostly on conte and his tactics/roster selection (and a bit of shit luck injury-wise). leaving kane on the bench against sheffield w/ a trip to the FA cup quarters on the line was impossibly idiotic.

the club has problems at the top, but conte thinks he's the smartest dude in the room and blames everyone else except for himself when things start to go sideways. mourinho 2.0.

Sure, but Conte hasn't accepted any responsibility for his role. He shares plenty of the blame.

of course he does. it’s laughable to hear him blame ownership by saying the manager doesn’t matter. general ownership issues aside, they’ve given him everything he’s asked for. this is on him.

At this point he wants to get fired. He’s checked out. He had an easy out calling out the refs and instead went inward.

Like I said, given the time off earlier this month, I don’t get why they didn’t mutually decide to part ways on amicably terms. This whole thing is galacticly stupid.

hiring him in the first place was galactically stupid.
