Sucks about Flores, it was my favorite spot in the Fort. I do like some Dayne's though. I saw that BBQ on the Brazos is doing work on the building. I also read that Smiley's Craft BBQ closed up their trailer and will be coming to the Fort Worth soon.

Smiley's is good but that odd location on 156 in Ponder is probably not enough traffic.  Had 407BBQ in Argyle last week.  I don't know who the hell voted them No. 1 in DFW but it's a slight step up from Dickey's.  The moist brisket was flavorless, the turkey was edible and the sausage was just OK.

  2. After spending a week in Colorado, I can picture myself somewhere between Denver and Colorado Springs or to the west of there (Fairplay). I have a realtor friend who is saying people are being priced out of Denver and are moving to northern Colorado Springs and commuting.  I-25 is a mess it beats I-35 here in DFW.  For a Texan, winter in Colorado can be brutal but it has so much to offer as far as outdoor.  Did I mention weed is legal?

The Widow starring the recruiting board's Kate Beckinsale and Tywin Lannister looks interesting.  Anyone watched yet?

I watched all 8 episodes and it was a beating to get thru.  Just not very well made and have plot lines that go nowhere.  Other than Kate being Kate,  not worth your time.

  4. So here's the plan on getting from Dallas to Boston.  We plan to spend at least a day or several in every city except Memphis since it's a shit hole.  Only stopping in Memphis for Gus's from the fried chicken thread.  Thinking of the Outer Banks from Charleston en route to D.C.  If so, any beach city worth mentioning or any other can't miss metropolis via I-95?  About 2,400 miles but it's about the journey.

Seriously considering heading west cross country to Olympic National Park from Boston.  I am planning two months for this dirt bagging trip.

Dallas, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Asheville, Savannah, Charleston, D.C, NYC, Boston

  5. Planning a long road trip from Texas to Portland, ME in Oct and in no particular rush.  Google maps shows going thru Memphis and Knoxville before hooking up with I-81 thru PA and west of NYC and then up to the northeast.

However, never been to Charleston, SC so might go that route and hit the eastern seaboard (DC, Philly, NYC) but I-95 is always a clusterfuck.  I assume I can take this route up and the above route back for a change of scenery.

Panther city BBQ is better than heim. Trailer/outdoor seating

Just had Panther City and it was phenomenal.  Better than Heims and probably on par with Pecan Lodge since I haven't had Cattleack to declare it best in DFW.  Half a pound of moist and the fat was perfectly rendered.  Will order a combo moist/lean next time.  $10 for half a pound which I believe is a little cheaper than the going rate of $11 to $12. The ribs were good but the sausage (both pepper and jap cheddar) was OK since it's not similar to central Texas...more like Eckrich if that makes any sense as far as casing.  The sauce was sweeter than I would have liked.  Got to the food truck at noon and waited no more than 10 minutes.  Beautiful weather to sit outside and eat.
