Tell me you got the diesel

Hell no! I'm cheap as hell. I paid $27k out the door. No way am I paying whatever crazy price they want for those diesel rigs. The fancy pants offroad packages are also of dubious necessity, and I actually do drive off road and have three different rough creek crossings on my property. As it is the tow rating far exceeds what is probably reasonable given the truck (7000 is a load for a midsize seems a recipe for disaster). I got four doors, AC, keyless entry,  cruise control, and an aux jack. I can't fathom needing anything else. Basic transit that can take the kids to school and haul 300 pounds of corn and/or leaking jerry cans of diesel & remedy for the mesquite is all I need. I removed the chinstrap air dam before mile 200, and am good to go.

  2. Had my protest today. Knocked it down $28k to what I can honestly say would be a fair market value. Waited about 15 mins, and the face to face was about 90 seconds. Honestly, as far as evil incompetent bureaucracies go, it was fine.

  3. Bought a 2018 Canyon. Too much city driving & tiny parking garage, couldn't justify a full size. Backseat is as much or larger than the backseat of my old SUV. I'm liking it so far. Got the G80 automatic locking diff, and it really does feel more locked in when I was trying to purposefully throw up dirt at the ranch in the loose powder (damn if my place is not already dry as hell and its only May).

  4. Over at La Casita I had this idea for a survival garden. To that end I planted some sunchokes (jerusalem artichokes). I have this elaborate water tank system to automatically irrigate. It's been a dry spring, but they are doing well considering I just bought them from HEB and stuck in dirt:

There wasn't enough pressure for a drip line, but a hand dug little channel seems to do the trick.

  5. I practice law that is about as far away from appellate constitutional interstate commerce law as a person can and still get flooded by constant bar election emails. But the Modell Law is a joke.

  6. I wouldn't sweat the sick kid thing unless they have some other medical condition. My view is that there are dozens of little cold and stomach flu viruses, and sooner or later they'll catch them all. It sucks and you move on. And its better to have it happen when they are young and toughen them up, then constantly be picking up a sick kid from the Elementary school nurses office. The whole "1 day fever free" thing means way more days off. Daycares, in my experience, are more loosey-goosey about it. Sure that means little disease vectors getting sick, but in the ends that fewer days you or your spouse have to take off for work. Kids who never got anything age 0-4 just end up catching every thing age 5-6. It evens out.

  7. The la casita is just outside of Mullin, and 10 miles from Goldthwaite. Technically we could move there tomorrow. My plan is to retire and spend Monday through Thursday up there, and then Thursday night through the weekend at a zero outside maintenance condo or townhome in Austin. Our kids are young, but sometimes we do talk about how a small town is an option, and an escape from the pretty intense competition. Out kids could easily play varsity sports (hell, every sport) and probably walk into top 7% stuff. But I grew up in some nerdy burbs, and I think having virtually 100% of my high school peers expecting 4 year college was really good for my own ambition.

Another sidebar, what made you all choose i9 vs a local(insert town name) soccer association?

I9 is less intense, for the most part, but I wouldn't do it after the introductory season I think. My daughter started Town & Country soccer in the second grade. Some of the girls on her girl scout unit played on the same team, and she LOVES being on there with friends. She probably should have started the year before, but its working out. My son is in kindergarten (age 4 would have been a riot, and possibly pointless). The main thing with I9 is its just a 1 day commitment, we practice a bit before the game (actually T&C might be like that at age 5-6, too). Also, its always Sunday, so I don't have to be at the T&C fields like 6 hours in a row. But I suspect this fall we'll be double soccer parents.

  9. hey, are we stealing them for next season (March 2019), or would it be in 2020? Where would they play the first couple of years? That RRISD stadium, on campus, or somewhere else?

first I've heard of Austin Blues, but like it!
