  1. The supers are just like … right over there.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there some arcane rule that says you automatically advance to the supers if you score double digits in your first two games?

You hardcore college baseball guys can confirm that rule, right?

  2. Idk. Blue appears to have such huge upside potential that it’s painful to think that that upside could be missed at Texas.

I’ve followed recruiting since 1968 and I don’t *think* I’ve ever heard of a healthy HS player foregoing his senior year to “protect his body”.

We’ve seen guys transfer to other schools for a myriad of reasons, some legitimate, some questionable, but sit out your senior season to “protect the body”? When healthy? In high school? Huh?

What about trying to win a HS championship? How many of us tried like hell to win a HS championship back in the day? Is that not a big deal anymore? I mean, it sure is a big deal.

Somebody mentioned Evans. While no one wants an Evans / Pirrallieu situation, is the evidence there to suggest that is the situation with Blue? What’s this track meet incident about?

As others suggest, I also do not envy Sark & Staff right now. Thus develops the odd case of young Mr. Jaydon Blue.

  3. Living up here in Abilene, let’s take out ACU today. Sweep’um out.

I’m starting to get revved over the club this year.

i would love it if the men and Pierce get Texas back to baseball dominance because I’ve got way too many TT prks to deal with up here (although Beard doled out a cram down of shock and awe in the psyche my TT colleagues on April 1, lol).

Why the big difference in ranking between ESPN and the coach’s poll?

  4. Bears’s a beast.

The most important day is today.

We’re gonna recruit the best players in the world.

    Beard’s not messing around.

There’s an urgency to win now.

We’re going to play to win a NC now.

I’ve heard the introductory talks from many a Texas coach over the years. Two of my favorites were Fred Akers and Mack Brown.

Chris Beard is by far the most inspiring. The gravamen is to win a NC now. Not when the new stadium’s built. Not some year down the road. Not when coach gets his own guys in here.

    Dazzling. Oh my, lol.

    Get it done, Coach Beard.

No wonder my TT friends are stricken.

  5. It is interesting that a near universally recognized blueblood football school - Southern Cal - has so publicly disseminated its concerns - and in a way that tends to destabilize the PAC.

It might even eclipse Boren's "wallflower" comment from the days of yore, lol.

    8/10 schools agreeing to dissolve?

I think the relevant contract says 75% of the membership must vote to dissolve, so, in a 10-school league (versus the original 12), I think one can safely assume that 8 votes is the requirement today for dissolution.

It's been several years since I read the GOR and league contracts, but the information posted above by ButtFumble comports with my recollection, FWIW.

I vividly remember strong tampering provisions in the GOR, especially as same apply to member schools.

Still, as June 2025 approaches, the tampering provisions will become increasingly irrelevant.

    Why? Waiver.

If the GOR does not become renegotiated in the 2023 to early 2025 timeframe, then there will be significant discussion about "what's the holdup?".

If the B12 renegotiates early, then Texas and Oklahoma almost certainly will have elected to stay in the B12 and try to make it reasonably financially competitive with the B1G and the SEC.

If B12 GOR negotiations drag into 2024, then into 2025, I feel reasonably certain that waiver will arise.

The tampering provisions will eventually become moot because it will be the bottom 8 schools - not necessarily Texas or Oklahoma - that will waive the tampering clause.

If there's no GOR renegotiation, it will be the TCUs, the ISUs, and this group of school admins that will be sweating it, publicly speculating about it, and thereby waiving the tampering clause, not Texas or Oklahoma.

We will know what's going on, no doubt, one way or another,  in the next few years.

We will also have the advantage of analyzing the B1G contract in 2023 and the PAC contract in 2024, which may contain interesting provisions about escalators, in the case of the B1G, and escape clauses, in the case of the PAC. So, there will external contextual information, too.

  7. This discussion of USC to the B12 reminds me of the B12 courting ND before ND affiliated with the ACC.

My guess is that if USC goes anywhere out of the PAC, USC will go to a stable league, which the B12 certainly is not.

If it leaves the PAC, my guess is USC will probably pull other PAC members and go B1G, IMO. To me, this is self-evident.

The B1G and the SEC are the only harbors of safety. The B12, not so much.

Well, we slid back to 4A, somehow managed to slip past Cody Danaher’s Callahan and a loaded A&M consolidated team, then lost to Hutchins only good team ever in Waco on a day where the temps were in the teens.

    also, I’m old.

    Not really, lol.

  9. I have to admit, this old man is pumped after kicking the dog out of Utah. And we did kick their butt, lol. A true, old-fashioned woodshed spanking.

Now that the 7-5 funk is lifted, am I correct in assuming that it's Collins and Princely that is our 2020 end-game targets, pretty much?

And maybe a couple of possible transfers? An OL and a DL, is it?

Anyhow, if someone wouldn't mind refocusing my brain, I'd be much obliged. And no, you can't pork my mother either, lol.

Okay, I'm back to following recruiting. Which high school seniors are we looking at for the remaining slots? I assume we hit a lull in recruiting as Carrington helped hold the class together. The new staff may have a different wish list yet most of the top guys have already used up all of their official visits.

Collins is a big target, probably the biggest.

Where are they going to go?  Not PAC or ACC.  The PAC is a fucking dumpster fire of a joke, and the ACC, without Clemson, would be just as bad.  Both are a pain in the ass for OU fans to travel to away games.

Why would they make their playoff chances harder in the Big 10 or SEC?  Right now, short of losing the B12 championship, they are in with a loss, even a conference loss.  They catch a conference loss in the Big 10 or SEC, and they might not even make the conference championship, which means no CFP.

And, being related to, and knowing quite a few, OU fans and alumni, I know for a fact none of them want to be in a conference where they wouldn't be a top dog.  That rules out the SEC and B10 as well - OU, just like Texas, wouldn't be able to roll into the SEC or B10 and start throwing their weight around.  OU could have went to another conference before the Big 12, but they didn't.

SEC was an easy choice for a school like aggy, who is used to being treated like the mid- or bottom-tier team that they are.    Aggy wasn't a threat to recruiting of any SEC members as well - OU would easily be blocked by Arky, aggy, Missouri, maybe LSU (and it only takes 4) because OU would be a threat to those schools recruiting-wise (And not just them).

The money will be there - Amazon and Apple, one of them will probably make it interesting.  And OU will have a HUGE say in how a GOR plays out, unlike if OU ran off to the SEC or B10.

And we haven't even touched on the whole OU/OSU thing.

I think if Oklahoma perceives they can win more NCs in the B12, then that would be the reason they would renew the B12 GOR.

But Oklahoma also needs the money the SEC or the B1G would generate for them.

Money (leave)? Or playoffs (stay put)?

Consider an expanded playoff where coming in second, or even third, in a conference doesn't necessarily preclude the playoffs.

Or consider the idea of a larger B1G and/or SEC with both a finals championship game, but also a semi-final championship game.

With a semi-final game integrated into a larger playoff scheme, the ability of all conference schools to rate the playoff scheme expands dramatically.

A 4-school playoff won't be around forever, IMO.

If this thinking is correct, then a school like OU takes the quick money of the B1G or SEC and waits for the expanded playoff scheme, whatever scheme that may be.

    OU gone.

I would be shocked if OU signed another GOR.  If they leave, all bets are off.  I just hope Texas can separate from baylor.

We are of like mind re OU.

The prize if OU wanders is Texas. OU would simply be the excuse for a big dog conference to snare the big dog school - Texas.

So, which conference wants Texas the most?

The B1G? The SEC? Some other conference?

We know the SEC would take OU, no questions asked, right?

Would the B1G take OU? Would the B1G take OU if taking OU meant Texas followed?

Would Texas stay B12 if OU left? Will OU opt out of the B12 GOR at all come renewal time?

Would Texas go SEC if OU went SEC because of B1G dalliance?

The answers to these questions arise in the relatively near future.

Oklahoma is the catalyst and Texas is the prey, lol.

  13. The PAC is not the answer on so many levels for so many reasons.

But the day of reckoning is approaching. We're already seeing recruiting threads for 2022 initiated.

While the GOR doesn't expire until 6-2024, I think it is, the GOR would probably be extended, if it's going to be extended, in 2022 or 23.

I think our friends North of the Red hold the keys. JMO.

  14. I see I have sicced the surley wolfpack on myself.

Look boys, as much as we all would love to see Jaylen Garth make a swift and thorough recovery, Elmer Fudd is most likely correct.

To remind the hater wolfpack, Garth tweaked his knee first back in 2018, missing some games.

Then, this year, back in August, Garth tweaked it again, and he missed games early this year, too, as I recall.

Now ... this. This time we're not talking tweak.

Hopefully, Garth's knee is rebuilt and it heals so doggone quickly he starts the opener and for four straight years thereafter.

But the probabilities suggest otherwise. The probabilities suggest RR&R, and get him ready for 2021 - which isn't a bad thing.

I don't understand why my earlier comment has generated such universal derision and hatred.

I've been posting in Texas boards since Al Gore invented the internet, I think I'm okay at it, and I think the naysayers ought to undo their ... imprecise voting, lol.

Yeah with the way our OL room is now it'd probably be his RS Soph year before he saw the field so he's got nearly 3 years of recovery time.  Hopefully he's good to go in the 2021 winter offseason.

    Yup.

Bowl shouldn’t have much, if any impact in this year’s class.

If Texas wins, I hope you're wrong.

If Texas loses, I hope you're right, lol.

But you're probably right because it appears coaching changes are coming and those changes will probably dwarf the bowl as talking points.

When Herman tinkers with the staff, let's hope the timing is perfect and the hires are good.

Carrington has to do his mojo, lol, because, really, we need Collins, too.
