Spent four days in the hospital this week. Lesson learned, if you have unusual abdominal discomfort that doesn’t go away after a few days go to the doctor.

I thought I was dealing with run off the mill gastro stuff but it peaked Saturday night in some of the worst pain I’ve ever had. It subsided Sunday and a doc in the box said to just go see my PCP on Monday which I did. They ordered a CT scan, saw the results, and said “go to the hospital.”

Diverticulitis which resulted in a micro-perforation of my colon which thank God didn’t require emergency surgery. Four days of IV antibiotics appears to have gotten it under control but that was a very scary experience. There’s not a lot that can ruin your day faster than your doc waking in the room and saying, “I’ve got some not-great news.”

I’ll be fifty next year and I guess it’s time to start acting like it. Y’all take of yourselves.

I thought that was going to be an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

85k in Austin for 16x30, no spa, 3’-6’, a few hundred sqft of basic sundek decking.

BTW, that looks great. I wrestled with the decision to go deep enough for a diving board but the added cost with the thicker walls and such was more than I could talk myself into paying. I’m guessing your at $115k if you’re near Austin.

The depth is at least partly to keep it from boiling in the summer too

Paging Surly doctors.... wtf does this mean?

I retired, rarely read this shit anymore, and I always got an interpretation from the ordering cardiologist.  Every internist thinks they are pretty good cardiologists.  That is hubris.

I hate to say "old heart"..... so I wont

Right ventricular enlargement does not look normal, the TAPSE is a little elevated, those often go together (looking at how the right side of the heart is functioning).  A cardiologist might tell you this is close enough to normal not to worry about (see above). Would be nice to compare to an older one.  Won't venture a diagnosis without more patient information for that, too many things it could be so not helpful alone.

Aortic valve is getting stenotic (not opening as wide as it should) so it's restricting LEFT side blood pumping).  Severe is when the valve area gets under 1 - but the left side function measured by ejection fraction (EF) is still normal but it is getting thicker, guessing from the increased work through the smaller valve. A little bit of this happens in older patients over time, a lot of this has to be treated.  Ill leave the treatment options to the cardiologists - there are many.

Hope that helps a little.  I would not run screaming to the funeral home just yet, neither would I ignore it.

Trivia on radio this morning said men wear their underwear on an average of 3 times before washing them.

Fuck no.  I basically wear 2 pair a day.  1 for work and another one for evening.  New pair to start the next day.

    Nasty fucks.

OCD and autism are both very treatable with intense therapy
