so what is going on with Spurs?

manager? scheme? squad/personel? injuries? tough stretch of the schedule?

have taken 12 points out of 39 in your last 13 league matches.

surely the ship has to be righted in the next 3, eh? Burnley, Fulham, Palace

I think Jose has figured out that Lamela needs to play CAM. We’re more creative with him playing 90 in that role, and Ndombele playing behind him. That’s one positive to come from the last two matches.

the other positive is there is now one less opportunity for jose to win a trophy this season and one less opportunity for levy to justify keeping him around.

Pretty much textbook now. With no Kane, you just deny the ball to Son and you've defended Spurs completely. There is no attacking plan/scheme. They don't have a midfield that can breakdown the backline of any other team.

we really don't know about the second statement because of the first.

The premier league is based on the the NFL
Pl executives understand growth and marketing based on the NFL.
There are American owners in the Pl who actually want to make money.
There are a lot of dads up at 8am who will watch sports.
ESPN home depot at 8am gets good ratings.
Dad's have a lot of money.

and how accessible is the full slate of nfl games in england without a paid subscription?

Completely different markets.   England fans are already fans.  They have their team(s) that they follow religiously.   The US is in infancy as far as viewers.   The more US fans they can draw in the more advertising they can sell the more they can make at each broadcast rights contract.

providing a robust slate of matches via  non-premium network tv isn’t going to magically draw a critical mass of fans to drive the premium on ad space up, especially since most of the matches take place during non-primetime viewing. how many posting in this thread became a premier league fan because nbc suddenly made it easier to see the majority of the matches on a weekly basis?

with the premium that the EPL charges for their broadcast rights, networks in the US will likely continue to find ways to monetize the hell out of their programming via subscriptions from current fans until such time that the USMNT does enough on the international stage (collectively and individually) to generate more interest from the casual american sports fan.

They are, and that’s a problem.
Rumors coming out that Eriksen might return. Definitely need more creativity out of our midfield.

dont disagree on needing more creativity but ndombele is capable of providing this from a defensive position. the “problem” is further up the pitch, but i think tactics have as much to do with talent.

Too defensive of a lineup (Sissoko at RW, really?). Sat back the whole second half on a one goal lead. Its the same dumbass story against bad teams. Also, Sissoko is Jose's Cade Brewer.

i'd argue that dier is jose's cade brewer.

Additionally, the margin for error in those matches where a team employs that strategy, is incredibly fine.  It's tough to switch on and off the attacking style, and when something goes wrong late in the match (e.g. Fulham/West Ham/Crystal Palace/Wolves), you might not have a lot of time to adjust back to an all out attack to win the match.  Take into consideration rule changes, most notably VAR, and shit can go wrong quickly and further reduce the margin of error.  All it takes is one reviewed call for handball (Dier) to really ruin your day.

it would be one thing if we began with an attacking style and switched it off, but we don't. we always set up in a defensive formation (even when we have attacking players throughout the team sheet), are content to sit back and concede possession and hit teams on the counter. when this is successful it compounds the problem because instead of pushing for another goal we sit deeper and more compact while other teams commit more players to the attack. this puts more pressure on mediocre defenders who make more mistakes and are even less able to play the ball through accurately to our attacking players waiting to counter. i lost count of the number of times yesterday that dier, sanchez, reguilon or aurier dealt with the initial threat but gave possession right back in dangerous areas because there was no outlet between the back line and the forwards.

this is mou being mou. it was the concern when he was announced as manager and will continue to be as long as he is manager because he has never shown a willingness to adapt to the modern game. if/when he starts to ratchet up his public criticisms of the players not executing his system vs. changing tactics you'll have a full bingo card and it'll be time for us to start waiting around for levy to make a change...which will also take too long. there is too much quality in this squad overall now to blame the player quality for the lack of results.

It's not that. See what Schulz said. We are basically playing the Tom Herman strategy, take the lead and try to hold a 1 goal lead. That is extremely hard in the EPL and continues to blow up in our faces.

that was sort of my point. playing a defensive/counter strategy in today's premier league is playing to not lose.
