I need help on a rec for a pool robot that is worth a shit for my husband's birthday. Budget is ~$600, but I can spend more if convinced.
I don't follow this thread and my husband takes care of the pool. It turns green every year and acorns settle on the bottom. I want to help him and show him that I support him. He's not into trouble free pool because "reasons". It's 4' deep and 10'x40' (lap-style). Will this work or is there something more reliable out there?
Call the folks at Marina Pool and Spa. Best prices and warranty. they should be able to help.

I have. I’ll tell you about it sometime. But I’m tired right now.
Tell your story about being in a movie here!
I thought those movies went in a different thread…

As someone who is only watching this because a championship is on the line that kind of shit just makes me want to change the channel. What a joke.

sorry to ask, but did you get any help on this or left holding the bag?
so awful.
We are recouping some and coming out of pocket some. We shouldn’t have to but life is not fair. We have young kids and no neighborhood pool so it made the decision to rebuild easier.

Since they’re tearing it all out, is there anything you’re doing different this go around in terms of layout/design?
Kinda digging the splash pad w/ bubblers on one end, hot tub on the other, with the falls along the back length.
We are doing the same design but chasing some colors a bit.

Feel lucky we put a pool in back in 2014 in DFW before any of this was even a possibility. I don't think there is nearly the problem up here with concrete cancer that seems like there has been in CenTex but I have heard a few stories.
This was one of the professional photos our builder did. Luckily he has been a stand up guy during this process.

I just want to say that I have been trying to incorporate 'innit?' into my every day vocabulary. I'm not sure how it's going. I think my wife would probably say not well.
Well thats not surprising innit.

Looking at taking the family for a short trip in June. Wife and 3 daughters between 14-8. We are thinking of traveling in on a Thursday morning and spending Thursday afternoon and Friday at the park with an AIRBNB in Terilingua. Saturday morning heading over to Alpine and Ft. Davis (lodging suggestions?) with the Star Party that evening. Heading home Sunday after lunch.
Only have a short window so nothing too long. Thoughts? What parts of the park should we see during our window? Having younger girls we are thinking easier hikes. Appreciate any feedback y'all can give. Wife wants to see Santa Elena Canyon for sure.
Also, any experience carrying a handgun in the park? I’m planning to take a pistol given the remote nature of parts of the trip but not sure about inside the park.

Sorry you’re dealing with this and hope you’ve found some resolution. Went through the nightmare starting in ‘21 and new pool was finished this time last year. I just saw your one of the DMs I had…do hope you’ve got some light at the end of the tunnel.
We are at the tail end of negotiations with insurance companies. We will not be made whole but it should be enough to make rebuild feasible, which is sadly better than a lot of folks.
8 hours ago, Tailgate said:From my understanding…and I’ve talked to a lot of folks about this including engineers…the only affected pools were poured with shotcrete. There have been no known cases with gunite.
Gunite is less susceptible as I understand it but it can happen. It all has to do with the mix including size and type of aggregate material etc… our rebuild will be gunite from a company that works with an engineering firm to test their mix design for ASR reactivity. My pool builder setup a call with the company owner so I could ask questions to get comfortable that this would not happen again. It was a really good call.

I was in Iraq from October 2005-October 2006. I was in five engagements with the enemy including IEDs, small arms fire and mortars. I have been to Forward Operating Base Ramadi which was across the river and outside of the city itself but one of the grittiest FOBs I went to in Iraq as it was constantly under enemy contact and the optempo was higher than the other bases due to the enemy activity in the vicinity. My opinion is the accuracy is as close as you can get. The heightened senses at the beginning of the film as the tension is building along with the fog and friction in the aftermath of the explosions and the different reactions from all the team members captures the essence of combat. In addition the rules of engagement, radio communications and ‘joint’ teamwork were on full display. The film showed Navy Seals providing overwatch for Marines, Army 101st Airborne Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Air Force jets all operating together imperfectly but towards a common goal. 🇺🇸
Spent 6 months in both Iraq and Afghanistan providing air base security with the Air Force so no direct combat for me and will defer here for that first hand knowledge. While I was not in direct combat one thing that stuck with me after the deployments is just how much of it makes you say WTF was the point of all this (except of course the shared struggles of deployment with the brothers and sisters serving alongside you)? Sure there are major operations and missions such as killing Bin Laden and other HVTs but in between all that there is so much bullshit and unfortunately pain and suffering that only leaves you with more questions than answers. I think this movie did a good job illustrating that. At the end you just kind of ask WTF was all that for?

Is the solution to tear everything up and redo the entire pool?
Yes the only fix is rip out and rebuild.

Anyone know about pool cancer? We’ve never had any signs or symptoms. The pool was finished in early 2019. I don’t know who the concrete supplier was. We may be selling the property and a potential buyer wants to test the pool, despite it not having any symptoms. Opinions?
On 4/15/2025 at 12:50 PM, williemackgarza said:Is there really a scientific way for a lab to test the pool concrete mixture for the “cancer” ?? What will they rely on?
If their lab says it got the cancer do you have to disclose to other buyers even though the pool is fine as of now?
I assumed all the pool cancer issues would have developed by nowUnfortunately we are dealing with it now. Look for white lines (these are the cracks) visible in the pool. We noticed the first crack in the spa bench. The dark lines are all the cracks so far.
The only way to test is to have cores drilled out and sent to a lab for testing. We did not do that only because it’s obvious because of the visible damage.

Evo has $5 tickets on Tuesdays. Came out to 15 bucks for 2 tickets after fees for my daughter and I for next week. Right now Fandango is offering a $10 discount if you buy 2 or more tickets using Apple Pay with the code APPLEPAYTEN. Got our tickets for 5 bucks total. Will likely see it again in IMAX with my buddies if it is good.
