David Dennison is just being a troll at this point. He's pressing your buttons (the editorial). Once Hartzell drops his nutz on Dennison's face with a report that will bolster university efforts to have the Eyes of Texas remain the alma mater, he'll crawl back and be a CR shithead and we won't have to worry about his bullshit again.

Might be awkward too if the LHB decides they won't play it.
Then get a new band

Who ever the idiot is who keeps saying they're going to stop singing it after 1) they kept it the school song in the summer 2) they kept it the school song in the fall 3) they kept it the school song in the winter and 4)they kept it the school song after this most recent appearance in the news cycle is an idoit.

While we're figuring out the whole Eyes issue, did we ever discover if the Tower is a phallic representation o the patriarchy? I thought that was one of the accusations in that video that made the rounds.

Oregon tried to tell Sa'Vell Smalls that U-Dub was racist so he wouldn't go there. Luckily, he saw through it. That should show that anything goes on the recruiting trail. Pretty much anything.
It'll be used. Sark has to counter it. He will. We'll be fine. I will not stand for these brakes.

Thank you to the Port Arthur Longhorn bag crew, if you're reading this.

My standpoint on it is I think Pierce is a good coach and likable. I think he will do well.
But he has to do well with this roster, and if he doesn't, then he is worthy of scrutiny. Nothing personal but it is what it is with Texas baseball. The standards are higher on the east side of 35.

So, how are we feeling? Omaha or bust, no?
As high a standard that is, it kinda has to be.

Nothing.

There are a lot of great coaches available, but are there dynamic characters who are great coaches available? It isn't just X's and O's. It's keeping 150 people organized and focused on a goal. That's tough. Same with recruiting.
I don't think that's Campbell. I think he's a great coach but he's no dynamic character and I think it will limit what he's able to do as hypothetical Texas HC.
I don't think that character exists this go round, save Urban. I thought it was Herman.

It’s a song.
To you.
To many, it's not just a song.

I didn't know about its origin story. Also, from a personal standpoint, I wouldn't get rid of it. But I understand what's happening now and why its days are numbered.

I'll do my little part to shame the idiots who live to embarrass our university by going onto the Internet to spew hate and invective at our students. I can't stop them, but at least I can irritate them and maybe redirect their bile away from the players and band members and towards me.
Grown men crying at kids. Pathetic humans.
You're not respecting MY truth! You're not respecting MY lived experience!

Man you're proving me so wrong.
I'm going to give you a little bit of advice. I mean this very sincerely, and I think it'll improve everyone's experience on this site -- which I've learned recently must be respected because my experience is very important.
Shut the fuck up and go away.

It's pretty simple. The song has no racist meaning in itself, but if we're to say it's racist based on its origins, then I think it's fair to say the University of Texas is currently racist based on it's origins and past actions (as would be most universities). They don't seem to have a problem representing the university by being in the band. Just the song? It's interesting to me.
This country has a very short history, and a very racist one. Chances are anywhere you look you'll see something born out of it.

I still am waiting for an example of anyone who has ever sang the eyes of Texas at a UT event or otherwise with the intent of suppressing or sending a “fuck you” message to any person of color or in support of white supremacy.

That's good enough for me. I don't like how this becomes a negotiation between us and them. Why should I get to decide more than another citizen? An element of us didn't have a voice in many decisions that were make over the decades. I want UT to be inclusive.
Another thing, I hate forced traditions. Mack Brown created a lot of new fairly shallow traditions that the players seemed to execute by rote rather than with any emotion. If, one day, the players choose to run over and sing with the fans after a particularly emotional game, think how much more meaningful that would be than just something they do after every game as team policy.
The Eyes of Texas isn’t a forced tradition you dolt.

If they have some big shocking truth to expose go right ahead. At least specify whether it is the lyrics, the music, or both that they think needs to be rewriten and why.
You will get nothing more than “it’s racist” and you will have to accept it

We do enjoy unifying traditions that have never once been uttered, utilized, or celebrated for anything resembling racist intent, have nothing more than loose, tangential second-hand connections to a prominent southerner, and were a eye-grabbing throw-in among reasonable and honorable requests that the school has carried out.
Apparently, the LHB doesn't think the same.
