It wasn’t perfectly constructed, but saying Sane is a magic cure is flawed as he’s never shown he’s good against a compact defense and it is highly unlikely that he would have space against any of the three opponents due to their strategies.

Criticize Low’s decision to bring back Khedira, or his placement of Werner, or starting Goretzka when he hasn’t really played, but not bringing Sane is nowhere near why they went out early.

Sane is a symptom, Low is the problem. Sane could have helped, if the tactics were set up to support his playstyle. The problem is the team didn’t seem to have any real idea of what it was doing. You put Werner up top, a guy that likes to be played in against teams that were stacking the back. You put wings and mids with Werner that don’t have the pace to match him. Sane, Brandt, Draxler, all compliment Werner on the wing. I don’t think germany had one true counter the entire tournament.  No pace!

You pinch your wings in to play the 4-2-3-1 and bring your fullbacks up to play the width. That exposes your old ass midfield to counters. You are also playing wings like Muller that aren’t going to get box to box to be able to cut out the danger on counters. Outside of Khedira I think the selections were good, the problem was putting them together properly. It seems like they never trained together.

If they had brought their Confederations Cup Champion squad from last year, they would most likely have advanced out of the group.

They already have a winning team, they just didn’t bring it.

What’s sad is some of that was on the bench, Low was just too stubborn to give them the minutes. Mexico exposed that midfield trio, there was zero chance it was going to be any better against a fast and aggressive team like Korea. Goretzka should have played inside along with Gundogan with Rudy being hurt. Then you choose Ozil or Kroos to play with them. Brandt should have started on the wing where Goretzka was.

Gomez should have started over Werner every game.  They never had a target in the middle to play to or off of. Werner was too easy knock off the ball or mark out in the air.  Germany was stuck knocking the ball around the box trying to find a shot angle through 8 players the entire tournament. Just maddening.

Kroos with a legendary strike. He's the best player on the German side, and for Germany to do well, Kroos needs to be a big part of their system. This is one of the weakest German sides I've seen. There's not been a real leader on the pitch and certainly not a reliable closer in the tradition of Gerd Muller or Klose. Weak defensively. Then again, they lost three of the greatest Germans ever in Lahm, Schweini and Klose.

Brandt should start every match. Muller's invisibility and ineffectiveness is really hurting Germany.

Muller plays better off of a true number 9. Werner just doesn’t have the size to require the bracketing that gives Muller his spaces to poach from. I think it’s also why Germany is taking short corners. Gomez is old, but he can play hold-up and give the rest of the team better space to play through. Right now they are trying to dribble the ball into the net.

As good as Kroos is offensively, he’s a big part of why they are suffering defensively. The midfield is giving up those transition passes letting teams counter. The 4-2-3-1 is a really fun system to play but requires the midfield to be dominant because the fullbacks are always so high up the field. Germany's troubles are in the midfield.

  4. Crawfish ramen at Ramen Tatsuya is pretty fucking amazing. Assuming it’s a limited time thing while bugs are available. I could eat a bucket of those andouille dumplings.

The cat is way out of the bag on that, though.   It would help to cut the cord on the internet where they are bombarded with sexual content 24/7 to feed the obsession, and where they have outlets to anonymously commiserate with other bitter people and radicalize themselves. How do you actually do that, though?  Parents can make changes to how they monitor their kids, but you won’t really be able to keep them from accessing the net.

And, frankly, it would help if our entertainment programs weren’t so fixated on sex to where they make kids feel like people are losers with failed lives if they aren’t racking up large numbers of sexual partners at all times.  Not saying entertainment should be Puritan, but America is in this weird place now where sex is a much bigger cultural topic than it should be no matter what side of the fence you’re on.  One camp is too fixated on making it taboo, and the other camp goes too far the other way.  But either way it’s THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER here in a way that it’s just not in many other cultures.

Neither the availability of internet nor content of media will change, though, and maybe they shouldn’t.  Little shits who shoot up schools shouldn’t ruin freedom for the rest of us.

In Germany you start drinking beer at 16 and you see titties on broadcast TV and in print media regularly. Porn is just as available, and prostitution is legal. They also play the same video games we do. The one thing they don’t do is coddle children, they promote self-reliance and responsibility way earlier than we do.

Fuck that 5 minute bullshit, two fucking games in a row the refs add 5 minutes.

Then they add another minute on top.

Bayern got every opportunity to win with that ref.  No fucking crying from anyone about that matchup.

Refs usually add about 45 seconds for a sub. Think all six subs happened in the second half, so five minutes is fine. No clue how you’re equating that with a clear handball in the box.

Bayern looks like they don't have the horses to keep up. But go up 1-0 next leg and it's 0-0.

They limped into the game and lost two more players during it. Fucking Madrid, always have a horseshoe up their ass. We should have at least Alaba back for the second leg, but losing Robben with Coman still out royally fucks the game plan.
