  1. Somewhat agree. Nix is first round reach and the only system he could plausibly succeed in Sean Payton’s offense. The Broncos mortgaging th farm to move up for Nix would be high comedy.

The Patriots drafting JJ at 3 and repeating the Mac Jones mistake would be awesome. I’m here for it.

I think Penix will be good. I know multiple knee surgeries, but the bionic man Taysom Hill is still in the league.

I think Penix is the best “pure passer” of all the top 6 QBs mentioned. His previous injuries were prior to the previous two seasons, which both happened to end our FB season.

  2. The plan is to have games in hand by midway through the 3rd quarter, so Arch will get plenty of snaps. You’re overthinking this.

If it’s “out of hand,” is he really playing with the 1’s? Only talking one series. Could be 3-out, TD, FG, INT, fumble or punt.

Playing meaningful snaps with the 1’s vs the opponents’ 1’s isn’t seen at practice, especially in a “hostile” environment.

  3. This is a stupid idea.  Get your starter in a groove and leave him in until the game is decided without question.  Telling Quinn to go get a hot dog from the concession stand at the end of the first quarter and sit for series is beyond stupid.
As to Gilbert, they were trying to redshirt him.  He burned his RS to play in the NC game.

Yes - and GG had ZERO “meaningful” snaps prior to the Rose Bowl! I’ve seen this implemented at the CFB level and I know a couple instances where they were glad to have an experienced back up! Enough said, I digress.

I of all Horn fans want Quinn to win it all, but I’d like to also a back up to have live reps, with the 1’s, besides at practice.

  4. We’re talking one pre-planned series. Games aren’t won or lost on one offensive series. But just letting him hand off to the 4th RB and then taking a knee to kill the clock is NOT “experience.”

  5. It’s not that Quinn isn’t the QB1, but he’s one “Dallas Turner” sack from being out maybe 2-3 weeks. We all know it’s happened before.

All I can relate to my example is Mack NOT having an experienced Gilbert in the ‘09 Rose Bowl and for the National Championship! I’m not trying to create a QB1 vs QB2 controversy, but just giving Arch the last waning minutes of a game doesn’t give him experience.

I’ve seen this implemented over the decades and multiple teams were glad they had an “experienced” back up when called upon, especially if QB1 has an injury that might last weeks or the rest of the season.

  6. People that laughed at my plan of implementing Arch into the 3rd series of the 1st made a mockery of my idea. That solution of “getting him into the game with the 1’s” has been implemented by other teams over the decades, as a strong way to have your back-up “ready” if needed. Quinn is the starter and will return the next series, regardless of Arch’s drive/outcome.

All I’ve heard on SXM and the internet today, is that Arch should transfer immediately to a team needing a real QB1. Giving him guaranteed playing time, even with his own scripted plays/series would settle this decision. It’s just to get experience with the 1’s and not just mop up duty at the end of a blow out!

I guarantee he and his group are getting offers as we speak!

  7. If I was Sark I’d gather the offense staff, Quinn, and Arch together at the beginning of Fall camp and explain this coaching decision. This would be the plan going into each game and the players will then know it, as well as expect it.

Every third possession of the 1st Qtr, Arch is going into the game with the 1’s, unless the opponent just pinned us deep, like within the 5, then it would be the next possession, regardless of the score: up, down, or tied.

Quinn would then go back into the game, as he is the starter, even if Arch just led the team down the field for a TD, FG, or nothing. It’s all just a plan to have a more “active / utilized” backup.

I would even do the second possession of the 2H, with the same already being planned before hand. Waiting on the waning minutes of and out of hand game doesn’t give him game experience, especially just handing off, throwing short routes, and taking a knee. And nobody wants to see Quinn get hurt in order to finally see Arch get meaningful snaps with the 1’s.

I bet Mack wished he had an “experienced GG” in the ‘09 Rose Bowl.

  8. He means "I'm going to say something stupid and untrue to trigger the Longhorn fans and generate more clicks/views".

I mean NOBODY roots for aggy outside of B/CS and greater Houston/SE Texas. That is their geographical sphere of influence. Their Fng brand doesn’t cross regional boundaries, unless a few aggy grads escaped.

  9. I went to a HS math tournament in Auburn back in 1979 (I was at Spencer HS in Columbus, GA). Gave me a sense of familiarity watching the 1983 UT-Auburn game on a 19” screen in ‘84. My only memory of that game was Jerry Gray stretching out to make an interception on the right sideline that was a better catch than any Longhorn has made in the last five years. Bo Jackson was just becoming a “thing”, so him doing fuck-all never really registered.

I was at that game and as a youth my Dad would purchase a pennant for every opponent Texas played so I could hang it in my room. This game’s opponent had “War Eagle” on it, so I asked my Dad why, as they were the Tigers? All he said that day was that it was a long story and just watch the game vs Bo Jackson!

  10. Damn dog made me hit submit!

Anyways, I shot up that OJ doll from my tree fort with my first .22 rifle around ‘79. Damn I wish I still had that thing, as well as the Staubach doll to this day.

  11. I had an OJ “ football doll/toy” and a Staubach when I was a youth. Similar to a GI Joe sized doll/toy during the early’70s.

Later on into my youth, I shot the OJ doll with

  12. I think this is the most excited that I’ve been for a Spring game in over a decade. Tools for both QBs to pass to, as well as the deep RB group have me excited. Can the Defense contain them? We’ll all see a small “image/picture” of the future next weekend.

  13. I lived in Lake Charles from the late ‘90s to ‘08. LSU fans galore there too. I never saw an “SEC” sticker on a vehicle in all my travels from there East to Florida for business/vacation.

It wasn’t until aggy joined that the “SEC” emblem on a vehicle was created -IMO. Prior to them (aggy) most LSU fans I knew was - if it wasn’t “us” then F the rest. Local/surrounding conference mates’ success just might hurt future recruiting, regardless of the sport.

I was stationed in S. Korea during the age of “Starter” jacket knockoffs - early ‘90s. Things haven’t changed! Wow man, “these are so much cheaper than stateside!”

I had one that was white with burnt Orange/black trim from those days. Loved that knock-off jacket.

  15. Jordan Spieth just committed to play in next weeks Valero Texas Open. Very solid field this year.

Other notable commitments: McIlroy, Conners (2x winner of VTO), Fitzpatrick, Fleetwood, Fowler, Harman, Homa, Morikawa, Ludwig Aberg, Matsuyama, and Adam Scott. Players have until 3/29 to commit.

  16. That Mettauer QB is graduating so I guess Quanell didn’t have faith in the replacement for next year. I don’t know if North Shore was the right move though as they aren’t really ones to sling it around a ton.

They all “sling it around”, so the move is definitely in question.
