  1. csb:

In the early 80's and going thru a divorce I discovered GPN...ran into him performing at a honkytonk in Ruidoso and also The Motherlode in Red River, both places after partaking more than few apres ski libations (thus the divorce inclusion). Good dude, knew many mutual people from my area of N TX. Very patient with inebriates.

    IMO his best vinyl:

Now for something completely different. I decided to treat myself for my birthday/Christmas. 2000 54 LP Custom reissue with the staple neck pup. Been looking for a while but I made a lowball offer and the guy accepted so what is a guy to do? I think I have a new house favorite.

    One with the stablemates.

The neck is somewhere between the baseball bat of the R6 and R8 and the fairly skinny profile of my 82 LP Custom. Fits like a glove. Haven’t done a lot of overdriven tones as I just got this evening and I don’t want to wake the neighbors. But it does clean real nice.

Now if I just had more time to play it.

    Damn!

Where I can tell a big difference between the cheap maple veneer tops and say the maple tops on the Les Pauls I currently or have owned is in the depth and movement of the flame.  With a badass maple top, it almost is like a hologram.  The flames move, shift and fade in/out in the top as your angle of perception and/or the angle of light changes.  These tops don't do that.  It's more static, so it is more like a photo-realistic snapshot of a badass flame maple top vs a badass flame maple top.  At least when you are holding the guitar in your hand and looking at it.

Hard to tell, is that a stainless barrel?
great looking rifle, beautiful wood and a death beam of a caliber.

Yes, stainless fluted. The stock is a synthetic McMillan molded to look like Walnut. Has a comfortable palm swell. Trigger is a Timney Elite. Sub minute with 92 grain Hammer Hunters at 3460 fps.

It was a beater we never drove.  He was helping us out by keeping it on the road.

One thing I'll never forget is when his wife called me to tell me about the accident, and she was apoplectic that the car was totaled.  I couldn't even speak.  Forget the car, it was nothing.  The fact it even concerned her really shook me, given the circumstances.

That situation and outcome reads horrifically tragic for everyone involved.

  6. Red works for me...stupid moment story. I asked my local luthier about retrofitting P90's on it. He thought I was kidding and laughed...so I laughed also. It's a great guitar...pick it up often and play unplugged.
